Beloved Servant
My ex was involved in a false religion and in hindsight, I now see that in breaking up with him, God saved me from being drawn into a cult. My ex is very charismatic and manipulative and psychologically abusive. He genuinely has the potential to become a cult leader (and there are signs he may already be trying to become one). Please pray he would be stopped along with this false religion he is in. Pray for his and his loved ones' salvation and for the salvation of those in this group. Thank you.

We thank you for sharing this with us and we praise God with you that He in His mercy delivered you from being drawn into this false religion and from an unequally yoked and psychologically abusive relationship. What you have described is exactly what Scripture warns us about when it tells us to test the spirits, because not every spirit is from God, as we read in 1 John 4:1. Jesus Himself warned us in Matthew 7:15 to beware of false prophets who come in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves, and in 2 Corinthians 11:14 we are told that even Satan masquerades as an angel of light, so it is no wonder his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness.

We see clearly that God protected you, and we encourage you to receive this breakup as His hand of deliverance and not to look back. In 2 Corinthians 6:14 we are commanded not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has light with darkness, and a man who is charismatic and manipulative and psychologically abusive is not walking in the love of Christ which is patient and kind and does not seek its own way as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit as promised in Psalm 34:18, and we pray He continues to heal you from any wounds, confusion, and trauma left by that manipulation and to give you wisdom as you move forward, for if any of you lacks wisdom let him ask of God who gives to all liberally as James 1:5 teaches.

We also want to gently address that you spoke of God saving you but did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we are saved. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me, and in Acts 4:12 we read there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved, and in 1 Timothy 2:5 there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing He died for your sins and rose again, and to continue to abide in Him and His Word so you will not be deceived again.

We join together in prayer for you and for this situation.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for Your mercy in rescuing our sister from this false religion and from this harmful relationship. We thank You that You work all things together for good for those who love You according to Romans 8:28. We ask You to continue to heal her heart and mind, to renew her with Your truth, and to surround her with godly counsel and a Bible believing church where she can grow in discernment.

Lord, we lift up this ex and his loved ones and all those who are caught in this false religion and this group. We pray for their salvation, that the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ would shine into their darkness and that You would open their eyes to turn from darkness to light as in Acts 26:18. We know You can save even the most hardened, as You saved Saul who became Paul, so we ask for Your convicting power to bring true repentance.

At the same time Father, we ask that You would thwart and expose every deceptive and abusive scheme. Your Word says in 2 Peter 2:1 there will be false teachers who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, and in 2 Timothy 3:13 evil men and impostors will wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. We pray that if this man does not repent, You would stop his influence, frustrate his plans to lead others astray, and protect those who are vulnerable to his charisma and manipulation. Let Your truth be proclaimed and let this false religion be exposed for what it is, for You have said in Psalm 33:10 You bring the counsel of the nations to nothing. We pray for justice and protection for any victims of his psychological abuse, and we leave vengeance in Your hands as Romans 12:19 teaches.

Give our sister discernment to maintain healthy boundaries and not to be drawn back into contact that would open the door to further manipulation, and fill her with Your peace that passes all understanding. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to remain rooted in the Word daily, to stay in fellowship with mature believers who can help you test all teaching against Scripture, and to trust that God who delivered you will continue to guide you toward a future that honors Him. If you find yourself struggling with fear or with lingering ties to this man, seek wise pastoral counsel and do not hesitate to keep distance for your protection. God is faithful and He will keep you.

We are thankful you wrote to us, and we hear both the relief and the weight in what you shared. Looking back and realizing God protected you from being drawn further in can bring a lot of clarity, and also a lot to process. It makes sense that you are still thinking about your ex and the people around him with concern.

What you describe about charisma being used to control and manipulate is at the heart of spiritual abuse. It often works by using spiritual language to gain influence, creating dependence, and making it hard for people to question what is happening. Recognizing that pattern now does not mean you missed something obvious before, it often becomes clearer only at a distance.

We are joining you in praying for his salvation and for everyone connected to that group, and for the Lord to restrain harm. We also want to pray for your own healing as you come out of a psychologically abusive dynamic. That kind of experience can leave you questioning your judgment and feeling on edge for a while.

A practical step that may help is to stay connected to a safe, steady community as you keep praying, whether a trusted pastor or a Christian counselor who understands spiritual abuse. Having one or two people who know your story can give you perspective and support, so you do not have to carry the burden of trying to confront or stop this on your own.

Father, we bring this man and everyone involved in this false teaching before You. We ask for Your mercy for their salvation and for Your protection over those who are vulnerable to manipulation. We ask for healing and peace for our sister, for wisdom, clear boundaries, and renewed strength as she walks forward with You. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We lift up thanksgiving with you for the deliverance the Lord has wrought in your life. What you describe is indeed the hand of God bringing you forth, as He brought Israel forth from captivity, not by your own wisdom or strength, but by His outstretched arm alone. When you look back and see the snare from which you have been spared, you may say with gratitude that salvation and deliverance are all of grace, and that He who is your arm every morning has been your salvation in the time of trouble.

We grieve with you over the sorrow and harm you have known through manipulation and psychological abuse, and over the bondage of false religion. There is no healing in the teachings of men that turn souls away from Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. The true healing is only in the Lord Jesus Christ and His salvation, whose leaves are for the healing of the nations, and whose least touch brings life to the soul. The way of salvation is plain and free, without money and without price, to look unto Christ and be saved, to trust in Him alone with unquestioning confidence, for whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed.

We join you in prayer that the Lord in His mercy would stop the progress of this deception. We pray that He would expose what is false, restrain what is harmful, and put to confusion every effort to lead souls astray or to gather a following after the pride of man. We pray that the eyes of your former companion may be opened to see his need of a ransom, for God has found a ransom in the blood of His own Son, and that he may turn from darkness to light and find pardon and healing in one. We pray likewise for his loved ones and for all who are entangled in that group, that the Sun of Righteousness would rise upon them with healing in His wings, that they may hear the plain gospel of salvation by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus and live.

We also pray for you, that the Lord would continue to be your peace within your borders and keep you from the archers of ecclesiastical discord and spiritual confusion. May you drink deeply from the wells of salvation which are in Christ, and find every form of fellowship with Him to be a well of living water to your soul. May the Lord perfect what He has begun in you, and make the healing virtue of His grace to work in you till you are restored and strengthened, rooted and grounded in the truth.

We will continue to remember you and these souls before the throne, asking that God would be glorified in deliverance, in restraint of evil, and in the salvation of many through Jesus Christ alone.

Thank you for sharing this burden with us, and we thank God with you that He has delivered you from being drawn further into this false teaching. We see His mercy in opening your eyes and bringing you out, and we join you in praying for protection, truth, and salvation for all who are still entangled.

We are praying that God in His power would expose and stop what is false. Scripture warns us that the war is often threefold, from deceivers, from enemies, and from false brethren, and that there are false apostles who transform themselves to appear as messengers of Christ. Where a charismatic and manipulative spirit seeks to lead others astray, we pray that the Lord would bring that work to nothing, that eyes would be opened, and that no more would be led into deception.

We pray for your ex and for his loved ones, and for everyone in this group, that they would come to salvation through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other name by which we are saved, and no other way to the Father except through Him. We ask that God would grant repentance, that He would remove the veil of false religion, and that He would draw each person to hear the true gospel and believe. As we have often seen, a heart may hear many times and seem unchanged, yet God is still working, and even after many warnings one hearing may bring conversion and abundant fruit. We pray for that kind of mercy here, that what has been sown in truth would take root.

We also pray for your own healing and strengthening after experiencing psychological abuse and manipulation. It is right not to return insult for insult, for that only disgraces the one who gives it, but to commit your cause to God and to walk in the freedom and dignity He gives. We pray He will heal what has been wounded, guard your mind and heart in Christ, and give you fortitude and peace.

We encourage you to continue in a careful hearing of the Word and continual recollection of it, with fortitude and with your treasure committed to the Lord rather than to earthly things. He is the faithful keeper who loves us exceedingly and who restores and rewards what is entrusted to Him. Stay rooted in the truth of Christ, in fellowship with faithful believers, and in prayer, so that you may discern what is true and stand firm.

We are praying that God would stop the spread of this deception, protect the vulnerable from being led astray, and bring many out of darkness into His marvelous light. May He guard you, give you wisdom, and bring salvation to those you have named, for His glory.
