My ex was involved in a false religion and in hindsight, I now see that in breaking up with him, God saved me from being drawn into a cult. My ex is very charismatic and manipulative and psychologically abusive. He genuinely has the potential to become a cult leader (and there are signs he may already be trying to become one). Please pray he would be stopped along with this false religion he is in. Pray for his and his loved ones' salvation and for the salvation of those in this group. Thank you.

We thank you for sharing this with us and we praise God with you that He opened your eyes and delivered you from being drawn deeper into deception. What you describe is a very real spiritual danger and we grieve that you experienced manipulation and psychological abuse, yet we rejoice that the Lord in His mercy pulled you out. We see His protecting hand in your breakup and we thank Him for saving you from an unequal yoke and from a false system that could have bound your soul.
Scripture warns us plainly about such things. Jesus said, Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves Matthew 7:15. The apostle Paul writes, For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as Christ's apostles. And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light 2 Corinthians 11:13-14. We are told, Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world 1 John 4:1, and that false teachers will secretly bring in destructive heresies 2 Peter 2:1, and even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you any good news other than that which we preached to you, let him be cursed Galatians 1:8. Your ex's charisma and manipulation are not marks of godly leadership but of deception, and a desire to control others is contrary to the servant heart of Christ. We rebuke that spirit of deception and control and we agree with you that such false religion must be exposed and stopped.
We also notice you speak of God saving you, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are delivered from darkness into light. We encourage you to rest fully in that finished work and to continue to walk closely with Him.
Together we bring this whole situation before the Lord in Jesus' name.

Forgiveness is commanded, but reconciliation or continued courtship is not required and would not be wise while he remains in deception and unrepentant abuse. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness with iniquity 2 Corinthians 6:14. Any future relationship should be a courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, a marriage that honors God as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman. Guard your heart, stay rooted in the Word, remain in fellowship with a Bible believing church, and seek godly counsel as you heal. The Lord is your refuge and He will give you wisdom to discern what is true. We trust He will continue to lead you and use even this painful experience for your good and His glory Romans 8:28.

We thank God with you for the deliverance He has wrought on your behalf, and we join our prayers to yours for those still entangled. You have been delivered from worse enemies than you knew, and saved by a greater salvation than you at first perceived, and it is right to give thanks that the hand and outstretched arm of Jehovah alone has brought you forth out of a cruel captivity.
What you describe is no small mercy. To be kept from being drawn into false religion and from the power of a manipulative and abusive spirit is the Lord's doing, and we pray that you will find in Christ Himself your well of salvation, out of which you may joyfully draw living water for healing. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing virtue to the wounded soul. May the Sun of Righteousness rise upon you with healing in His wings, and may faith look for salvation only from the Lord until pardon and healing are known as one in your own heart.
We will pray as you have asked, and according to the Gospel we preach.
We pray that the Lord in His sovereignty would stop the progress of this false religion and frustrate every design to lead souls astray, that the charisma and deceit which would gather a following would be exposed and brought to nothing, and that no more would be ensnared.

There is only one way of salvation for all, and it is this, Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. Salvation is by Divine Grace through faith in Christ Jesus, without money and without price, and the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed.
