Ex

Thank you for sharing so honestly about the pain you are carrying. It takes courage to be open about missing someone so deeply while also knowing you made a difficult but right decision.

What you did in ending a romantic relationship with someone who does not share faith in Jesus Christ was obedient and wise, even though it hurts. Scripture teaches us not to be bound together with unbelievers, because the two are not moving in the same direction. It is not only about marriage, but about any close yoke where two lives are tied together and must pull together. When one follows Christ and the other does not, you are always in an unequal position. You live by different standards and walk by a different ethic. What may not trouble his conscience will trouble yours, because you want to honor the Lord. The two ways of life do not truly blend, like oil and water they remain separate. Many people feel their situation is the exception and that love will be enough to overcome the difference, but God gives this command for our protection, and He calls His people to come out and be separate so that He can be a Father to us and we can walk closely with Him.

You also did wisely in stepping back from ongoing contact. When a bond has been that close, continued contact often keeps wounds open and makes it harder for either person to heal in a healthy way.

Your wish that God would somehow make a way for you to be together is understandable, and it is natural to feel that you need him when you miss him. Yet God will not bless or affirm a relationship that is outside His design. The right prayer is not for God to bless an unequal yoke, but for God to do His healing work in both of you and to bring each of you into His best will. Above all, that means praying for his salvation, that he would come to know Jesus Christ as Savior, because only in Christ do we have true life and hope. And it means praying for you, that God would heal your heart and teach you to find your need met in Him.

Healing is something God does, and He does it in many ways. Sometimes healing is immediate, sometimes it is gradual, like a process that takes time. Sometimes He heals with a touch, sometimes with a word, and He is not confined to one pattern. All true healing is from Him, whether it is of the body or of the mind and emotions. He can heal the scars and wounds left by loss and disappointment, even when we do not fully understand why healing comes in the way and timing that it does. It is not a sign that you lack faith or that you have failed if the ache remains for a while. Grief and missing someone takes time, and God is patient as He works that healing within you.

So we will pray for you and for him in a way that honors God. We pray that God would bring deep emotional and spiritual healing to both of you, that He would comfort you in the loneliness and give you strength to remain separate as you have chosen, and that He would draw your former boyfriend to Himself so that he might come to know Jesus. We pray that you will grow in knowing Christ more fully, that your need for companionship would be met first in your relationship with the Lord, and that in time God would lead you, if it is His will, to a relationship that is equally yoked and centered on Him.

If the feelings of missing him feel overwhelming, bring them honestly to the Lord in prayer, stay rooted in Scripture, and lean on fellowship with other believers who can support you and keep you accountable in this season. God sees your hurt, He cares about your future, and He is faithful to heal and to guide those who seek to walk in obedience to Him.
