We have heard your honest confession and your cry for mercy and we join you in bringing this before the throne of grace together in Jesus' name. We understand the weight and shame you feel in saying this has happened countless times and that you cannot go on like this, and we want you to know that God does see your sorrow and He does offer mercy, forgiveness and deliverance, but we must speak the truth to you in love about this sin and about how that mercy comes.
Pornography and masturbation are not small struggles or mere habits, they are sexual immorality and lust of the heart. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Scripture also says Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body in 1 Corinthians 6:18, and that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's as it says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. It also says Let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints, but sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness in Ephesians 5:3. We lovingly rebuke this sin because it defiles the temple, feeds the flesh, and keeps you in bondage, and God calls us to holiness and purity.
We also notice that your request asks for God to have mercy and save you but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we must tell you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and that we can be forgiven and saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. It is not by our sorrow alone or by our own efforts that we are forgiven, but by confessing our sin and trusting in the blood of Jesus who died and rose again for us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9. So we urge you to come to God the Father through faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He alone can save you and cleanse you.
We also want to encourage you that repeated failure does not mean you are beyond God's grace, but His grace is not a license to continue in sin. The Scripture asks Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound. May it never be in Romans 6:1-2. True repentance turns away from sin and turns toward God. God promises No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it in 1 Corinthians 10:13. That way of escape often means fleeing, cutting off the source, making no provision for the flesh in Romans 13:14, and walking by the Spirit so you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh in Galatians 5:16.
We pray together for you now.
Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is burdened and broken over this sin. Have mercy upon him, O God, according to Your loving kindness. Create in him a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within him in Psalm 51:10. Forgive him as he confesses his sin before You, cleanse him by the blood of Jesus, and deliver him from the bondage of lust and pornography. Help him to hate what You hate and to love purity and holiness. Give him strength to flee temptation, to cut off every source and access that leads him astray, to guard his eyes and his heart, and to walk in the Spirit. Fill his mind with Your Word that he may be transformed by the renewing of his mind in Romans 12:2. Surround him with godly accountability, with brothers in Christ to whom he can confess and be strengthened, for we are told to confess our sins to one another and pray for one another that we may be healed in James 5:16. Let him know that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new in 2 Corinthians 5:17, and that there is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus in Romans 8:1. Save him, Lord, keep him, and lead him in paths of righteousness for Your name's sake. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.
We encourage you to take practical steps in repentance starting today. Remove and block every access to pornography, install filters, keep your devices in open places, and do not be alone with unguarded internet access. Bring this struggle into the light with a mature Christian brother or pastor for regular accountability, stay in the Word daily, memorize Scripture to fight temptation, and fill your time with prayer and wholesome fellowship. When temptation comes, submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you in James 4:7. God is able to set you free and to keep you pure, and we will continue to pray that you walk in that freedom and know the joy of a clean conscience before Him.
