Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for a friend overseas who is a single parent needing financial assistance. This person is trying to be a ### and also wants to open their own business. I have tried to help them financially but some financial hardships set me back where I no longer could as much. Thank you.

We lift up your friend before the Lord with heavy hearts, knowing the weight of single parenthood and financial struggle. Father, You see this precious one’s needs, every bill unpaid, every meal stretched thin, every sleepless night burdened with worry. You are Jehovah-Jireh, the God who provides, and we ask You to open doors of provision that no man can shut. Supply their daily bread, Lord, and grant wisdom to steward what You give with integrity and faith.

Scripture tells us, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19). We claim this promise over your friend’s life, trusting that You are already moving on their behalf. For their desire to open a business, we pray for divine favor, clear direction, honest opportunities, and the strength to persevere through setbacks. Let this venture not only meet their needs but also be a testimony to Your faithfulness.

We also pray for your own heart, dear one, as you’ve sacrificed to help. The Lord sees your generosity and will not forget it: "Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor" (Proverbs 22:9). May He restore what has been lost and fill you with peace as you continue to intercede.

Lastly, we ask that your friend would come to know, or deepen their relationship with, Jesus Christ, the only true source of hope. If they do not yet walk with Him, soften their heart to receive the gospel: "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8). May their trust in You grow, Lord, so that even in lack, they would overflow with gratitude and joy.

We stand in agreement with you, believing that God is working all things together for good. Strengthen your friend’s hands for the labor ahead, and remind them that they are never alone. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

It’s clear how much you care for your friend, we can hear the weight of it. Wanting to carry someone and coming up against your own limits is painful, and we’re sorry you’re walking through that frustration. The support you’ve already given hasn’t been wasted; it was real kindness that met real need. Sometimes God uses seasons like this, where we have to stop trying to be the provider, so we can be something just as vital: a steadfast prayer presence and a true friend who stays close even from far away.

Single parenting while trying to build something from scratch is overwhelming, and it’s easy for a person to feel forgotten. Your friendship and consistent prayers are a lifeline. If you haven’t already, you might gently ask your friend if they’ve explored any resources right where they live, a local church benevolence ministry, a community development program, or even a Christian microfinance organization that helps people with sound business planning and small loans. Many pastors and believers have the local wisdom you can’t access from here, and simply connecting your friend to one faithful person nearby could open doors neither of you can see yet.

Most of all, keep bringing your friend before the Lord. We’re joining you now.

Father, you see this parent far away, working hard and carrying heavy responsibility. You know the bills, the dreams, and the exhaustion. We ask you to provide, in surprising ways, through your people, in your timing. Give wisdom for a sustainable plan, protection for this family, and the calm reassurance that they are not abandoned. Quiet any guilt or anxiety in our friend here; let them rest in the truth that prayer is never small to you. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There are many professors whose eye of obedience is not single. They live in this world, they say, "for Christ," but really no one can believe them. If you can judge them by their fruits, they seem to live for almost any other objective than Christ! Be one of God's own larks; be an honest lark, looking and going in the same direction with a single purpose, for your double purpose will make the world suspect you of hypocrisy!

If you make your own business God's business, you will do your business well; and you will be useful in your day and generation. Then be about your Father's business. It was his Father’s business made him sweat great drops of blood; his Father’s business ploughed his back with many gory furrows; his Father’s business pricked his temple with the thorn crown; his Father’s business made him mocked and spit upon. And from that single object the most splendid temptation could not make him diverge. You may heap together the glittering pomps and the gaudy jewels, but he treads them all beneath his feet. The Cross to him was brighter than a crown, the suffering more dear than wealth and honor.

Our business is a more radical one, the one of the axe to the root of the tree by the change of the nature. Our object is more lasting. We have to do with immortal souls and their eternal future. The business of the Church is salvation! Settle it that this is the top and bottom of the business and throw your whole strength in the name of Christ and by the power of the Eternal Spirit into this one objective, if by any means you may save some and bring some to Jesus that they may be delivered from the wrath to come! So with you, Christian people, your one business in life is to lead men to believe in Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit, and every other thing should be made subservient to this one objective. If you can but get them saved, everything else will come right in due time.

There is a laudable pursuit of gain, without which business would not properly be carried on, but there is a line, scarcely as broad as a razor's edge, between diligence in business and greediness for gain. We can so easily pass from the one into the other that we may hardly be aware of it. When a man is increasing his investments, when he is extending his agencies, when he is enlarging his warehouse, when he is employing a larger number of persons than formerly, or even when he is bemoaning the depression of his trade and his heart is aching because he has only half as much business as before, let him examine himself. Though a single staff is such a convenience that a traveler without one may sigh for it, yet a dozen canes would be a load which would make the burdened man prefer, rather, to have no staff at all than to have so many to carry.

But if you are a child of God, a single text will be enough for you. I set a solitary passage of God's Word against a Sanhedrim of philosophers! He came into the world, to Bethlehem's manger and afterwards to Calvary's Cross, with this as His one business, that He might save sinners! Is He not able to save? Is He not just the Savior that we need? God and yet Man in one Person! It is His business, it is not yours. Leave yourself in His hands and He will save you, to the praise of the glory of His Grace.

He has no provision for his most common needs and most true are his words as he writes, "For whom I have suffered the loss of all things." Let us enter the prison and put a personal question to the good man. Paul, your faith has brought you to absolute penury and friendlessness. I commend to you Christians that you give your whole selves to Christ, that from this day forward you serve Him with spirit, soul and body, for after all, there is nothing worth living for, nothing worth even giving a single tear for if you lose it, nor worth a smile if you gain it, save only that which is bound up in Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The burden you carry for this friend is itself a spark of that fire Christ came to cast upon the earth, a warmth of love that proves you are not indifferent to His commands. Yet remember, this present life is no more solid than a dream. The riches men grasp at, the anxieties that press upon the heart, these all flee away with the dawn. So do not let the hardship of the moment, whether yours or your friend's, weigh you down as though it were the final word.

The daily fight is a tempest, and the marketplace a war. Your friend, striving to walk uprightly and to provide, enters that storm every morning. The only sure armor is prayer, prayer early, prayer by night. When one goes forth having first made God propitious by supplication, the rocks and shipwrecks lose their terror. So instead of fretting over the ceasing of your own help, pour out constant entreaty before the throne of grace. God’s provision is not bound by your purse strings.

Let your friend also examine the desire to open a business. If it is for honest bread and health, for the stomach’s sake, as Paul allowed Timothy a little wine, then it is a good and fitting provision. But if the impulse tends toward wantonness, soft living, or the lighting up of unnecessary desires, then it is a snare. To make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts is to kindle a furnace that will consume the soul. Teach them to seek one thing only: the health of the body for the work of the Kingdom, and to spend all other industry on the care of spiritual things.

Tribulation, distress, nakedness, peril, these the blessed Paul counted as nothing, because nothing can wrench away a soul beloved of God. Your friend’s present lack is one of those very waves which, if endured with faith, will only carry them closer to the harbour. Endure affliction, the Apostle commands; watch in all things. These light and momentary troubles are working an eternal weight of glory. Bid your friend, then, to anchor hope not in a loan or a scheme, but in Him who feeds the ravens and clothes the lilies. Toil for a little, that you may be crowned forever; do not draw down endless punishment by grasping at a moment’s ease. I will join my prayers to yours, that God may give both of you the favourable winds of His grace, and that this trial may become the occasion of a firmer trust and a purer love.
