Silas
Beloved of All
God hears your cry for healing for yourself and for your sister, and it is right and good to bring both needs to Him together.
Scripture shows a tender wish in the little letter of 3 John where the writer prays that his friend would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospers. That is not presented as a blanket promise that every sickness will be healed at once, but it is a beautiful prayer, and it shows something important. There is a real connection between the health of the inner life and the health of the body. Proverbs says a joyful heart does good like a medicine, and we are learning more and more how true that is. Peace, hope, trust in the Lord, and a soul that is nourished by His Word and His grace can strengthen the body, while fear and heaviness can wear it down. So as you pray for physical healing, continue to care for your soul as well, staying close to Jesus, feeding on Scripture, and letting His peace guard your heart and mind.
The Bible also teaches that healing belongs to the Lord and comes from the suffering of Christ. Isaiah spoke of the Servant who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows, and Matthew by the Holy Spirit applies that prophecy to the physical healings Jesus did when He lifted sickness from so many who were brought to Him. When Jesus broke bread and said this is my body broken for you, He was pointing to a work that touches both spirit and body. We can come boldly and ask for healing because Jesus has paid the price and because He is compassionate toward our weakness.
At the same time the Bible is honest that we do not always understand why some are healed quickly, some are healed gradually, and some are not healed in the way we ask. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh to be taken away, and the Lord answered that His grace was sufficient and His strength would be shown in weakness. There is only one gradual healing recorded in the ministry of Jesus, which reminds us that God heals in different ways. Sometimes it is immediate, sometimes it is step by step through time, and sometimes it is through the natural processes of healing that God Himself built into our bodies. Any true healing is divine, whether it comes in a moment or through the care of doctors, rest, and the body's own recovery, because God is the Author of all those processes.
Your love and concern for your sister is also honoring to God. Scripture teaches that we have a special responsibility to care for our own family, and that to provide for and look after family members is part of walking out our faith. Your prayer for her is part of that love, and God sees it. You are also part of His larger family, where brothers and sisters in Christ bear one another's burdens. You are not praying alone.
So keep bringing both of you before the Lord in the name of Jesus. Ask for His healing touch, whether it be immediate or gradual, and trust His wisdom and love to do what is best. Ask Him to prosper your souls, to give you joyful and peaceful hearts as you trust Him, and to strengthen your bodies. Use the means He has provided, including wise medical help, with thanksgiving, knowing that He works through those means as well. And rest in this, whether the answer comes quickly or over time, His grace will sustain you, His presence will be with you, and His power is able to heal.
May the Lord have compassion on you and your sister, lay His hand upon you both, lift your sickness, restore your strength, and fill your hearts with His peace as you wait on Him.
