God has mercy, forgives me, and saves me...

Beloved of All
I have sinned again with pornography and masturbation. This has happened countless times now. I can't go on like this. Let us pray that God has mercy, forgives me, and saves me...

We hear your cry and we join you before the throne of grace, for we know the weight and shame that comes with this struggle and we do not take it lightly. You have honestly confessed that you have sinned again with pornography and masturbation and that this has happened countless times, and that honesty is where healing begins. We want to speak the truth to you in love because we care for your soul.

The Word of God is clear that pornography and masturbation are not harmless habits but sexual immorality rooted in lust. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. We are also taught in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. And in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 we are reminded that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in us, whom we have from God, and we are not our own, for we were bought with a price, therefore we are to glorify God in our body. God created sexual intimacy to be enjoyed within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and any sexual activity outside of that, including lustful fantasy and self gratification, falls short of His holy design and must be repented of.

We also notice that your request asks for God to have mercy and to forgive and save you, yet you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We gently and urgently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we can be saved. As it is written in Acts 4:12 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. And Jesus Himself said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. If we confess our sins to God without coming through the shed blood of Jesus, we have no atonement. The good news is that if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved as written in Romans 10:9. God demonstrates His mercy not by overlooking sin but by providing His Son to bear the penalty for it, so that when we turn from sin and put our faith in Jesus, we are truly forgiven and made new.

There is mercy for you, even after countless falls, but that mercy calls us to repentance and not to remain in the pattern. As it is written in 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And in Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. We must not continue in sin that grace may abound, as written in Romans 6:1-2, but we are to walk by the Spirit so that we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh as written in Galatians 5:16. God is faithful and in 1 Corinthians 10:13 we are promised that no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this dear soul who is weary from falling again and again into pornography and masturbation. Lord, have mercy according to Your steadfast love. We ask that You forgive through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross and cleanse from all unrighteousness. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him as written in Psalm 51:10. Break the chains of lust and shame that have bound him, and set him free to walk in purity. Help him to hate what You hate and to love what You love. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may have power to flee youthful lusts as written in 2 Timothy 2:22 and to make no provision for the flesh. Teach him to hide Your word in his heart that he might not sin against You as written in Psalm 119:11. Give him courage to bring this struggle into the light, to confess to a trusted mature believing brother or pastor and to seek godly accountability as written in James 5:16, so that he may be healed. Guard his eyes and his mind, help him to remove every source of temptation from his home and his devices, and to fix his thoughts on whatever is true, pure and honorable. Draw him close to Jesus, that he would know beyond doubt that he is forgiven, saved, and being transformed by Your grace. When temptation comes again, show him the way of escape and give him strength to take it. We ask that You restore his joy and give him hope to go on in newness of life, living to glorify You in body and spirit. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.

We encourage you, do not remain isolated in this battle. Bring this into the light with a faithful pastor or mature Christian brother who can walk with you, pray with you, and hold you accountable. Remove access to pornography completely, install filters, keep devices in open areas, and flee the moment temptation begins rather than reasoning with it. Feed your mind daily with Scripture, memorize Psalm 119:9 and Romans 12:2, and replace idle time with prayer, work, fellowship, and service. Remember that God does not define you by your falls when you are in Christ, but He does call you to forsake them. He is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless. Take heart and turn fully to Jesus today, trusting not in your own resolve but in His finished work and His power to make you new.

We hear the weight in your words, the exhaustion of trying again and again and feeling like you are back in the same place. Thank you for being honest about it. That honesty matters, even when shame makes you want to hide.

We want you to know God's mercy is not used up by repeated failure. Through Jesus there is forgiveness when we turn to Him with a sincere heart, and He meets us not with contempt but with grace that also helps us take the next step.

When this pattern has happened countless times, trying harder alone rarely breaks it. What helps most people is bringing it into the light with another person. One practical step to consider is inviting one trusted, mature Christian, a pastor or a Christian counselor, to walk with you in regular, honest accountability, and looking into a small support group specifically for this struggle. Having a consistent place to be truthful, encouraged and prayed for makes it much harder to stay isolated.

If this has felt out of control for a long time, it can also help to talk with a counselor or pastor who has experience in this area to explore what is underneath the urge and to get ongoing support.

Father, we lift our brother to You. Have mercy, forgive and draw him close through Jesus. Give him courage to reach out, strength for each day and hope that You are still at work in him. Lead him toward freedom and wholeness in Your way. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your cry for mercy has been heard, and it is a hopeful sign that you are weary of sin and desire to be free from it. To feel that you cannot go on like this, to tremble and with a penitent heart desire forgiveness, is not to be despised, for it shows that your conscience is not yet hardened and that you still know the evil of sin before a holy God.

Hear the word which God Himself has given for such a case as yours, There is forgiveness with Him. This is not a forgiveness from man, nor a partial pardon, but a divine forgiveness, I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a surprising forgiveness, so great that God speaks as if to assure us that even such sins can be remitted, and it is a complete forgiveness, an absolute blotting out of the debt for all who put their trust in Christ. However sinful your life may have been up until now, however many times you have fallen, there is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ His Son, who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. At this moment there is forgiveness, and it is to be found only in Him, for salvation is through Jesus Christ alone.

Yet Scripture teaches us to weigh our repentance with great care. There is a carnal repentance which is of the flesh, a fallen nature washed and brushed but still fallen, where the heart is not renewed and the life is not regenerated. Such repentance gives no glory to God and leads to no saving and lasting deliverance from sin. True repentance is the work of the Spirit of God. It gives God glory, it makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His finished work. Faith and repentance are inseparable. The repentance which ejects sin as an evil tenant and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart go together. A right repentance makes us weep and abhor our past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it makes us avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for us. It leads us to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only.

You confess pornography and masturbation, and you do well to call it sin, for it is. God in His wisdom has ordained that sex belongs within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and all that seeks its pleasure outside that holy bounds is a turning aside from His good design. To be saved is not to have that sin blessed or excused, but to be forgiven and delivered from it. Do not despair because you have fallen countless times. The same God who forgave at the first continues daily to forgive those who come to Him through Christ, and His forgiveness is an eternal forgiveness. But seek not only pardon, seek renewal. Ask the Lord not only to forgive the act but to change the heart, to purge the soul from dead works and to fill it with living works.

Therefore come now, just as you are, to the Lord Jesus. Do not spread your griefs to the pitiless sea, but bring them to Him whose ear is open. Acknowledge your indebtedness, confess that you have nothing to pay with, and trust in His blood and righteousness alone. Pray that He would grant you that holy, healthy, heavenly repentance which needs not to be repented of, and that He would keep you from the places and habits that lead you back into bondage. Flee from that which tempts you, seek the help of faithful pastors and brothers who will walk with you, and let the Word of God dwell richly in you.

Let us pray for you now. O Lord, have mercy upon this soul who confesses his sin and is weary of it. For Christ's sake forgive him, blot out his transgressions, and remember his sins no more. Save him by Thy grace, renew his heart by Thy Holy Spirit, grant him true repentance and living faith, and deliver him from the power of this sin. Give him strength to flee impurity and to walk in purity before Thee, and let him know the joy of full and free forgiveness with Thee. Keep him from despair, lift him up by Thy power, and make his life to show forth Thy glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

There is forgiveness. Do not let the whisper of despair drive you away from Him with whom forgiveness is found. Turn to Him again, and you shall find that He is gracious and ready to save.

Falling back into the same pattern when you're trying so hard to stop is its own kind of pain. There's a short spoken prayer called the Addiction Clearing Prayer on the One Prayer at a Time YouTube channel, a few calm minutes prayed over loosening addiction's hold, if you'd like something quiet to listen to. I hope you find your way free.
