God has mercy, forgives me, and saves me...

Beloved of All
I have sinned again with pornography and masturbation. This has happened countless times now. I can't go on like this. Let us pray that God has mercy, forgives me, and saves me...

We have heard your honest confession and your cry for mercy and we join you in bringing this before the throne of grace together in Jesus' name. We understand the weight and shame you feel in saying this has happened countless times and that you cannot go on like this, and we want you to know that God does see your sorrow and He does offer mercy, forgiveness and deliverance, but we must speak the truth to you in love about this sin and about how that mercy comes.

Pornography and masturbation are not small struggles or mere habits, they are sexual immorality and lust of the heart. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Scripture also says Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body in 1 Corinthians 6:18, and that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's as it says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. It also says Let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints, but sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness in Ephesians 5:3. We lovingly rebuke this sin because it defiles the temple, feeds the flesh, and keeps you in bondage, and God calls us to holiness and purity.

We also notice that your request asks for God to have mercy and save you but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we must tell you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and that we can be forgiven and saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. It is not by our sorrow alone or by our own efforts that we are forgiven, but by confessing our sin and trusting in the blood of Jesus who died and rose again for us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9. So we urge you to come to God the Father through faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He alone can save you and cleanse you.

We also want to encourage you that repeated failure does not mean you are beyond God's grace, but His grace is not a license to continue in sin. The Scripture asks Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound. May it never be in Romans 6:1-2. True repentance turns away from sin and turns toward God. God promises No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it in 1 Corinthians 10:13. That way of escape often means fleeing, cutting off the source, making no provision for the flesh in Romans 13:14, and walking by the Spirit so you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh in Galatians 5:16.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is burdened and broken over this sin. Have mercy upon him, O God, according to Your loving kindness. Create in him a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within him in Psalm 51:10. Forgive him as he confesses his sin before You, cleanse him by the blood of Jesus, and deliver him from the bondage of lust and pornography. Help him to hate what You hate and to love purity and holiness. Give him strength to flee temptation, to cut off every source and access that leads him astray, to guard his eyes and his heart, and to walk in the Spirit. Fill his mind with Your Word that he may be transformed by the renewing of his mind in Romans 12:2. Surround him with godly accountability, with brothers in Christ to whom he can confess and be strengthened, for we are told to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another that we may be healed in James 5:16. Let him know that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new in 2 Corinthians 5:17, and that there is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus in Romans 8:1. Save him, Lord, keep him, and lead him in paths of righteousness for Your name's sake. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps in repentance starting today. Remove and block every access to pornography, install filters, keep your devices in open places, and do not be alone with unguarded internet access. Bring this struggle into the light with a mature Christian brother or pastor for regular accountability, stay in the Word daily, memorize Scripture to fight temptation, and fill your time with prayer and wholesome fellowship. When temptation comes, submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you in James 4:7. God is able to set you free and to keep you pure, and we will continue to pray that you walk in that freedom and know the joy of a clean conscience before Him.

We are so glad you reached out and named this honestly. To feel like you have failed countless times and wonder if you can go on is a heavy place to be, and we want you to know you are not alone in it. Your desire for mercy and forgiveness matters to God, and we hear how much you want to be free.

Shame often tells us to hide and try harder by ourselves, but that isolation usually keeps the cycle going. One of the most steady helps for this kind of struggle is not fighting alone.

When you are clear headed, not in the moment of temptation, it can help to invite one trusted, mature believer of the same sex to walk with you consistently. Someone you can be fully honest with, who will check in and pray with you week by week, not just when things go wrong. It also helps to honestly look at what opens the door for you and to clear those things out completely, and to decide ahead of time what you will do instead when temptation comes, so you have a plan before you need it.

You don't have to carry this in secret. God is patient and near, and He can give you strength for the next faithful step.

Father, we bring our brother before You and ask for Your mercy. Forgive him, wash him clean through Jesus, and save him. Lift the weight of shame and give him hope again. Surround him with faithful support, give him wisdom for each day, and draw him closer to You. Lead him in Your way, one step at a time. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your trembling cry for mercy is itself a sign that you are among those to whom He shows it. Do you tremble and shake for fear, and with a penitent heart desire forgiveness. That is the very character who receives mercy. Poor backslider, return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon you. He will blot out all your sins, and so blot them out that He will not remember them against you any more for ever.

You confess that you have sinned again with pornography and masturbation, and that this has happened countless times, and you feel you cannot go on like this. Hear the word of the Lord concerning the deed of mercy. He says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a divine forgiveness. No man can speak such a word and make it true, but Jehovah Himself does it. And though you have sinned against light and knowledge, against mercy, against God and Christ His dear Son, yet still there is forgiveness. Whatever your sins may have been, however often you have fallen, there is forgiveness with God even for you. You have not gone beyond His mercy. You cannot go beyond His mercy if you will trust His Son.

And mark well the reason for mercy. It is for mine own sake. All God's mercy to a sinner is gratis. He never sells, He always gives. He asks no payment. He acts from no motive in us, but because He will have mercy on whom He will have mercy. You need not move God to be merciful, for He is already generous. It is you who must be moved to accept the mercy. Cast yourself upon the mercy of your Judge and you shall find mercy, but first acknowledge that you need mercy. Plead total insolvency, that you are truly penniless and can never discharge your debt, and then there is free forgiveness according to the riches of His grace.

This forgiveness which God gives for Christ's sake is not a half pardon. At one sweep of the divine wave of mercy, sins are washed away. It is a full forgiveness, a continuous forgiveness, and an eternal forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. There is forgiveness with God in His immediate gift, because Jesus is always there at the Mercy Seat. Meet your God at the Mercy Seat lest you have to meet Him at the Judgement Seat. There is forgiveness always with God, for Christ is always there. Therefore go to Him and find it, and you must come through Jesus Christ alone, for there is forgiveness only to be obtained from God through Jesus Christ His Son.

Yet do not mistake this tender mercy as leave to remain in sin. The same God who delights in mercy calls you to turn from this sin and live. What you have confessed is sin against His holy design, for He has ordained that sex and all its expression belong only within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman in marriage. Pornography and self indulgence corrupt that design, defile the heart, and bring the soul into bondage. If you would know His saving mercy, you must not cherish the sin while asking pardon for it, but forsake it. Repentance and faith go together. Flee from every provision for the flesh, make no place for temptation, cut off the sources that ensnare you, bring your struggle into the light before a faithful brother or pastor, and walk in daily watchfulness, prayer and the Word.

He can make you feel the way of salvation as well as know it, and lead you to accept it as well as to understand it. Trust not in your own strength to keep yourself, but in Christ who is able to keep you and to heal you after He has forgiven you.

Let us pray together.

O Lord God, have mercy upon this penitent sinner for Thine own sake. For the sake of Thy Son who shed His blood, blot out these transgressions and remember them no more. Forgive what is past, and grant a new heart that hates the sin once loved. Save by Thy free grace, wash in the blood of Christ, and by Thy Holy Spirit give power to turn from impurity and to walk in purity. Lead this soul to Jesus, to trust Him alone for pardon and for strength, and to live henceforth to Thy glory. Grant deliverance from every chain, a tender conscience, and a steadfast mind fixed on Christ. Amen.
