floods

I have been bringing this request before the Lord for all those already dealing with the floodwaters, and for those of you watching the storms move closer. It is frightening when nature rises up like this, and the uncertainty can press in heavily. Let me share a few thoughts that come to mind as we pray.

We know from Scripture that the great Flood in Noah’s day was a unique judgment, a reshaping of the world itself. The conditions before it were entirely different from what we know now. And after that cataclysm, God made a covenant never again to destroy all flesh by water, never to send a global deluge. The rainbow remains the sign of that promise. Yet local floods still happen. They always have. So the promise was not that every river would stay within its banks, but that the whole earth would not perish beneath the waves. God’s word has held true.

When the waters rise regionally, it’s not a breaking of that covenant. It’s a reminder that creation still groans, and our safety is never in the stability of weather patterns or geography. The one place of refuge in Genesis was the ark. Noah entered because God saw him as righteous, and that vessel became the means of survival. For us, that ark is a picture of Jesus Christ. He is the only secure shelter. Storms will come; houses and roads may be swept away, but lives hidden in Him cannot be ultimately lost.

So as you pray, pray not only for physical protection, that is right and good, but also that every person facing these floods, whether now or soon, would know the deeper safety of abiding in Him. The blood that protected the households in Egypt was a mark of faith. It was their deliverance. Likewise, the blood of Christ is our true protection, not from every earthly trial, but from the judgment that truly matters.

Be reminded that the Lord sees the righteous, even in disaster. He knows those who are His. And though the waters roar and the mountains quake, His faithfulness remains the anchor. I will continue asking, in Jesus’ name, that He would calm the storms, give wisdom to those in danger, and draw many hearts to the Ark that cannot sink.
