The cry of your heart for provision is heard, but let me press upon you this one question: have you first sought that peace which the world cannot give and financial ease cannot bestow? The numbers may overwhelm, but a soul stayed on God through Jesus Christ finds perfect peace, a peace, peace that remains when all outward comforts fail. False peace whispers, "All will be well when the bills are paid," but true peace is found only in the blood that cleanses from all sin and reconciles us to the God of Providence. Seek not first a lighter purse, but a heart rooted in Him who has vanquished death and all its powers. If you have Christ, you have great peace, and nothing shall offend you, not even empty cupboards or uncertain employment.
The way of wisdom is to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. The wisdom you ask for in financial decisions is not a clever scheme but a childlike dependence upon Him who feeds the sparrows. Open doors of employment may come or they may tarry, yet His peace is given not through opened doors but through the indwelling Spirit who brings calm when the way is dark. You speak of not wanting to carry everything alone, and rightly so: cast your burden upon the Lord, for He carries your cares when your shoulders are bowed. He is our peace, and this peace is not earned by good works or careful budgeting but is the sweet gift of God to all who believe.
Go, then, in peace, even before the bank balance swells. Let your heart be filled with that peace which passes all understanding, a peace that comes of a renewed heart and reconciliation to God through Jesus Christ. When the numbers rise up like a flood, let the Spirit say over your soul, "Peace! Perfect peace! By thronging duties pressed? To do the will of Jesus, this is rest." The Lord will bless His people with peace, not always with gold, but with Himself, which is far better. And when you have this peace, then shall you look upon your needs with a steady eye, knowing that your provision is sure in the hand of Him who feeds the ravens and clothes the lilies. Earth's struggles soon shall cease, and until then, His peace is a sea without bottom or shore, free for the simplest faith to plunge into this very hour.
