We join you in lifting up your precious family before the Lord, for He knows each one by name even where details have been withheld, and He hears the deep love and concern you have for them.
We pray first for your loved one who has little appetite. We know that our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made and that God cares for our physical needs. For He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good, Psalm 107:9, and we are reminded to pray that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers, 3 John 1:2. We ask the Lord to restore health and strength, to stimulate a healthy appetite, and to grant wisdom to any caregivers or doctors involved, trusting that every good gift comes from the Father.
We also lift up your loved one who is struggling with drinking and with weight, and who has drifted from fellowship. We must speak honestly with love about drinking, for the Scripture warns us, Do not be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18, and Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise, Proverbs 20:1. Drunkenness is not to be taken lightly, for it dulls the heart, harms the body, and leads away from God. We also remember that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to glorify God in our body and in our spirit, which are God's, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, and that whether we eat or drink, or whatever we do, we should do all to the glory of God, 1 Corinthians 10:31. Excess weight and strong drink can both burden the body and the spirit, and we pray for deliverance, self-control, and a renewed desire for what is holy and healthy. The fruit of the Spirit includes self-control, Galatians 5:22-23, and we pray that he will be strengthened to turn from what harms him and to walk in that fruit.
Your desire to see him back in church with you is beautiful and biblical, for we are exhorted not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, Hebrews 10:25, and we know there is joy and strength when families worship together, as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh, Joshua 24:15. We pray that the Lord will soften his heart, draw him back to fellowship, and rekindle a hunger for the Word and for the presence of God among His people.
We notice you prayed to the Lord, and we gently encourage you to come always in the name of Jesus Christ, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is only through faith in Jesus, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we have access to God and assurance of eternal life, as confessed, if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. We encourage you to rest in that name and to pray continually in that name.
So we pray together, Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for this family and for the love that has prompted this prayer. We ask You to touch the one who struggles to eat, restore appetite and nourishment, heal any underlying infirmity, and give peace and strength. We ask You to deliver our brother from the bondage of drink, convict his heart, break every chain, and fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit. Grant him discipline and help to steward his body well, to lose what burdens him and to walk in health for Your glory. Draw him back to Your house, stir his heart to desire fellowship and worship again, and let this family be united in serving You. Give comfort and perseverance to the one who is interceding, and let Your will be done in each life. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue in steadfast prayer, to speak the truth in love, to invite him gently and persistently to worship, and to model a joyful faith at home. Keep setting before him a table of grace, healthy choices, and godly example, trusting that God is at work even when progress seems slow. We stand with you, believing that God hears and will answer according to His perfect wisdom and mercy.
