The prayer for restored eyesight after surgery rises not from a heart of unbelief, but from a soul that knows where healing truly dwells. Calvary is the place for the healing balm, and there is one sacred Fountain opened there, there is but one. Christ is the Physician, and Christ is the Medicine, too. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves, the smallest touch of His grace, are full of healing virtue. He lays His hand upon us and we are restored. His cool hand grasps our fevered hand, and as our frailty dissolves into Him, His health flows into us.
Yet this bodily frame groans for a time. The eye that has known the surgeon’s knife waits upon the Lord who formed it. He is able to heal, and there are seasons when His power to save is more than usually manifest, days of visitation, acceptable days. Even now, He is at His old work. He restores our entire manhood; every regenerated faculty grows strong when He is near. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, so let your soul drink in the teaching of Christ, for healing power is conspicuously present when He is teaching.
Remember this also: the same Lord who healed the palsied man first spoke pardon over him. Pardon and healing were one. When the Sun of Righteousness rises upon us, it is with healing in His wings. His salvation will perfectly heal our bodies, and we are on our way to eternal health. The sickness of an hour is little when we are sure of perfect health to come. Until that glory life begins, the abiding power of His healing leaves keeps the soul in perpetual health, and will keep you so, world without end.
The Lord has preserved you in accident and restored you from sickness before. Observe His hand in this. Do not go seeking some other way, some process by which you might work yourself right. All our healing lies in Christ. He took her by the hand and lifted her up, there was contact established. Oh, that glorious doctrine of the Incarnation! There is healing in it. If you believe in the Lord Jesus, He is in contact with you now. His healing virtue is not spent; it flows fresh from the tree of life which grows in the heaven of His presence. Wait upon Him with heedful hearing, with patient faith, with the quiet expectation that He who restores your soul a hundred times will not withhold the restoring touch from these eyes. And when health returns, as we trust it shall in His wise timing, rise and minister unto Him with gratitude.
The healing virtue which His grace has infused will work its cure. Amen.
