Fornication, adultery, restoration

Kensem

Beloved of All
Please lift a special someone (hidden for privacy reasons) to the throne of God in the name of Jesus.
This person is said to be a born-again Christian, but he distanced himself from God due to fornication and therefore married an adulterous woman.
Let us pray in Jesus name that this person accepts God's will regarding their broken relationship, and understands that, as a Christian, they cannot be unequally yoked, but must marry someone who is also a Christian.

Let's pray based on these verses:
Hosea 2:19-23
[19] “I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me In righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and mercy;
[20] I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, And you shall know the Lord.
[21] “It shall come to pass in that day That I will answer,” says the Lord; “I will answer the heavens, And they shall answer the earth.
[22] The earth shall answer With grain, With new wine, And with oil; They shall answer Jezreel.
[23] Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’”

Please continue to pray...Keep praying that this brother has unweavering faith in Jesus Christ and the Father's holy plan for his life...AMEN
LET GOD BE GLORIFIED!!

Please continue to pray in Jesus' name that this brother drives the adulterous and godless woman out of his house/flat. Do not persecute those who pray for him and encourage him to follow God. To God be the glory who is Holy forever.

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear brother who has strayed from the path of righteousness through the sin of fornication and entered into an adulterous marriage. The Word of God is clear: "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). This brother, though born again, has bound himself to someone who does not share his faith, and this union is not pleasing to the Lord. We must pray fervently for his repentance and restoration, for the Lord is faithful to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness when we confess our sins (1 John 1:9).

The passage from Hosea you shared is a beautiful reminder of God’s unfailing love and His desire to betroth His people to Himself in righteousness, justice, lovingkindness, and mercy. Yet, this promise is contingent upon our obedience and repentance. The Lord calls us to holiness, and this brother must turn away from this sinful union. "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4). There is no room for compromise in this matter. The adulterous woman must be driven out of his home, for her presence is a stumbling block to his walk with God. We do not say this out of hatred or judgment, but out of love for this brother’s soul and a desire to see him restored to fellowship with the Father.

Let us pray together in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can approach the throne of God and the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). There is no other mediator between God and man, and it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father (1 Timothy 2:5). If this brother has truly been born again, the Holy Spirit will convict him of his sin and draw him back to repentance. We must pray that he listens to the voice of the Spirit and not the lies of the enemy, who seeks to keep him in bondage.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts for this brother who has strayed from Your will. Lord, we know that You are faithful and just to forgive him when he confesses his sins and turns away from them. We pray that You would break the chains of this adulterous relationship and set him free. Convict his heart, Father, and give him the strength to drive out the ungodly influence in his home. We ask that You would surround him with godly counsel and encouragement, that he may not be swayed by those who would lead him astray. Restore him, Lord, to the path of righteousness and prepare him for a godly spouse who will walk with him in faith. We pray that he would seek You with his whole heart and submit to Your holy plan for his life.

Father, we also pray for the woman involved in this adulterous union. We ask that You would open her eyes to the truth of the Gospel and draw her to repentance. Soften her heart, Lord, and let her see the error of her ways. May she turn from her sin and seek You with sincerity. We know that You desire all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9), and we pray that she would find salvation in Jesus Christ.

We rebuke the spirit of deception that has blinded this brother and kept him in this sinful relationship. We command it to leave in the name of Jesus and declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We pray that he would stand firm in his faith, resisting the devil so that he may flee from him (James 4:7). Strengthen him, Lord, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may walk in obedience to Your Word.

We also lift up those who are praying for this brother and encouraging him to follow You. Protect them from persecution and give them boldness to speak the truth in love. Let their words be a light to his path and a guide back to You. We pray that You would bless their efforts and use them to bring about Your will in this situation.

Father, we trust in Your promise that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We pray that this brother would humble himself before You and seek Your forgiveness. Restore him, Lord, and let him experience the fullness of Your love and grace. May he walk in the light as You are in the light, and may his life bring glory to Your holy name.

In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for bringing this brother before the Lord so faithfully and for wanting God's glory above all in his life. We hear your burden for him to know the Lord again clearly and to walk in the Father's plan with unwavering faith.

We join you in asking God to draw him close and to make His will clear to him. When someone has drifted after sin, returning is rarely a single moment but a process of turning and learning to walk a new direction day by day. That kind of change grows best with steady accountability and patient support, not just conviction in the moment. God can use quiet, consistent prayer and the care of trusted pastors or mature believers to help that work take root.

If you have a relationship with him, a gentle next step can be to keep entrusting him to the Lord in prayer and, as the Lord gives opportunity, encourage him toward a safe, trusted pastor or counselor who can walk with him over time. We leave the outcome and timing in God's hands, trusting Him to work with both truth and mercy for everyone involved.

Father, we lift this brother to You in Jesus' name. Draw him back to Yourself, strengthen his faith, and give him ears to hear Your voice and courage to follow Your will for his life and relationships. Give wisdom to all who care for him, and bring healing and dignity to each person touched by this situation. Lead him step by step into faithfulness and peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your petition has been heard and it is laid with much tenderness before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven whereby we must be saved, and no other way of approach unto the Father.

We do not ask the Lord to bless what He has called sin, for fornication and adultery are committed in the sight of God and grieve His Holy Spirit, and to live together outside the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman which is marriage is not according to His holy will. What we do ask is that which our Lord has commanded to be preached among all nations in His name, that repentance and remission of sins should be proclaimed, for where there is true repentance there is full and free forgiveness through the finished work of Christ.

There is a repentance that is of the flesh, a carnal repentance wrought by fear of judgment, which does not give God glory and does not last. And there is a repentance unto life, which is the gift of the Holy Ghost, for Christ is exalted on high to give repentance as well as pardon. True repentance gives God glory, it makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ, it weeps and abhors past sin because of the love that has pardoned it, and it avoids present sin because of the love of Him who died for us. It is practical, it yields works meet for repentance, and it lives as long as faith lives. We pray that this brother may receive such a repentance, a broken spirit which God will not despise, not a passing sorrow that withers, but a godly sorrow that needs not to be repented of.

You have well quoted the word by Hosea, I will betroth thee unto me for ever in righteousness and in justice and in lovingkindness and in mercy, and thou shalt know the Lord. This is the betrothal which alone can restore a wandering heart, to be bound to Christ in faithfulness. We pray that this dear one, if indeed he is born again, may know again that betrothal, that he may be drawn rather than driven, for the goodness of God leads to repentance. The Lord does not drive men as Cain was driven, but draws with cords of love.

Concerning the yoke of which you speak, the Scripture warns, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers. When that easy yoke of Christ and His precept is rejected, men often find they must bear a far heavier yoke, an iron yoke of remorse. We have seen it, as one who married not in the Lord finds sorrow where there was thought to be happiness. We pray that this brother may have unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and may submit to the Father's holy plan for his life, accepting the will of God with a submissive heart, and understanding that marriage is a covenant before God to be entered only in the Lord and to be kept in holiness.

For his household we pray not with bitterness or a spirit of persecution toward any, for we are not to persecute those who pray and exhort, but with a desire for holiness and peace. If there be cohabitation outside of marriage, we pray that sin may be forsaken and that purity may be sought. If there be a marriage covenant already entered, though it be troubled and stained by unfaithfulness, we pray that the Lord would grant wisdom, that the brother would seek godly counsel of faithful pastors and not act in haste or harshness, but in righteousness and mercy, that the Lord Himself would work conviction and truth in that home. As David found that adultery leaves a halting even after pardon, and as Peter found that a look from Christ can dissolve the heart into streams of bitter and saving repentance and then restore him to feed the sheep again, so we pray for a speedy and true restoration, not a continuance in sin without repentance.

Let us pray together. O Lord God, who hast shown mercy to those who had not obtained mercy and hast called those who were not Thy people to be Thy people, look upon this brother. Grant him repentance unto life and faith that looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only. Give him a broken and contrite heart, wash him in the blood of the Lamb, betroth him to Thyself in righteousness and lovingkindness, and make him to know Thee. Keep him from the way of fornication and from unequal yoking, establish his feet in Thy holy will, and let his house be ordered in purity and truth. Lead him by Thy goodness to turn wholly to Thee, and let all be to the glory of Thy holy name, who art holy for ever. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request has been heard and we join you in bringing this brother before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus, asking for mercy, truth and restoration according to the will of God.

Scripture teaches that fornication and adultery are not light matters. They defile the soul and are an offense not only against people but against God Himself. When a person who is bound in marriage defiles himself with another, whether that other is married or free, he transgresses the covenant and sins against the Lord who gave the covenant. For this reason we must not treat such sin lightly, and we must not ask God to bless any relationship that continues in it. What God calls holy is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with sexual union belonging only within that covenant. Anything outside it stands in need of repentance, not blessing.

You quoted Hosea 2:19 to 23, where the Lord says, I will betroth you to Me forever in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy, in faithfulness, and you shall know the Lord. This is a great comfort. It shows that God is faithful even when His people have been unfaithful, and His purpose is to draw us to know Him and to be made His people by mercy. Yet that mercy is not given to leave us in sin, but to lead us to know the Lord and to walk in His righteousness. To be betrothed to Him in faithfulness means turning from fornication and adultery and being cleansed through Jesus Christ, through whom alone salvation comes.

We pray for this brother that God will grant him true repentance. Tears alone are not repentance if the heart does not turn and the life does not change. God does not shut the door on repentance for those who truly return to Him, but He calls for a real turning from sin, a washing of the heart from wickedness, and a renewed mind that seeks to please Him. We pray that he will see his distance from God for what it is, humble himself without pride, and return with unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and in the Father's holy plan for his life.

Concerning marriage, the Lord taught that marriage is to be kept faithfully, and He permits one ground for lawful dismissal, namely fornication, lest the covenant be forced to cover ongoing adultery. Apart from that, the covenant remains. The call not to be unequally yoked is a command to be obeyed before entering marriage, to seek a spouse who is also in Christ. Once a man and woman have entered the covenant of marriage, the duty is to honor that covenant before God, to seek holiness, counsel and the wisdom of the church. If there is adultery or ongoing unfaithfulness, it must be dealt with truthfully, with pastoral counsel and church accountability, not with hatred or with casual dismissal. If this woman is indeed living in adultery and godlessness, we pray not out of contempt for her but that God would either bring her to repentance and faith in Christ, or, if she persists in unfaithfulness and refuses the covenant, that God would make His will clear to this brother through Scripture and godly counsel, so that whatever step he takes is according to righteousness and not passion or pride.

We also hear your concern that those who pray for him not be persecuted. Those who admonish a brother in love should not be reviled. The church is to mourn over sin reported among believers and to seek the restoration of the sinner with gentleness and firmness, as a father disciplines a child for his good. We pray that those interceding for him will continue with patience, truth and love, without malice toward any person.

Let us pray together:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, through whom alone we have forgiveness and access to Your throne, have mercy on this brother. Reveal to him the gravity of fornication and adultery, and the holiness of marriage. Grant him a true repentance that bears fruit, a heart that knows You, and faith that does not waver. Betroth him to Yourself in righteousness and mercy, cleanse him from all defilement, and teach him to walk in faithfulness. Make Your will for his relationships clear, and give him courage to obey it, whether it requires reconciliation in holiness, or a lawful and sorrowful separation that You permit. Give wisdom to pastors and counselors around him, protect those who pray for him from discouragement and persecution, and save and transform all who are involved, that You may be glorified as the Holy One forever. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this burden and for your desire to see this brother restored to close fellowship with the Lord. We join you in prayer in the name of Jesus, asking that God will be glorified and that His holy will be done in this situation.

Scripture is clear that our bodies are not our own to use for sexual immorality. God created our bodies for Himself and gave us strong desires to be expressed only within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman for life. Fornication and adultery are listed among the works of the flesh. Fornication is a sin against your own body and it is marked by selfishness, using another person only for gratification. Jesus taught that even lusting in the heart is adultery before God. We are therefore called to flee sexual immorality, not to play with it or to find pleasure in watching or approving it in others, but to turn away from it completely.

The Word also says do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. That word speaks of being bound together in a close partnership where two are trying to pull together but cannot. This is not limited to marriage, but it certainly includes marriage. Many people feel their case is an exception and that love will overcome the difference, and they go ahead even when the Word counsels otherwise. Yet light has no fellowship with darkness and righteousness has no fellowship with unrighteousness. When a believer is yoked with an unbeliever, the yoke is always unequal because you do not live by the same standard. What troubles your conscience because you want to honor the Lord may not trouble the other person at all. Lying, cheating, or bending the truth may not bother one who does not follow Christ, but it will bother you. Like oil and water, the two do not mix. For that reason God says to come out from among what is unclean and be separate, so that He may receive us as a Father receives His sons and daughters.

There is a difference between being sorry and truly repenting. Many are sorry that they were caught or that there are painful consequences, but godly sorrow leads to repentance and repentance means a change. It is a turning away from the sin and a turning back to God, not going back to do the same thing again. The Lord gives space to repent because He desires mercy and restoration.

That is the hope we see in the passage you mentioned in Hosea. There God promises to betroth His people to Himself forever in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy, and in faithfulness, so that they may know the Lord. He promises to have mercy on those who had not obtained mercy and to say to those who were not His people, You are My people, and they shall say, You are my God. This shows the heart of God to restore the unfaithful when they return to Him, not on the basis of their own merit but on His mercy and faithfulness. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and any restoration must begin with a renewed surrender to Him.

So we pray for this brother, that God would draw him back to Himself and give him unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and in the Father's holy plan for his life. We pray that he will accept God's will even when it means accepting that a relationship is broken, and that he will have clarity to understand that as a Christian he is called to pursue holiness and not to be bound together with one who does not believe. If he is already in a marriage covenant, we pray that he will seek wise, biblical counsel and act according to Scripture with both truth and grace, not out of hatred or harshness, but out of a desire to honor the Lord. If he is living in sexual sin outside of marriage, we pray that he will flee it and be separate from what is unclean. In either case we pray that he will not see himself as a special exception to what God has said, but will submit to the Word in humility.

We also pray for the woman involved, that if she does not know the Lord she may come to know His mercy, for God is able to show mercy to those who have not yet obtained it. And we pray for you and for all who are praying and encouraging this brother to follow God, that you will not be persecuted or discouraged, but will continue with love, patience, and truth.

May the Lord give this brother godly sorrow that works true repentance, a clean heart, and a renewed mind to know and walk in the will of God, to keep his body for the Lord, and to know the Lord more deeply as one betrothed to Him in faithfulness. We ask this in the name of Jesus, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
