It is not the storm outside that troubles the soul, but the tempest within. If you call upon God to bind you together in patience and love, be sure that He hears, for He is the God of patience and consolation, and He grants the very grace you seek. But do not wait for the calm to come before you change your own mind. Order the soul aright now, and even in the midst of waves you will stand upon a clear calm. For confusion arises not from what befalls us, but from the infirmity of our minds. The sky itself does not turn black in a storm; it is the clouds that gather and hide its brightness. So let your family be a heaven, high and far from the earth, pure and spotless, and let the clouds of tribulation pass beneath you. You have the Sun of Righteousness; let Him shine in your midst.

This unity you pray for is the very work of love, and love is known not merely by patient endurance but by a heart enlarged toward one another. Make room for each other, as the Apostle says. Do not merely tolerate the presence of kindred, but welcome them with the warmth of holy hospitality, for some have entertained angels unawares. When the heart is enlarged by love, there is no straitness, no crowding out. And if you feel the sharp edge of reproach or weariness within your own walls, recall that the Scripture was given that through patience and comfort we might have hope. Patience brings forth hope, and hope patience, and both are the gift of God to those who seek with a sincere and humble cry.

Therefore, do not be offended or confounded by the pressure of these days. The Lord warned that tribulations would come, but He also promised that the word of the gospel would be preached in all the world and that His own would live above the things that frighten. You have asked for unity, patience, and love, and these are precisely the weapons that render the tempest powerless. Show forth the patience that becomes the saints, and the dangers will not prevail over you. Strive together for this: that your family may be minded toward one another even as toward oneself, according to Christ Jesus. This is the love that surpasses mere natural affection. It is the love of the children for a father, a debt of honor that also heals the giver. And know that when you thus love and support one another, you are not merely waiting for the storm to end; you are already standing above it, in the clear heaven where Christ dwells, and your common life becomes a witness to all nations. Press on, then, and let the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like-minded, that with one mouth you may glorify the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The cry of your heart for your family reaches the throne of grace. When a storm presses in, the longing for unity, patience, and love is the Spirit’s own work, drawing you toward the very essence of what God is. He is love, not in a shallow or sentimental way, but in the deepest, giving, selfless reality. That is the kind of love He pours into us.

This love, the agape love, is not something you have to manufacture through strain or sheer willpower. It is born of God. It is His nature flowing through those who are born again. So when you ask Him to bind your family together, you are really asking for more of His presence, because where He dwells, love dwells. And where His love dwells, patience is shaped. Suffering long and being kind are not just ideals; they are the very definition of this love at work in human hearts. The storm is the very place where this love is perfected, where it is made complete in you as you lean upon Him together.

Remember, this love does not begin with your efforts to love God or even each other. It begins with His love for you. That is the solid rock. The Father loved you first, before you could offer Him anything. His love is uncaused by your goodness and it cannot be quenched by the storm’s fury. When you feel the waves, do not look at the strength of your own grip on each other. Look instead at the strength of His grip on all of you. As you abide in that love, as you let the truth of His love for you be the anchor of your souls, you will find a patience and a support for one another that goes beyond your natural reserves. You will find the ability to love not just in words, but in deed: in the quiet acts of bearing one another's burdens, in speaking gently when words are hard, and in offering the grace you have so freely received.

This trial is not the enemy of your unity. It is the tool in the Master’s hand to forge it. The God of patience uses the wait, the pressure, and the uncertainty to establish your hearts in a hope that does not disappoint. So be solid in your faith, solid in this love that comes from Him, and solid in patience. Support each other by walking in that love. Let the family bond be a living demonstration of the love of God. In the middle of the fiery trial, His left hand is under your head, and His right hand embraces you. He is holding you, and in Him, you can hold onto one another.

Let us go to the Father now, echoing your prayer with this deep, abiding confidence.

Lord, we thank You for the love we have experienced through Jesus Christ. Our hearts are often weak, and our patience runs thin, but You are the God of all patience and consolation. Pour out Your agape love into this family by the Holy Spirit. Let that love be the unbreakable cord that binds them together, a love that suffers long, that is kind, that believes and hopes in Your goodness through every fierce gale. May their home be a sanctuary of that divine love, where every member knows they are cherished, supported, and secure, not because the storm has ceased, but because You are in the midst of them. Fill them with Your love, Lord, until it flows out in tangible deeds of patience and grace toward one another. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
