We see your heart in lifting up the Lord’s Prayer as a model for how we ought to approach our Heavenly Father, seeking first His glory, His kingdom, and His will before presenting our own needs. You’ve rightly pointed us to Matthew 6:33, which declares, "But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." This is a foundational truth we must cling to in every season of life.

The structure of the Lord’s Prayer beautifully reflects the priority of God’s holiness, His sovereign rule, and His perfect will before we even ask for our daily provision, forgiveness, or protection. It reminds us that our relationship with the Father is not transactional but transformational, we come to Him not as consumers demanding our desires, but as children surrendering to His perfect wisdom and love. The line you’ve drawn between the glory of God and the meeting of our needs is exactly where our focus should remain. When we honor Him first, He promises to add what we need (Philippians 4:19).

We must also address the reference to 1 John 7:18, as this verse does not exist in Scripture, 1 John only has five chapters. However, the truth you’re pointing to is echoed in 1 John 5:18, which says, "We know that whoever is born of God doesn’t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’t touch him." We confess that too often, we reverse the order of the Lord’s Prayer, seeking our needs before seeking Your face. Forgive us, Lord. Today, we choose to align our hearts with Your will. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in our lives, just as it is in heaven.

Father, we ask for Your daily provision, not just for physical needs, but for spiritual nourishment, wisdom, and strength. Give us this day our daily bread, and help us to trust You completely, knowing that You are Jehovah-Jireh, our Provider. Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive those who have wronged us. Search our hearts, Lord, and reveal any bitterness or unforgiveness we may be harboring. Teach us to extend the same grace You’ve given us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Guard our hearts and minds from the schemes of the enemy, and strengthen us to stand firm in Your truth. We recognize that apart from You, we can do nothing, but in Christ, we are more than conquerors.

For Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. We surrender our plans, our desires, and our very lives to You, trusting that when we seek You first, all else will fall into place according to Your perfect timing. Thank You for hearing us, Father. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come to You, the only name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12). Amen.

To those reading this, we encourage you to examine your own prayers. Are you approaching God with a heart of surrender, or are you treating Him like a cosmic vending machine? The Lord’s Prayer is not just a recitation, it’s a posture of the heart. When we prioritize God’s glory, we can trust that He will faithfully meet our needs (Matthew 6:8). But remember, His provision may not always look the way we expect, and His timing is perfect.

If you are struggling with unmet needs, take comfort in Psalm 37:4-5: "Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this." Delight in Him first, and watch how He moves.

Lastly, if you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to consider the words of John 3:16-17: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him." Salvation is found in no one else. Today is the day of salvation, turn to Him, confess your sins, and receive the gift of eternal life.

The prayer our Lord taught begins not with our bread or our debts, but with the glory of the Father. "Your Name be Honored" is the first great petition. How can any man lift a true prayer who has not first bowed his soul in reverence before the majesty of Heaven? You seek the Kingdom and His righteousness, and indeed all other things shall be added, but take care that your heart is not secretly clamoring for the additions while giving mere lip-service to the glory. God is daily loading you with benefits you cannot count, benefits you do not even see, preservation from final sin, the education of the Spirit, a seat at the King's table though you are as unworthy as Mephibosheth. And yet you murmur. The Father's glory demands that you see His goodness in the very afflictions that chasten you sorely. The rod is a more profitable instrument than the sweet goblet, and tribulation comes from the same hand that fills the cup of mercy.

You have asked for daily bread, for forgiveness, for deliverance. Good and right petitions, but let your soul grasp this: that you must be delivered from yourself. From the power of darkness, from the lusts that sprang from your own heart, from the sleep of a mortified conscience. If you are to be delivered from evil, it will be God’s work alone, a ransom found by Divine Love, a rescue shouted from the excellent Glory: "Deliver him from going down to the pit." The prayer for forgiveness is null and void if it comes from a heart that nurses grudges and withholds mercy from its debtors. A silent faith that does not declare the works of the Lord robs God of His glory and robs others of a benediction. What use is a prayer-meeting where only a dozen gather? Can God bless such neglect of the mercy seat and still pour out His Spirit?

One hearty prayer springing from the depths of your soul is worth more than ten thousand forms rattled off by rote. Be much in prayer, for there is your victory. There is your happiness. There is your armor bright. Seek His face now, not with the filing of gems, but with pearls from the lips of infinite love. Go to Him, confessing that your departure always begins with a slackening of supplication. Cry out for deliverance with a faith that is infallibly assured of His goodness, even when you cannot see it. God’s sovereignty encloses you, His angels surround you. He has given commandment to save you, and you shall be saved.

You have set the words in their right order, speaking first of God’s glory and then of your needs, just as the Lord taught. Yet consider whether the heart keeps pace with the tongue. To pray “Your will be done” is not merely to recite it, but to welcome whatever that will brings, whether ease or hardship, plenty or want. The promise is sure: when we seek first the kingdom and His righteousness, all these other things shall be added. But seeking the kingdom means anchoring the soul there, so that earthly bread and bodily protection do not become the true object of desire. Anxiety about the “added things” often reveals that we have not yet fully cast our care upon Him.

Use the lawful things of this life with moderation, and they become no hindrance. It is not marriage, nor food, nor daily provision that stands between a man and the kingdom, but the purpose of the heart which makes an ill use of them. Even suffering want, if it comes from God’s hand, is no evil. For what is truly evil but sin alone? Blindness, poverty, the loss of goods, none of these injure the soul unless we seize them as excuses for pride or despair. The suffering of the righteous is a token of God’s righteous judgment, by which He crowns you and refines you, while He will one day punish those who do evil. Wait for His timing; do not demand vengeance or immediate relief as if the Lord must answer on your terms.

Beware of the root of pride, the beginning of all sin. The Pharisee also prayed with correct words, yet he went away condemned because he trusted in himself and gazed contemptuously at others. Even persistence in prayer can become a snare if you begin to imagine that your technique or vehemence secures a hearing. The power is not in mighty phrases but in a humble, obedient faith that says, “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Look at Paul: he reasoned for months, suffered opposition, separated from the hardened, and continued teaching daily. Yet he did not force the hand of God; he waited for the right moment, and in two years all Asia heard the word. The Lord is not slow to answer, but He matures our desire so that we receive what is truly good.

If you truly covet glory, covet that which is glory indeed, the approval that comes from heaven, not the fleeting notice of men. Let the fear of God master you more than any earthly passion or shame before neighbors. For what human respect can compel us to do both right and wrong, yet the fear of God should be stronger still. When you pray, “Deliver us from evil,” know that the greatest deliverance is from the evil will within, from the love of praise, from the craving that sets the heart on temporal things. Then, whether you abound or suffer need, you will do all to the glory of the Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The heart of your prayer is exactly where Christ directs us to begin, with the Father's glory, His kingdom, and His righteousness. That is the proper order. When we set His honor and His will above everything else, we are realigning ourselves away from the crumbling kingdoms of this world and toward the one eternal throne that will never fall.

The danger for any of us, as we live in this tension between receiving God’s promises and seeing them fully realized, is the temptation to turn inward and seek our own security. The Scriptures show us how easily a heart can shift: a ruler can be strengthened, established, and blessed, and then forget the very hand that raised him up. The more we seem to gain control, the more the enemy whispers that we can hold things together by our own force. That kind of false strength always leads to spiritual decline, because it seeks a throne while ignoring the King. We must keep ourselves in the love of God, not by grasping tightly to our own plans, but by resting in His.

There is a very real struggle happening in the unseen realm. The true kingdom belongs to Jesus; He has bought it and He is God's anointed King. Yet for now, a usurped power seeks to hold by force what is no longer rightfully his. This is why Jesus taught you to pray for deliverance from the evil one. You live in a contested territory, but you are not unarmed. In Christ, you have been transferred out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of light. You carry the authority of that kingdom. When you pray for protection and provision, you are not begging a reluctant ruler; you are trusting the rightful King to sustain you while you advance His purposes in enemy-occupied land.

So keep that order firmly fixed: seek His kingdom and His righteousness first. Do not grow fascinated with the corrupt systems that are already passing away, even when they boast of power. The day is coming when all evil will be purged, and the knowledge of the Lord will cover the earth. Until then, your daily bread, your relationships, and your protection are all additions secured by the One who has already conquered. He promises that His kingdom shall come and His will shall be done. You are simply praying for the inevitable victory to break into your present moment.

May you walk in the fruitfulness that comes from a life wholly committed to this priority. In a time when others call evil good, may your heart remain pure and steadfast. Know that you are kept not by your own grip on Him, but by His mighty hold on you.
