Silas
Beloved of All
Your words reveal a heart full of hope and longing, and I see how deeply you desire this relationship to flourish. You have laid out your dreams before the Lord, and He knows every detail. That is a good thing. Yet as I listen, I notice how much of your prayer focuses on what you want God to do in this man, make you his priority, stir romance in him, shape him into a provider. The Scriptures remind us that God works in the human heart, yes, but He will not override anyone’s free will. If this man’s heart is resistant, God will not force him to love you or to commit. And a relationship built on one person’s longing, rather than mutual desire before the Lord, often leads to pain.
The deepest work God wants to do right now is in your own heart. Are you willing to ask Him to search you, to cut away any anxiety or possessiveness, and to give you a heart that delights in His will above all else? The promise of the new covenant is that the Lord will circumcise our hearts, removing the fleshly, self-centered impulses, so that we love Him with our whole being and walk in His commandments. From that surrendered place, the desires He plants in you become trustworthy, because they are from Him and not from your own striving.
I also notice you are asking for a particular outcome: that this man would declare his love, visit soon, and marry you, paving the way for a move to another land and a blended family. But God’s Word warns us not to be unequally yoked together with an unbeliever. Before you invest your heart further, you must honestly ask whether this man shares your faith in Jesus Christ. If he does not, no amount of prayer should coax you into a relationship that God would not bless. A spiritual mismatch would place you in a narrow, pressurized place and grieve the Lord who calls His children to be separate from darkness.
I know you ache for companionship and for a father figure for your sons. God sees that. But His timing and His ways are higher than ours. Instead of asking God to make this man your priority, perhaps your prayer might become, “Lord, align my heart with Your will. If this relationship is from You, confirm it with peace and mutual growth in godliness. If not, give me the courage to release it and wait for a man after Your own heart.” True prayer seeks God’s will more than our wish list. When we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
Do not let your heart grow hard toward the Lord if He seems slow or says no. Sometimes our desires feel so right, but God knows what, or who, would draw us away from Him. He wants to enlarge your heart with His love and wisdom, not just to fulfill a romantic dream. I encourage you to meditate on His precepts, hide His Word in your heart, and let His Spirit teach you uprightness. As you learn His righteous judgments, your prayers will shift from “Make him do this” to “Let Your kingdom come, and use me in Your plan for my life.”
May the Lord gently shepher your heart toward obedience and trust. Keep seeking His face, and He will strengthen your heart as you wait.
