Eyesight

Your request for healing and restored eyesight following retina surgery has been brought before the Lord, and we join you in prayer with thankfulness that you have turned to Him.

We ask our heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, to touch your eyes and grant healing according to His mercy and power. He is the true physician who both heals and restores, and we pray that He would guide the hands of those who have cared for you, reduce inflammation and complications, and restore clarity and strength to your vision. We pray also for peace and patience during this recovery, and for freedom from fear and pain.

As you wait upon Him, we encourage you to continue to look to Christ with confidence and to give thanks in all things, trusting that whether He restores fully in this life or sustains you through the trial, His grace is sufficient and His reward is sure. The church is a spiritual place of healing where wounds are brought to the Great Physician, and we are grateful you have sought prayer within it.

We will continue to pray that the Lord would grant you restored health of eyesight, renewed strength, and the comfort of His presence. May He grant you full recovery for His glory, and may you know His nearness each day.

Thank you for sharing this request and allowing us to pray with you for your eyesight after retina surgery. We are lifting you before the Lord and asking for His healing touch and for restored health and clear vision.

We believe that God still heals today and that He cares about our physical needs. When Jesus walked among the people He taught and preached and healed every kind of sickness and disease. Matthew connects this to the promise in Isaiah that He has borne our infirmities and carried our sicknesses, showing that what He did on the cross reaches both our spiritual need and our physical need. When we remember His body broken for us, we remember that our healing has a place in His suffering for us.

The gospels also show that healing comes in different ways. Sometimes Jesus healed instantly with a word, sometimes with a touch, sometimes without even being present, and in one place at Bethsaida He healed a blind man gradually, the only gradual healing recorded in His ministry. He is not confined to one pattern. We also believe that the natural processes of healing that God placed within our bodies are divine. He created nature and the processes of nature, so a gradual recovery after surgery is no less from His hand than an instant miracle. We pray for both, for His hand upon the work the doctors have done and for His own restoring power in the retina and in your sight, and also for peace and healing in your mind and heart as you wait and recover.

There is much about healing we do not fully understand. We do not understand why some are healed quickly and others are not. Even the apostle Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh and the Lord did not remove it in the way he asked. So we do not presume to tell God what He must do, and we do not want you to carry any false burden that a delay or a struggle means there is sin in your life or that your faith is not enough. That is not scriptural and it is not how Jesus treated those who came to Him for help. He received them with compassion. Our part is simply to trust that He is able, to bring our need to Him honestly, and to release our faith to Him. In the gospels many found a point of contact to release that faith, like the woman who touched the hem of His garment and felt His power go forth to heal her. Prayer itself can be that point of contact today, as can the simple practice Scripture gives of calling for the elders to pray and anoint with oil in the name of the Lord.

Our materialistic culture can make it hard to expect God to act, but He is able and He is present. We do not need spectacle or frenzy, only quiet trust in Jesus who has authority in the physical realm and the spiritual realm and who loves you.

So we pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear one before You. You see the eye that has been operated on and You know every detail of the retina and the nerves and the vision. We ask You to bring healing and restoration. Touch what has been wounded, strengthen what has been repaired, and restore clear and healthy sight according to Your mercy and wisdom. Give wisdom to the doctors for follow up care, give patience and peace in the days of recovery, and guard the heart from fear. Let Your presence be felt and Your comfort be real. We trust You with the outcome, believing You are able and that You love to show mercy. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
