Falling short

Praise be to God. Let God be praised in your prayers; and today, I am only asking for forgiveness from Him. I am a sinner and just a human and I do not deserve everything that he is giving me on a sliver plate. I realized that lately I have attached God's good deeds in my life to my obedience too much but as I have seen I have fallen short again and all that's left in my mind is that I don't deserve the goodness of God. I only want to be thankful to Him and to let Him use me as he wants on this planet. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We hear the humility in your words and the brokenness of a heart that has seen its own frailty in the light of God’s holiness. You are right to confess that you have fallen short, for Scripture tells us, "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Yet even in this, there is grace, God does not turn away the repentant heart. Your realization that His goodness is not earned by your obedience, but freely given by His mercy, is a mark of spiritual maturity. The danger of tying God’s blessings to our performance is that it can lead to either pride in our successes or despair in our failures. Both are snares of the enemy, who seeks to distort the truth of the Gospel.

You say you do not deserve His goodness, and in one sense, that is true. None of us do. But the wonder of the Gospel is that God gives it anyway. "But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ, by grace you have been saved" (Ephesians 2:4-5). His love is not a reward for our righteousness; it is the source of it. When we grasp this, our response should not be self-loathing, but awe-filled gratitude. You are not called to wallow in your unworthiness, but to rise in worship, knowing that His grace is sufficient for you.

We must also gently address a concern in your words: you did not mention the name of Jesus in your request until the closing amen. While your heart is clearly seeking God, we must remind you, and ourselves, that there is no access to the Father except through the Son. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me" (John 14:6). It is not enough to seek "God" in a general sense; we must come to Him through the blood of Christ, for "there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Do not let familiarity with the name of Jesus dull its power in your prayers. Every request, every confession, every cry for mercy must be brought to the Father in His name, for it is only by His sacrifice that we are made clean.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, Your Son, our Savior. We lift up our brother/sister who has come with a humble and contrite heart, acknowledging their sin and their need for Your mercy. Lord, we thank You that You do not treat us as our sins deserve, but You lavish Your grace upon us. Forgive them, Father, for the times they have measured Your love by their own obedience. Remind them that Your goodness is not a wage, but a gift, freely given, freely received.

We rebuke the lie that they are unworthy of Your love, for while it is true that none of us deserve it, You have chosen to call us Your children. Help them to walk in the freedom of Your grace, not the bondage of their failures. Teach them to abide in Christ, so that their gratitude may overflow in obedience, not out of a desire to earn Your favor, but out of love for the One who first loved them.

Father, we ask that You would use them powerfully for Your kingdom. Break off any chains of self-condemnation or pride that would hinder their witness. Fill them with the Holy Spirit, that they may walk in step with You, bearing fruit that glorifies Your name. Let their life be a living testament to Your mercy, that others may see and be drawn to You.

We pray all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.

Be encouraged, dear one. The fact that you are grieved over your sin is evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in your life. Do not despise the conviction of God, for it is the pathway to repentance and restoration. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). You are not defined by your failures, but by the finished work of Christ on the cross. Walk in that truth today. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith, and let His grace be the foundation of your life. You are not called to be perfect, but to be His, and that is enough.

We hear the ache in your words, the weight of feeling you’ve failed again and don’t deserve God’s goodness. That very ache itself shows a heart that genuinely loves Him. We’ve been there too, sitting in the tension of knowing we fall short while also knowing He keeps giving gifts we didn’t earn.

What helps us when we get stuck in that place is remembering that God’s kindness was never tied to our performance. From the very beginning, His love has been a pure gift, given because of who He is, not because we got it right. So when you realize you’ve attached His goodness to your obedience, it’s actually a mercy to have that false link broken. It clears the way for simple, childlike thanks rather than anxious scorekeeping.

A small, grounding practice we’ve seen bear fruit: each morning, before you even get out of bed, picture yourself standing before God with empty hands and just say aloud one thing you’re grateful for from the previous day. No measuring, no listing failures, just a concrete thank you. Let that be your first move rather than immediately reviewing where you fell short. Over time, that can reshape the whole day’s rhythm from self-critique to grateful dependence.

We’re praying with you now:

Father, thank You that Your goodness isn’t fragile or conditional. When we feel most unworthy, anchor us in the truth that Jesus has already secured our place with You. Quiet the voice of accusation, and lift our friend’s eyes from their own performance to Your steady, generous hand. Give them a new daily habit of simple thanks, and let them rest today in Your love that never depends on their perfection. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

All the road from sin's pit to Heaven's gate is paved with Divine Grace alone, and it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. You perceive the snare into which you had stepped: you tied God's goodness to your own obedience, and now that you have fallen short, the enemy whispers you deserve nothing. But this is the very hour for unconditional surrender, yield every proud pretension and conceited claim, and say, "Lord, I own Thee now to be King; I submit myself to Thy way of saving me, which is by grace, not by my merits, by the blood of Jesus, not by my tears or my trying."

There is forgiveness. Let this whisper drive away despair! Where God draws no limit, do not you draw any. There is forgiveness for the chief of sinners, and there is forgiveness now. The offense went up to God, and from that very place the forgiveness comes, there is forgiveness with Him. He not only forgave us at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one. This forgiveness is divine, it is eternal, it is absolute: the whole debt cancelled, oblivion promised to all your sins.

Take the absolution. Believe it for yourself. "I believe in the forgiveness of sins." Let your heart surrender to almighty love, and you will perceive the things freely given to you of God. He gives something from the flock, from the threshing floor, and from the winepress, He sets poor souls at liberty and sends them away full-handed. Grace for grace, grace upon grace. He giveth grace unto the humble, and there is forgiveness with Him, that He may be feared. Go your way, pardoned and free, to live in thankfulness and to be used as He wills.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You speak of falling short, and your mind tells you that you do not deserve the goodness of God. But see the snare: you have tied His blessings to your obedience as if they were wages, yet where grace is, works are not; where works are demanded, it is no more grace. The righteousness given in Christ is manifested apart from any deserving of yours, so that the one who merely receives forgiveness by grace is called blessed. Therefore, when you stumble, do not let shame drive you to despair, for to despair after sin is a greater evil than the sin itself, it is to forget the lovingkindness of Him who became poor that you through His poverty might become rich.

Let us not despair, though we sin every day; rather let us approach Him, entreating, asking forgiveness. This very act makes us more backward to sin afterward, drives away the devil, and calls forth mercy. And when you receive the goodness you do not deserve, do not torment yourself with unworthiness. Instead, let us have thankfulness. Gratitude for what we suffer, and even more for what we receive, is the mark of a soul that truly knows its Lord. A servant who murmurs over the hundred pence forgets the greater debt cancelled; but the heart that gives thanks, even in weakness, refuses to act as if grace were owed. So serve Him with reverence and godly fear, not as one earning a wage, but as one held by mercy. Go, then, offering your simple desire to be used, and leave the reckoning of deserving to Him who loves you.
