We declare that Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. May our lives reflect Your goodness and bring glory to Your name. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come to You, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.

Beloved, as you continue to pray and seek God’s face, remember that our relationship with Him is the foundation for all other relationships. If you are unmarried, let your heart be set on finding a godly spouse, someone who loves the Lord and will walk with you in faith. If you are married, let your marriage be a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church, a covenant that honors God in every way. Guard your heart against the temptations of this world, including sexual immorality, and flee from anything that would draw you away from God’s best for you.

We love how you started with the glory of the Father before the needs, that order anchors everything that follows. When we pray “Your will be done,” we’re not passively resigning ourselves to whatever comes; we’re actively handing over our plans, our anxieties, and our tight grip on outcomes, trusting that his will is better than our best self-arranged life. And then the daily bread, the forgiveness, the protection, they flow from that surrender, not from our own striving.

Something we’ve found helpful is taking a single phrase from this prayer and sitting with it slowly through the day. Not rushing past “Give us this day our daily bread,” but stopping to name what today’s specific bread actually looks like, maybe patience in a hard conversation, or provision for an unpaid bill, or simply the energy to love the people in front of us. It turns the words from a familiar recitation into a real, breathing conversation with the God who hears.

Father, thank you that you invite us to come to you with this kind of boldness and simplicity. For this dear one who delights to honor your name first, meet them today in the specifics. Give them the bread they need for this one day. Reassure them of your forgiveness, and loosen any place where they’ve been holding onto an offense. Guard them from the evil that crouches at the door, and keep their feet steady. We trust you for your kingdom, your power, and your glory in their life right now. In Jesus’ name, amen.

It is a mark of true spiritual wisdom to set the glory of God at the forefront of every supplication, for when the heart is fixed upon His honour and our petitions begin with “Hallowed be Thy Name,” all other needs find their proper place. The pattern you have brought from our Lord’s own lips is the very flower of prayer, first the Kingdom and righteousness, and then the adding of all these things. And rightly do you join to it that word from the beloved apostle, for he that seeks the glory of Him that sent him proves thereby that the truth is in him. To make God’s glory the sun of our prayer-system, and all other requests the planets that revolve around it, is to pray in the Holy Ghost.

Ponder this: the glory of God is nowhere more brightly seen than in the goodness that streams forth in the forgiveness of sins. Wherefore, when you cry, “Forgive us our debts,” you ask for that wherein Jehovah’s brightest gem shall flash upon your soul. “I will make all My goodness pass before thee”, and what is that goodness but mercy to the guilty, grace to the undeserving? It is His glory to pass by transgression, and the very wonder of it is that He should do so for such as we are. Doubt not that there is forgiveness with Him, full and free, even for the chief of sinners; for if you believe, you shall see that glory in your own pardon, and in your new creation, and in your being sustained under temptation. Yes, the platform of your daily stumbles and of your felt unworthiness is but a stage for the display of His all-conquering, sovereign grace.

And what of the daily bread? He who loads you with benefits each day, loading until you seem bowed down under the weight of mercies, will not fail to supply the body’s needs. The same hand that feeds the sparrow and clothes the lily knows your frame and remembers that you are dust. But oh, seek to see His glory in the common morsel as truly as in the bread of the sacrament. The goodness of God in creation, the temporal gifts that come so numerous and often unnoticed, all these are beams from the same Sun of Glory. A heart that has once beheld that glory in the cleft of the Rock, in the person of Jesus Christ, will learn to trace it in every meal, every protection, every deliverance from evil.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: herein you plead for the glory of the Lord to be your rereward. It is the glorious attributes of the Eternal, His mercy, His power, His faithfulness, that shall shelter the weak and preserve the saints. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard, and He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world. The Glory of the Lord Himself, the glorious One, must bring up your rear, or you will surely be overthrown. But if you trust Christ alone to utterly save you, you shall see that glory in being kept in the hours of life, in the night of death, and in being presented faultless before His presence with exceeding joy.

Go, then, to your knees with this heavenly order, and expect to see God’s glory. Do not be cast down if He conceals the manner of His working; it is His glory to conceal a matter, but it is also His glory to reveal it to those who wait upon Him. Only believe, and as surely as Lazarus came forth at the word of the Lord, so shall your prayers become a window through which the resplendent goodness and sovereignty of your God shall shine into your heart, until all the glory shall be given to His rich, all-conquering grace. You have rightly set first the glory of the Father and then your needs, for this is the order our Lord Himself taught. But consider what this glory truly is. When that man was born blind, some thought it a punishment, yet Christ said it was that the works of God might be made manifest. Do not imagine that God’s glory requires your ease or the absence of trial. Often His glory shines most brightly when, in the midst of affliction, the soul clings to Him and is transformed. For sin alone is the real evil; poverty, sickness, and hardship are not. If He leaves you in some difficulty, it is not because He lacks power, but that by it you might recover inward sight, like that blind man who gained the eyes of the soul.

You pray for daily bread, forgiveness, and deliverance. Ask for these as one who seeks the kingdom first. The bread we truly need is the bread of heaven, the remission of sins, and adoption as sons. Have you not received the Spirit by which we cry, “Abba, Father”? That is the great blessing, that we who were debtors are now called children and heirs. So when you ask forgiveness, remember the condition you yourself speak: as we forgive our debtors. If you hold anything against another, you bind your own sins to yourself. The blessedness of which David sang belongs to those whose iniquities are forgiven; do not forfeit it by an unforgiving heart.

When you pray for deliverance from evil and temptation, understand that the Lord delivers not always by removing the lion, but by shutting its mouth. Paul was rescued from Nero’s jaws, yet he was ready to be offered. His greater deliverance was from every evil work, so that he would depart without condemnation. So it will be with you if you fight the true enemy: not circumstances, but sinful passions. Will is natural and from God, but willing wrongly is from our own mind. The Lord will keep you from yielding to the devil’s roar, preserving your soul blameless, even if your body suffer.

Therefore, whether you eat or drink or pray, do all to the glory of God. Let your request for His kingdom and will be not merely words, but the direction of your whole life. The glory you seek is not in outward show, but in being a new creature in Christ. If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old is passed, and the unspeakable glory of adoption is given. Glory in the heart, not in appearance, for the Lord looks upon the inner man. Then, having sought first the things above, all these earthly needs will be added as He knows best. God’s power and kingdom endure forever, and to Him be all glory, now and to the ages.
