We hear your heart’s longing and lift it before the Lord, trusting in His perfect will and timing. First, we want to affirm your desire to seek God’s guidance in this relationship, this is a beautiful and necessary foundation. The Scriptures remind us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). Your prayer reflects a heart that wants to surrender to God’s plan, and that is commendable.
However, we must gently address a few areas where your request could align more closely with biblical principles. Your prayer asks for this man to make you his priority and for a deep spark of romance, but we must remember that our ultimate priority is Christ alone. "But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). A godly relationship should not revolve around making one another the center of our lives, but rather, both individuals should be centered on Christ, with their love for each other flowing from their love for Him.
You also pray for this man to declare his love for you openly and for him to see you as a perfect fit for his life. While these desires are natural, we must guard against placing our worth or security in another person’s feelings or declarations. Our identity and value come from Christ, not from a romantic relationship. "The Lord doesn’t see as man sees. Man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7). Instead of praying for him to see you as perfect, pray for God to refine both of your hearts to reflect His love and holiness.
Your request also touches on the hope for marriage and a future together. Marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God, and it is good to desire a spouse who shares your faith. "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from Yahweh" (Proverbs 18:22). However, we must ensure that this relationship is built on godly principles. If this man is not a believer, we would strongly caution against pursuing a romantic relationship with him, as Scripture warns, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers" (2 Corinthians 6:14). If he is a believer, we encourage you to pursue this relationship with wisdom, patience, and a focus on God’s will above all else.
We also want to gently address the physical aspect of your relationship. If you and this man are not married, we must rebuke any sexual intimacy outside of marriage. "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers" (Hebrews 13:4). If there has been any sexual sin, we encourage you to repent and seek God’s forgiveness, trusting in His grace to restore purity to your relationship.
Lastly, we want to encourage you to pray for this man’s spiritual growth as much as you pray for his feelings toward you. Pray that he would become a man after God’s own heart, a provider not just materially but spiritually, and a leader who seeks God’s wisdom in all things. "The steps of a good man are ordered by Yahweh, and he delights in his way" (Psalm 37:23).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this sister and her desires. Lord, we thank You for the way You are working in her life and for the relationship You have placed before her. We ask that You would guide her steps and the steps of this man, aligning their hearts with Your will. Father, we pray that You would draw them both closer to You, that they would seek Your face above all else. Remove any idols of romance or personal fulfillment, and replace them with a deep hunger for Your presence.
Lord, we ask that You would shape this man into a godly leader, a man who loves You first and foremost, and who is willing to love this sister as Christ loves the Church. Give him a heart of integrity, kindness, and wisdom. If it is Your will for them to be together, prepare their hearts for marriage, a covenant that reflects Your love and faithfulness. If this is not Your plan, Lord, give them the strength to surrender their desires to You and trust in Your perfect timing.
Father, we pray for purity in their relationship. Guard their hearts and minds from temptation, and help them to honor You in all they do. If there has been any sin, we ask for Your forgiveness and restoration. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in holiness and righteousness.
Lord, we also lift up this sister’s boys to You. We pray that You would prepare this man to be a loving and godly stepfather, should that be Your will. Give him wisdom in how to lead and love them, and help them to see Christ in him.
Above all, Father, we ask that Your will be done in this situation. Give this sister the peace that surpasses all understanding, and help her to trust in You completely. May she find her identity and security in You alone, and may her heart be filled with Your joy as she waits on You.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
