We join you in bringing this relationship and friendship before the Lord and we hear your heart to see it healed and made stronger than before. You have shown care in not wanting him to feel obligated or pressured, but to come freely and genuinely, and we commend that desire for honesty and grace. The Lord delights in relationships that are built on truth, patience, and selfless love.
We want to encourage you that God is the great healer of relationships and the One who gives wisdom for our words. As it is written, Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19. And with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace Ephesians 4:2-3. Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection Colossians 3:14. Love covers a multitude of sins 1 Peter 4:8. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. We pray that both of you will extend that kind of love and patience to one another, listening well and speaking truth in love, so that misunderstanding is cleared and no false impression remains that you do not care or wish to end the friendship.
If this relationship is a courtship between a man and a woman, we want to gently remind you of God's design. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and that being a boyfriend or girlfriend should be considered courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer. We encourage you to pursue relationships that align with biblical principles, seeking a godly spouse and a marriage that honors God, and to keep purity and holiness before marriage, for God calls us to flee from sexual immorality and to honor Him with our bodies. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14. If this is a godly friendship, we pray it will remain a pure, encouraging, Christ centered friendship that sharpens you both as iron sharpens iron Proverbs 27:17. In either case we pray that your communication will be clear, kind, and free from pressure, and that the Lord will guard your hearts from anxiety as you trust Him. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus as Lord and Savior, to bring every need to the Father in His name, and to seek His will above all else for this relationship.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one and this friendship to You. Lord, You know the last message that was sent and the heart behind it. We ask that You give this man clarity and understanding, that he would receive those words as they were intended, not as rejection or a desire to break fellowship, but as an invitation given in freedom and sincerity. Remove any confusion, hurt, or misinterpretation, and let Your peace rest upon them both. Heal what has been strained and mend what has been broken. Help them to speak the truth in love, to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to bear with one another in love. If this is a courtship, we pray You will guide it toward Your will for a godly marriage that honors You, kept pure and holy. If it is a friendship, we pray You will make it a godly, encouraging, and faithful friendship that glorifies You. We ask that You make this relationship stronger and more Christ centered than before, rooted in grace, honesty, and mutual respect. Give wisdom for when and how to meet, and let every step be led by Your Spirit and not by obligation or pressure. We trust Your perfect will and timing, and we ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to commit this friendship to the Lord, to pray for wisdom, to communicate openly and gently, and to trust God with the outcome. Whether He brings a deeper restoration or leads in a different direction, His plan is for your good and His glory. Keep seeking Him first, remaining in His Word and in prayer, and He will direct your paths.
