Disciple of Prayer
Pray for my family, two brothers living together, both struggle a lot with depression. Both have children too, and they’re all having a very difficult time with finances and many other things. They live in my mom’s house, and my mom has threatened to kick them all out because they don’t have work. It’s also winter here. Please pray God restore them and their relationships. Their daughters, one of their daughters is in a lesbian relationship, pray she gets out of that relationship and heals from it.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your family in prayer. The struggles you describe—depression, financial hardship, strained relationships, and the cold grip of winter—are burdens no one should carry alone. We stand with you in faith, believing that God hears our cries and is moved by compassion for His children. The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." We cling to this promise for your brothers, their children, and your mother, knowing that God sees their pain and is already at work.

First, we must address the situation with your brothers living together. Scripture is clear that while we are called to love and support one another, we are also called to live in a manner that honors God. In 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, we read, "For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God." Living together outside of marriage is not God’s design, and it can bring unnecessary strain and temptation into their lives. We pray that they would seek God’s wisdom in this area, perhaps considering separate living arrangements that honor Him, even if it means temporary hardship. We also pray for your mother, that God would give her wisdom, patience, and a heart of compassion as she navigates this difficult situation. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." May she find the strength to speak truth in love, rather than in frustration or anger.

The depression your brothers are facing is a heavy burden, and we lift them up to the Lord, asking for His healing touch. Depression can feel like a dark cloud that never lifts, but we serve a God who is light in the darkness. Psalm 40:1-2 says, "I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand." We pray that God would lift them out of this pit, restore their hope, and give them the strength to seek help—whether through prayer, counseling, or medical support. We also pray for their children, that they would know God’s love and protection even in the midst of their parents’ struggles. May they find stability, peace, and joy in Him.

The financial strain your family is experiencing is another area where we cry out to God for provision. Philippians 4:19 assures us, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." We pray that God would open doors of opportunity for your brothers to find work, that He would provide for their needs in miraculous ways, and that your mother’s heart would be softened to extend grace and patience during this season. We also pray for wisdom in managing what they do have, that they would trust God to meet their needs rather than relying on their own understanding.

Now, we must address the heartbreaking situation with your niece in a lesbian relationship. This is not God’s design for her life, and we grieve over the spiritual and emotional bondage she is experiencing. Romans 1:26-27 warns us, "For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error." Homosexuality is a sin, but we must remember that God’s heart is always for repentance, healing, and restoration. We pray that your niece would come to know the truth of God’s Word, that the Holy Spirit would convict her heart, and that she would turn away from this relationship. We also pray for her healing—emotionally, spiritually, and relationally. Many who struggle with same-sex attraction have deep wounds or unmet needs that have led them down this path. May God reveal His love to her in a powerful way, showing her that true fulfillment is found only in Him.

We also pray for the rest of the family, that they would not be drawn into enabling or accepting this sin but would instead stand on God’s truth with love and compassion. Ephesians 4:15 tells us to "speak the truth in love," and that is our prayer for your family. May they have the courage to address this issue with grace, pointing your niece toward the freedom and wholeness found in Christ.

Finally, we must emphasize the importance of salvation through Jesus Christ. If any member of your family does not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they are lost and in need of the hope that only He can provide. John 14:6 says, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" We pray that each person in your family would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, repenting of their sins and surrendering their lives to Him. Without Jesus, there is no true healing, no lasting peace, and no eternal hope. We pray that the Holy Spirit would draw them to Himself, that they would experience the transformative power of the Gospel, and that their lives would be forever changed.

Let us now lift up this family in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of compassion for this family. Lord, You see their struggles—depression, financial hardship, strained relationships, and the weight of sin that has entered their lives. We ask that You would move mightily on their behalf, bringing healing, provision, and restoration.

Father, we pray for these two brothers, that You would lift the heaviness of depression from their hearts. Give them hope, Lord, and help them to see that You are their strength in weakness. Open doors for them to find work, and provide for their every need according to Your riches in glory. Soften their hearts to receive help and to walk in a manner that honors You, including in their living situation.

We pray for their children, Lord, that they would know Your love and protection. Guard their hearts and minds, and help them to find stability and joy in You, even in the midst of their parents’ struggles.

Father, we lift up this young woman caught in a lesbian relationship. We ask that You would break the chains of sin in her life, that she would see the truth of Your Word, and that she would turn away from this relationship. Heal her heart, Lord, and show her the beauty of Your design for love and relationships. Give her family the courage to speak truth in love, and help them to point her toward You.

We also pray for the grandmother, Lord. Give her wisdom, patience, and a heart of compassion. Help her to extend grace while standing firm on Your truth. May her words and actions reflect Your love, even in difficult circumstances.

Most importantly, Lord, we pray that each member of this family would come to know You as their Savior. Draw them to Yourself, convict them of their sins, and lead them to repentance. May they experience the life-changing power of the Gospel and find true hope in You.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved. Amen.
