We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of reverence, lifting up the beautiful model of prayer you’ve shared, rooted in the words of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Prayer is a sacred blueprint, teaching us to seek first the glory of God before presenting our needs. How wise and faithful it is to begin with worship, declaring, "Our Father who is in heaven, may your name be kept holy. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:9-10 WEB). This posture of humility and surrender aligns our hearts with God’s purposes, ensuring that our requests flow from a place of devotion rather than entitlement.

You’ve rightly connected this to Matthew 6:33, where Jesus commands us to "seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." This is the foundation of a life lived in trust, knowing that when we prioritize God’s glory, He faithfully provides for our needs. Yet we must examine our hearts: are we truly seeking His Kingdom above all else, or do we sometimes allow worldly desires to creep in? The apostle John warns us, "Do not love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him." (1 John 2:15 WEB). Let us guard against idolatry, whether it be materialism, relationships, or even our own comforts, and instead fix our eyes on Christ.

Now, let us address the areas you’ve highlighted, provision, relationship with God and others, and protection, through the lens of Scripture and prayer.

Provision: The Lord’s Prayer teaches us to ask for "our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11 WEB), a humble acknowledgment of our dependence on God. He is Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who provides (Genesis 22:14). Yet we must also remember that His provision is not merely for our physical needs but for our spiritual growth. Are we stewarding His gifts wisely, or do we hoard them in fear? "The generous soul will be made fat, and he who waters will also be watered himself." (Proverbs 11:25 WEB). Let us trust Him to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19), while also being content in whatever state we are in (Philippians 4:11).

Relationship with God and Others: The prayer continues with "forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors" (Matthew 6:12 WEB). This is a sobering reminder that our vertical relationship with God is directly tied to our horizontal relationships with others. Unforgiveness is a poison that defiles the soul. Jesus warns, "If you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:15 WEB). Are there grudges we are holding onto? Bitterness that has taken root? We must repent and extend the same grace we have received. Additionally, our relationship with God must be built on truth. Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6 WEB). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If we are not approaching God in the name of Jesus, we are approaching Him in vain. Salvation is found in no one else.

Protection: The prayer concludes with a plea for deliverance: "Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." (Matthew 6:13 WEB). The enemy prowls like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). We must put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and stand firm in faith. Yet we must also examine our own hearts, are we willfully walking into temptation? Are we flirting with sin, whether through lust, greed, or pride? "Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God,’ for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed." (James 1:13-14 WEB). We must flee from sin and draw near to God (James 4:7-8).

Let us now pray together in the authority of Jesus’ name:

Heavenly Father, we bow before You in awe of Your holiness and majesty. Your name is above every name, and we declare that Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in our lives as it is in heaven. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have sought our own glory instead of Yours. Purify our hearts and align our desires with Your perfect will.

We thank You for being our Provider. You know our needs before we even ask, and we trust You to supply all things according to Your riches. Help us to be good stewards of Your blessings, using them to advance Your Kingdom and bless others. Teach us to be content and to walk in generosity, knowing that You are our source.

Father, we confess any unforgiveness in our hearts. Soften our hearts to forgive others as You have forgiven us. Heal broken relationships and restore unity where there is division. Help us to love others as You have loved us.

Lord, we ask for Your protection over our lives. Guard our hearts and minds from the schemes of the enemy. Strengthen us to resist temptation and to walk in purity and righteousness. Deliver us from evil, and let Your light shine through us in a dark world.

Above all, we thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to You. There is no other name by which we can be saved. We pray all these things in Jesus’ mighty name, for Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

May we continue to seek You first in all things, trusting that as we do, You will add all that we need. Let our lives be a living testimony to Your faithfulness, drawing others to the hope found only in Christ. Go forth in the peace and power of the Holy Spirit, knowing that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).

Illness, especially when it lingers, can wear down more than the body. It can weigh on your spirit and make the simplest tasks feel heavy. When you pray “give us our daily bread,” remember that includes strength for today, not just tomorrow’s worries. Take each day as it comes, and be gentle with yourself. If you haven’t already, we’d encourage you to let a few trusted people in your church or family know specifically what you’re facing so they can pray with you and walk alongside. Also, if you’re dealing with a symptom that hasn’t been checked, we’d gently suggest seeing a doctor, God often works healing through the hands He’s gifted.

We’re praying with you now: Father, You know every ache and fear this dear one carries. "I beseech You, show me Your Glory." That was a large request for Moses to make. He could not have asked for more. It is the greatest petition that man ever asked of God! And you have learned to pray after this manner, setting the Father’s glory first, His name honored, His kingdom come, His will done. This is a giant’s plea, a colossus among prayers, and it pleases the heart of God.

But where is this glory to be seen? God’s Glory evidently lies in His Goodness. When Moses said, "I beseech You, show me Your Glory," the answer given him was this: "I will make all My goodness pass before you." The brightest gem in the crown of God is His goodness! The true Glory of God is like the glory of the king who will not glory in the numbers executed upon the hill of death, but who glories in his subjects who are happy and blessed. And this goodness is sovereign, "I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy to whom I will show mercy." His Glory and His Sovereignty are one.

And how is this goodness most brightly displayed? Christ says, "Said I not unto you that if you would believe you should see the Glory of God?" The death, the burial, the very stinking of Lazarus, all this is only a platform for the Divine Glory to display itself! And when a soul dead in sin is converted, you do see the Glory of God! Most conspicuously in the conversion of the chief of sinners. Such a sight of God’s Glory will make it impossible for a single note of praise to be given to yourselves, but all the Glory, all the Glory shall be to His rich, all-conquering, Sovereign Grace! His Glory is also seen in the fact that these sinners, when saved, hold on and continue to the end. The Glory of the Lord shall be their rereward, their shelter and protection.

You then add your needs, as our Lord taught: "Give us our daily bread." Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits! Temporal and spiritual benefits so numerous, and each one so weighty, that we cannot say less than this, that He daily loadeth us with His benefits, until we seem bowed down to the earth under a joyful sense of obligation to His mercy. It has been your lot, like that of Mephibosheth, to sit daily at the King’s table. Yet you murmur. You have been unbelieving, proud, idle; all sorts of ill-tempers have you shown. Yet has He daily loaded you with benefits.

And now you cry, "Forgive our debts, as we forgive our debtors." This is a divine forgiveness. "I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins." It is a surprising forgiveness, for the text speaks as if God Himself were surprised that such sins should be remitted: "I, even, I." However sinful your life may have been up until now, there is forgiveness with God even for you! He sends this message to you, "There is forgiveness." And what does He ask of you? "It is the glory of God to cover a matter." Then, you cover matters, too. I know some people who always like to be poking into any filth there is. But the spirit of forgiveness would keep us always in a state of love, and this is exactly what the Lord Jesus aims at.

"Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." The Glory of the Lord shall be your rereward. Ready-to-Halt, they have to go on crutches, yet the Glory of the Lord shall be their shelter and protection. There are some of you who, in your humble estimate of yourselves, put yourselves in the rear. But the Glory of the Lord must do it, and we shall have to give Him all the praise! The Glory that excels the glory of perfection! The Glory of being made like unto the First-Born among many brethren! "The glory which thou gavest me, I have given them."

"For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever." When the Lord shall build up Zion, He shall appear in His Glory. Earthly kings often glory in the terror of their power and the splendor of their majesty. What a condescending God is ours, whose Glory is a moral glory and whose chief delight consists in blessing the poor and needy! Let us bless His name for this.

His Glory can be best seen in the clift of the rock. You must be hidden in Christ, the Rock of Ages, to behold His goodness pass by. Now, can you believe this? Can you trust Jesus Christ, alone, to utterly save you? If you have been the chief of sinners, you may have the chief of sinner’s forgiveness, and God can bestow it now. The Glory of the Lord is the Lord Himself! After all, we cannot dissociate the Glory from the Glorious One! God Himself we must have if we would see His Glory!

You pray rightly after the pattern our Lord gave, seeking first God's honor, His kingdom, His will, and then the needs that press upon our mortal nature. But take heed, lest in repeating these holy words your tongue run ahead of your heart. When you cry, "Hallowed be Thy name," do your deeds hallow it? When you ask, "Thy kingdom come," have you first cast out the tyranny of sin from your own soul? For what profit is it to honor the Father with your lips if you despise His image in your neighbor?

Mark this well: the prayer is given in the plural. "Our Father," we say, not "My Father." "Give us our bread," not "my bread." Every clause binds you to the whole body of Christ. How then can you ask for forgiveness while nursing a grudge against a brother? Your own petition carries your condemnation if you withhold mercy from another. The bread for which you ask is not a request for delicacies or abundance; it is for daily sustenance, the bare necessity, that you may learn contentment and not be entangled in cares for the morrow. If God supplies even this, it is enough. And if He gives more, it is not for your storehouses but for the hands of the poor. "Multiply your seed for sowing," says the Apostle, that your alms might increase the fruits of righteousness.

Do you see how Paul, after all his sufferings, stripes, prisons, shipwrecks, daily dying, never boasted? He counted himself an unprofitable servant. The blessing pronounced is not on the self-exalting but on those whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessedness comes by grace, not by your own laborious display. Approach therefore the throne of grace with trembling, not with the proud security of one who has mastered a formula. God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above your strength, but do not presume; the way of escape is often found in a humble, broken spirit, not in a rigid confidence.

Let your prayer, then, be matched by a life of forgiveness, simplicity, and care for others. Seek first His kingdom, but know that the kingdom is established in you when you are reconciled to your neighbor, when you break bread with the hungry, and when you bear temptations quietly, trusting not in yourself but in His power. The glory is His alone, yours is only to reflect it by a meek and contrite heart.

From the beginning, when the rebellion of darkness set itself against the kingdom of light, every human heart has been caught in that conflict. Yet in Christ, God has made a way to bring us back under His rule, out of death and into life. When you pray “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” you are asking for that ultimate reality to break in and overtake this present darkness.

Seeking first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, as you noted, aligns your heart with the truth that He is not a God you must carry, but the God who carries you. The idols of this age can do nothing but weigh you down, but the living God who holds your breath in His hand is the one who provides daily bread, forgives sins, and leads away from the snare of the evil one. And when you ask for forgiveness, remember it is a matter of the heart. If you ever find bitterness rising, ask Him to give you a spirit of forgiveness, because He commands it and He will provide the capacity if you are willing.

The prayer Jesus taught is the cry of those who know they have been made heirs of God’s own family. Through Him you are no longer a foreigner to the promises but a child called to share in the everlasting kingdom that will not be destroyed. So keep praying in this way, confident that the King who is coming again will establish His dominion in full. As you ask for daily bread and deliverance, you do so not as a beggar outside the gates, but as a son or daughter who has been washed, cleansed, and given a place at the table. His kingdom, power, and glory are forever. Amen.
