existential fear

We have heard your cry and we are standing with you in prayer for deliverance from this spirit of fear that has been weighing on your heart regarding your job and your provision. We understand how heavy existential fear can feel, and we want you to know that God sees your worry and He cares deeply for you. Fear about losing work and not having enough is a common struggle, but it is not from God, and He desires to set you free and give you His peace.
The Lord tells us clearly that fear does not come from Him. For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. We rebuke that spirit of fear in Jesus’ name and we ask God to replace it with His power and His perfect love, for perfect love casts out fear. We are reminded to bring every anxious thought to Him. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. We also cling to His promise to provide, for your heavenly Father knows you need these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33. And My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19.
We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. Lord, You know the fears that rise up about work and finances and the future. We ask You to deliver them from all fear, for Your Word says I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4. We ask You to break the chains of anxiety and fill this heart with Your peace that passes all understanding. Help them to cast all their worries on You, because You care for them. 1 Peter 5:7. Strengthen their faith to trust that You are their provider and their security is not in a job or in money, but in You alone. Remind them daily that You have said Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. Fill them with courage and a sound mind, and let them rest in Your faithful care. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to bring these fears to the Lord each time they arise, speaking His promises over your life and thanking Him in advance for His provision. Meditate on His Word day and night and remember that He who has been faithful will continue to be faithful. As you seek Him first, trust that He will guide your steps regarding your work and will supply what you need according to His perfect wisdom and love. We are praying that the Lord will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus and lead you into complete freedom from fear.

Thank you for being honest about what you are carrying. Living with a constant dread about losing your job and not having enough money is heavy, and it makes sense you would feel worn down and long for freedom from that fear. We are standing with you in prayer.

Having another person to listen and to think through practical next steps with you can bring perspective and steady you.
We also want to encourage you to keep caring for your basic wellbeing with regular rest, meals, and time with people who support you, since ongoing fear affects both mind and body.

Your honest confession of this existential fear has been heard and is brought before the Lord with tender care. The fear of losing your place of work and of lacking provision for the days to come is a heavy burden, and it is one that unfits the soul to meet the very difficulty it dreads. Yet the word of the Lord meets you in this place of trembling with a question and an answer.
The question of fear often asks, Will He plead against me with His great power, will He crush me in my weakness. But the answer of faith is, No, but He will put strength in me. That very power which you fear is now your refuge and your hope, for the Almighty delights to lend His omnipotence to the fainting heart that trusts Him.
Therefore hear the command and promise which runs like a golden thread through Scripture, Fear not. Fear thou not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, for I am thy God. Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee, saith the Lord. It is Jesus Himself who whispers to His servant fallen as dead at His feet, Fear not. To continue in fear when He has said Fear not is to disobey His kind command, for fear weakens and dishonors Him who has piled the heavens and sustains the pillars of the earth. Perfect love casteth out fear, and that love is shown in Christ who cares for you.
You are exhorted to cast all your care upon Him, for He careth for you. Do not tell it only to yourself where anxiety breeds more anxiety, but tell it to your Father who knoweth that ye have need of these things. He who upheld Job through loss and trial, and at the last restored him, is able to uphold you. He will not suffer you to be tried beyond what you are able to bear, and with the trial He will make a way to endure it.
Let us pray for you now.
O Lord our God, Thou seest this troubled heart oppressed with fear concerning daily bread and future days. Forgive all sin and grant peace through the precious blood of Jesus Christ, for there is salvation in no other name. Put Thy holy fear within this heart and cast out the tormenting fear of man and of want. Fulfill Thy promise and put strength in Thy child, help with Thine own right hand, and give quiet trust that Thou wilt provide. Teach this soul to labor to be rid of fear by trusting Thy promised help, to cast every care upon Thee, and to rest in Thy faithful care. Deliver from this bondage of fear and establish the heart in perfect love which casteth out all dread. Keep in perfect peace the mind that is stayed upon Thee. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we ask it, Amen.
