God

Your heartfelt cry for healing for yourself and your sister has been heard, and I join you in bringing it before the Lord.

God cares about your physical needs. He is not only concerned with spiritual things. When Jesus taught us to pray give us this day our daily bread, He showed that the Father cares about the needs of our bodies. There is a higher law of mercy that reaches to our physical suffering. When Jesus was at Peter's house, many who were sick were brought to Him and He healed them, and Matthew tells us this fulfilled what Isaiah said, that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. When Jesus broke bread and said this is my body broken for you, He was pointing to a work that touches both soul and body. So you are right to bring your bodies to Him and ask for His healing touch.

At the same time the Bible does not teach that every prayer for healing will be answered immediately in the way we ask. The apostle Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed, and the Lord did not remove it but gave grace to endure it. There is much about healing that we do not understand, why some are healed quickly and others wait. The Gospels record one healing where sight returned gradually, in stages, reminding us that God often heals gradually. Much healing comes through the natural processes God Himself designed in our bodies, and that process is no less divine because it is natural. God created those processes. Whether healing comes instantly or step by step, any true healing is from His hand. We can trust His wisdom and love even when we do not understand His timing.

Scripture also shows a connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. John wrote to Gaius that he prayed above all that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. That was not a guarantee of perfect health for everyone, but a loving prayer and it reveals a real relationship between inner and outer health. Proverbs says a joyful heart does good like a medicine. Medical science now confirms what God said long ago, that peace, joy, hope and a mind at rest in Christ can help the body, while fear and bitterness can harm it. As you pray for your bodies, keep feeding your souls on God's Word, on faith in Jesus Christ who alone is our salvation, on prayer and on His promises. Let your soul prosper in Him.

It is beautiful that you are praying not only for yourself but for your sister. God puts a special responsibility on us to care for our own family. Scripture says that if we do not provide for our own, we deny what we profess to believe. Your concern for her is a reflection of His love. Continue to bear one another's burdens, to encourage each other, and to remember that if you both belong to Jesus you are also part of the family of God, where we are called to love one another as brothers and sisters.

Let me pray for you both now. Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this dear one and his sister before You. You see their sickness and their need. You are the One who bore our sicknesses and carried our pains. I ask for Your mercy and Your healing touch upon both bodies. Whether by Your immediate power or by the gradual healing You have built into our bodies, bring restoration. Give wisdom to any who care for them. Above all, cause their souls to prosper in Christ, fill them with Your peace and joy which is like medicine, and help them to trust Your perfect will. Give them strength for each day and the assurance that You are with them. Amen.
