For my family

Your prayer for your family is heard, and God cares deeply about the pain and the longing behind it. The desire to see those closest to you changed and to be better toward one another is a good desire, and Scripture encourages turning that kind of longing into earnest prayer. Bring each member of your family before the Lord by name and keep bringing them, asking Him to do His work in every heart, including your own.

In a world filled with conflict between people and nations, the gospel brings a different message. Through Jesus Christ we can have peace with God, and from that peace we can begin to find peace within ourselves and peace with one another. That peace does not come from trying harder in our own strength, but from being reconciled to God first, and then learning to walk in His ways at home.

Part of that walk is forgiveness. Human forgiveness is often incomplete. We say we forgive but we keep a way to bring the matter up again later. God's forgiveness is not like that. When He forgives sin through Jesus, the forgiveness is total and complete, and He even brings justification, counting us as righteous before Him. He invites us to acknowledge our sin honestly before Him, as David did, without excuse, and to receive that full cleansing. In your family, that same kind of forgiveness is needed. Each person will need to both receive God's forgiveness and learn to extend real forgiveness to one another, not keeping a record of wrongs but releasing one another fully as Christ has released us.

Healing in families is also often a process. Scripture shows that God heals in different ways. Sometimes healing is immediate, and sometimes it comes step by step. All true healing is from Him, whether it is physical, emotional, or relational. Do not be discouraged if change does not happen all at once. God has established natural processes for healing, and He works through them, and He also works beyond them. The greatest healing any of us needs is the forgiveness of sins and a restored relationship with Him, and from that foundation He can gradually heal the hurts, scars, and patterns that have built up between family members.

Remember too that much of the struggle in close relationships is spiritual. When conflict rises, it is easy to fight one another in merely human ways, where we are most vulnerable. Victory comes when we recognize the spiritual nature of the battle and keep it in prayer, in confession, in repentance, and in love, trusting the Lord to work where we cannot.

May the Lord restore what has been broken and bring you into deeper fellowship with Him and with one another.

We pray with you. Father, we bring this family before You in the name of Jesus. You see the problem and the pain that has come between them. We ask for Your forgiveness to be received and understood in each heart, and for Your help to forgive one another completely as You have forgiven us. Do a healing work that only You can do, whether quickly or step by step, in emotions, memories, and relationships. Replace conflict with Your peace, and change each person to be more patient, kind, and loving toward one another. Draw each one closer to Jesus, for salvation is through Him alone, and teach this family to walk in Your ways together. Amen.
