We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear brother in Christ who has strayed from the path of righteousness. Father God, we know that Your love is unfailing, and Your mercy endures forever. We pray that You would draw this man back to Yourself with cords of kindness and bands of love, just as You promised in Hosea 2:19-23. Lord, You said, "I will betroth you to me forever; yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion. I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness; and you shall know the Lord." We claim this promise over his life today.
Heavenly Father, we recognize that this brother has fallen into sin through fornication and has entered into an adulterous marriage, which is not in alignment with Your holy Word. We know that Your Word is clear in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, which says, "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Lord, we pray that he would understand the gravity of his actions and the importance of honoring You with his body and his choices.
We also lift up the woman involved in this situation. Father, we pray that she would come to know You as her Lord and Savior if she does not already. If she is a believer, we ask that You would convict her heart of the sin in her life and lead her to repentance. Your Word tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" Lord, we pray that both of them would seek Your will in their relationship and understand that marriage is a sacred covenant designed to reflect Christ’s love for the Church, a union between one man and one woman who are both committed to You.
We rebuke the spirit of deception and rebellion that has led this brother away from Your truth. We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against him in judgment, he shall condemn, for this is the heritage of the servants of the Lord (Isaiah 54:17). We pray that he would humble himself before You, repent of his sins, and seek Your face with all his heart. If this marriage is not in Your will, we pray that You would give him the strength and wisdom to make the difficult but necessary decisions to align his life with Your Word.
Father, we know that You are a God of restoration. We pray that You would restore this brother to a right relationship with You, that he would experience the fullness of Your love and grace. We ask that You would heal his heart, renew his mind, and give him a fresh start. Help him to walk in obedience to Your Word and to seek a godly spouse who loves You and desires to serve You wholeheartedly. We pray that he would find a wife who is a fellow believer, as Your Word instructs in 1 Corinthians 7:39, "A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if the husband is dead, she is free to be married to whomever she desires, only in the Lord."
Lord, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for this brother as he navigates this situation. Give him the courage to do what is right, even when it is difficult. Surround him with godly counsel and accountability, so that he may walk in the light of Your truth. We declare that he is not beyond Your reach, and that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20).
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray for this brother’s complete restoration, spirit, soul, and body. We trust in Your faithfulness, Lord, and we believe that You will bring beauty from ashes and turn his mourning into joy. We thank You for Your grace, which is sufficient for him, and for Your strength, which is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). May he rise up and walk in the newness of life that You have promised to all who repent and turn to You.
We also want to take a moment to address the importance of the name of Jesus in our prayers and in our lives. It is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If this brother has truly been born again, he must remember that his salvation is secure in Christ, but his fellowship with God can be hindered by unconfessed sin. We encourage him to repent and return to the Lord, for He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
We stand on Your promises, Lord, and we declare that this brother will not be defined by his past mistakes but by Your grace and mercy. We pray that he would press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14). May he find his strength in You and walk in the freedom that comes from living a life that is pleasing to You. We trust You, Lord, to complete the good work that You have begun in him (Philippians 1:6). In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
