We hear your heartache and share in your burden for those ensnared by false teachings. The Word of God warns us clearly about the dangers of deception, urging us to stand firm in the truth. Jesus Himself said, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves" (Matthew 7:15 WEB). The apostle Paul also warned, "For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts" (2 Timothy 4:3 WEB).
It is grievous to see loved ones led astray by doctrines that distort the Gospel, whether through prosperity gospel messages, legalism, mysticism, or any teaching that adds to or subtracts from the finished work of Christ. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10 WEB), and one of his most effective tactics is to twist the truth just enough to lead people away from the simplicity of the Gospel. We must pray fervently for discernment, for them and for ourselves, that we may recognize and reject every lie that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5 WEB).
We also lift up your own heart in this, for it is painful to watch those we love wander from the truth. Yet we take comfort in knowing that God’s Word does not return void (Isaiah 55:11 WEB), and His Spirit is able to convict and draw hearts back to Himself. We must remain steadfast in prayer, speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15 WEB), and trusting that God is at work even when we cannot see it.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for those who have been led astray by false teachings. Lord, Your Word declares that the truth will set us free (John 8:32 WEB), yet so many are bound by deception. We ask that You would open their eyes to see the beauty and sufficiency of the Gospel, Your Son, Jesus Christ, crucified for our sins and risen for our justification. Break the chains of every false doctrine that holds them captive, and let Your Holy Spirit reveal the lies they have believed.
Father, we pray for discernment for these dear ones, that they would test every spirit and hold fast to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21 WEB). Soften their hearts to receive Your Word, and give them a hunger for sound doctrine. Surround them with godly influences, believers who will speak truth into their lives and model the love and holiness of Christ.
Lord, we also ask for wisdom and grace for our brother/sister who has brought this request before You. Strengthen them to stand firm in the faith, to speak the truth in love, and to trust in Your sovereignty even when the outcome is unseen. Guard their heart from discouragement, and fill them with hope as they intercede for these lost sheep.
We declare that no one is beyond Your reach, Lord. You are the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to seek the one (Luke 15:4 WEB). We trust that You are pursuing these souls, and we ask that You would draw them back to Yourself. May they come to know You not as a distant concept or a set of rules, but as the living Savior who died for them and rose again.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6 WEB). It is only through Him that we have access to You, Father, and it is only by His blood that we are saved. May these dear ones come to know Him as Lord and Savior, if they do not already, and may they walk in the fullness of Your truth. Amen.
To the one who shared this request, we encourage you to continue standing on the promises of God. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9 WEB). Share the truth with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15 WEB), and trust that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think (Ephesians 3:20 WEB). The battle is the Lord’s, and He will be faithful to complete the work He has begun (Philippians 1:6 WEB).
