False teachings

We hear your heartache and share in your burden for those ensnared by false teachings. The Word of God warns us clearly about the dangers of deception, urging us to stand firm in the truth. Jesus Himself said, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves" (Matthew 7:15 WEB). The apostle Paul also warned, "For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts" (2 Timothy 4:3 WEB).

It is grievous to see loved ones led astray by doctrines that distort the Gospel, whether through prosperity gospel messages, legalism, mysticism, or any teaching that adds to or subtracts from the finished work of Christ. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10 WEB), and one of his most effective tactics is to twist the truth just enough to lead people away from the simplicity of the Gospel. We must pray fervently for discernment, for them and for ourselves, that we may recognize and reject every lie that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5 WEB).

We also lift up your own heart in this, for it is painful to watch those we love wander from the truth. Yet we take comfort in knowing that God’s Word does not return void (Isaiah 55:11 WEB), and His Spirit is able to convict and draw hearts back to Himself. We must remain steadfast in prayer, speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15 WEB), and trusting that God is at work even when we cannot see it.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for those who have been led astray by false teachings. Lord, Your Word declares that the truth will set us free (John 8:32 WEB), yet so many are bound by deception. We ask that You would open their eyes to see the beauty and sufficiency of the Gospel, Your Son, Jesus Christ, crucified for our sins and risen for our justification. Break the chains of every false doctrine that holds them captive, and let Your Holy Spirit reveal the lies they have believed.

Father, we pray for discernment for these dear ones, that they would test every spirit and hold fast to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21 WEB). Soften their hearts to receive Your Word, and give them a hunger for sound doctrine. Surround them with godly influences, believers who will speak truth into their lives and model the love and holiness of Christ.

Lord, we also ask for wisdom and grace for our brother/sister who has brought this request before You. Strengthen them to stand firm in the faith, to speak the truth in love, and to trust in Your sovereignty even when the outcome is unseen. Guard their heart from discouragement, and fill them with hope as they intercede for these lost sheep.

We declare that no one is beyond Your reach, Lord. You are the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to seek the one (Luke 15:4 WEB). We trust that You are pursuing these souls, and we ask that You would draw them back to Yourself. May they come to know You not as a distant concept or a set of rules, but as the living Savior who died for them and rose again.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6 WEB). It is only through Him that we have access to You, Father, and it is only by His blood that we are saved. May these dear ones come to know Him as Lord and Savior, if they do not already, and may they walk in the fullness of Your truth. Amen.

To the one who shared this request, we encourage you to continue standing on the promises of God. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9 WEB). Share the truth with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15 WEB), and trust that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think (Ephesians 3:20 WEB). The battle is the Lord’s, and He will be faithful to complete the work He has begun (Philippians 1:6 WEB).

It’s so painful to watch someone we care about get pulled into teachings that quietly lead them away from what is true and life-giving, and when it’s several people, that sorrow compounds quickly. We’ve felt that aching helplessness too.

One thing we keep coming back to is that when people are deeply invested in a group or a set of ideas, arguing often hardens their resolve. What we can offer instead is the gift of unhurried listening, not to approve, but to keep the relationship safe and the conversation open. When we ask curious, gentle questions like “What do you find most compelling about that?” or “What need does this meet for you?” we sometimes learn what’s really driving the pull, and in that space we earn the right to be heard later. A patient, steady friendship that doesn’t demand immediate change can be a quiet, powerful witness to the Jesus they’re mishearing.

Maybe you could pick one of these people and simply create a low-pressure moment to listen. You don’t have to have all the answers; your genuine presence can be a lifeline.

We pray: Lord Jesus, we bring these loved ones before You now, each one tangled in confusion they don’t fully see. You are gentle and You are truth. Guard them from lasting harm, untangle the lies, and let the real You become unmistakably clear to their hearts. Grant our friend steady hope, wisdom for when to speak and when to stay quiet, and the reassurance that You are actively pursuing them even now. In Your name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is indeed a grief to see those we love entangled in falsehood, and your sorrow is shared by many who watch souls wander from the truth. Yet we must not despair as those without hope, for our God is mighty to save. The darkness that blinds the mind is no match for the Light of the World. Remember, it is written that the Father has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. What He has done for us, He can do for them.

Therefore, let us not cease to cry out for these precious ones, for there is a Deliverer who can snatch them from the very brink of the pit. Even when the soil slips from under their feet and they are wrapped in shadows, He can speak, and the lock of giant despair will turn. The false teachings that hold them captive are but the devil’s insinuations, arrows from the Evil One; but prayer is the shield that quenches all such fiery darts. We must be careful not to give a tongue to our unbelief by speaking as if their case is hopeless. Rather, let faith declare, “They shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.”

Plead the blood of Jesus over them, for the great ransom He has paid covers all sin and error for those who will look to Him. Ask that the Holy Spirit would make them zealous and repent, stripping away every false comfort until they rest in Christ alone. The world’s wells are broken cisterns, but there is a fountain opened for sin and uncleanness. May they be brought to drink of those living waters and find that He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. Continue in prayer, not fearing, for He who keeps you will keep them also, if they are among His hidden ones. And what a mercy if even one is brought forth with silver and gold, made rich in faith, and set singing among the tribes of the delivered.

How deep the sorrow when those we love are led astray by falsehood, yet do not let your heart be wholly cast down. The devil does not attack where truth has not first been sown; after the prophets came false prophets, after the apostles false apostles, and now after the gospel he privately sows his own inventions to choke what was planted. This is his craft, and it should drive us not to despair but to prayer.

Yet beware of trusting too much in your own understanding or their arguments. Peter said, "Though all should be offended, yet will I never," and his fall became a lesson for us all. Where he should have prayed, "Help us, that we be not cut off," he relied on his own strength. Christ permitted his denial so that he might learn to believe Christ in all things. So then, do not think you can reason them back by subtlety alone; rather, plead with God earnestly. For even Paul did not say, "What need have I of prayer?" Though he was great, he knew his need. If we wake, we need not others' help entirely, but if we sleep, even the prayers of saints profit little. Be on the alert yourself, and beseech the Lord for them with humility, not exalting your own wisdom.

Speak truth to your neighbor, for we are members one of another, and nothing breeds enmity like deceit. But let your words be seasoned with warmth of affection, not anger or bitterness. Honor them, love them with brotherly love, and strive to outdo them in showing honor. For a pure life, full of the fruit of the Spirit, goodness, righteousness, truth, will silence mouths far more than any sign. When they see your light without hypocrisy, their false teachings will be exposed by your very life.

Do not cease to pray, for Christ Himself, who raised the dead by a word, prayed when calling Lazarus, teaching us that in the lesser works we too must look up to Heaven. This is not weakness, but a pattern. Pray that the Spirit of truth would bring all things to their remembrance and lead them back. Remember that He said His departure was expedient, that the Comforter might come and make them spiritual. So trust in the Spirit’s power, and let your tears become alms for their souls.

This is a worthy object of prayer: that after being lost, they might find the way of repentance. Do not grow weary. In the end, truth stands, and falsehood is but for a time.

It is heartbreaking to watch someone you care about drift into deception, especially when you see the emptiness of the path they are on. The grief is real, and it is right to bring that burden before the Lord. False teaching rarely announces itself with a sign. It gains a hearing by dressing itself in enough truth to sound familiar, even beautiful. But somewhere in the fine print, it twists the person and work of Jesus Christ. It might diminish His deity, add requirements to His finished work, or promise a freedom that simply leads deeper into bondage. That is why the apostles were so urgent in their warnings: wolves come in sheep’s clothing, using love language and Scripture, yet leading souls away from the only One who is the way, the truth, and the life.

The sorrow you feel is not for those already safe with the Lord, but for those who are still wandering, a coin of no use because it is lost, a sheep that has strayed. Yet remember the Shepherd who goes after the one. Jesus said He came to seek and save that which was lost. That same heart now beats in His people. So do not lose hope. The truth endures forever, and it is powerful enough to break the spell of even the most persuasive error.

Pray specifically that the light of the gospel would pierce whatever blindness the enemy has cast over their eyes. Ask that the Holy Spirit would search them out as a woman sweeping a house for a lost coin, and that they would come to the knowledge of the truth. The truth that there is one God, and one mediator, the man Christ Jesus. Not every road leads to God, no matter how sincere the traveler.

As you pray, keep walking in that truth yourself. There is a joy that comes when we see others abiding in it, and a deep consolation in knowing that God’s Word will not return empty. You can sow seeds of truth in love, always ready with gentleness to point back to the simplicity of the gospel, Christ crucified, risen, and returning. The false teacher eventually reveals his bottom line; be patient, stay grounded, and trust the Lord to open their ears to His call. He is still seeking the lost, and He hears your prayer.
