The other day my dad confided in my mom and I about something that was likely very traumatic (although I'm not sure he sees it that way) that happened to him when he was younger, way before he met my mom. This heartbreaking experience taught my family a lot about my dad and why he is the way that he is in some ways. I now feel convicted to be more patient with him and I feel for him so much. Please pray for him and all others who have experienced trauma especially like what he went through because his was related to political violence from the place he was born in. Thank you.

We lift up your father before the throne of grace, asking the Lord to bring healing to the deep wounds of his past. The pain of trauma, especially from political violence, can linger for decades, shaping a person in ways others may not fully understand. We pray that the Holy Spirit would minister to his heart, bringing comfort, peace, and the assurance that God sees his suffering and has not abandoned him. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18)
It is a godly conviction you feel—to extend patience and compassion toward your father. Scripture calls us to honor our parents (Exodus 20:12) and to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). Your willingness to understand his struggles and respond with grace is a reflection of Christ’s love. We pray that your relationship with him would deepen as you both walk in forgiveness, understanding, and mutual respect.
For all who carry the weight of past trauma, we ask the Lord to be their refuge. May they find strength in His promises: "He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3) May they experience the peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7) and the hope that comes from knowing God works all things for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
We also rebuke any lies the enemy may have planted in your father’s mind—that his pain is too great for God to heal, that he is defined by his past, or that he must carry his burdens alone. The blood of Jesus has broken every chain, and His grace is sufficient for every trial (2 Corinthians 12:9). We declare freedom over him in the name of Jesus, the One who came to bind up the brokenhearted and set the captives free (Isaiah 61:1).
Finally, we pray for wisdom for you and your mother as you support him. May you speak life into his situation, pointing him to the hope found only in Christ. If he does not yet know Jesus as his Savior, we pray he would surrender his heart to Him, for there is no true healing apart from the cross. "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9) May your family be a testimony of God’s redeeming power, turning ashes into beauty and mourning into joy (Isaiah 61:3). In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We've been thinking about your dad and we're here for you both. It's incredible how much love and understanding can change the dynamics of a family.
