Thank you for sharing this burden and for your love and concern for this man. We join you in praying for him, and we take seriously each part of your request.

Our greatest prayer for him is for his salvation, because that is the greatest miracle and the deepest need any person has. Scripture teaches that Jesus became the author of eternal salvation through His obedience to the Father all the way to the cross. Without the cross there would be no way for us to be saved. His very name means the Lord is salvation, and to confess Him as Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead is to receive eternal life. He is both the author and the finisher of our faith, the one who begins the work of salvation and completes it.

The Bible also says the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all people, and that now is the day of salvation. God is gracious and merciful, longsuffering and patient, not wanting anyone to perish. At the same time His Word urges us not to put off responding to Him, because today is the accepted time to receive what He offers. We will pray that while God is patiently drawing this man, he will not harden his heart but will respond to the Lord while there is opportunity, and that he will work out what God works within him with a sincere and reverent heart, not as an effort to earn salvation, but as the living out of a real salvation received by grace through faith.

You asked for prayer for his health in the midst of serious and life threatening problems. We will pray for his healing and for wisdom for those caring for him. Scripture shows that Jesus bore our infirmities and went about doing good and healing many, and we are right to bring physical needs to the Lord. It also shows that healing comes in different ways and according to God's wisdom. Sometimes healing is immediate, sometimes it is gradual, and sometimes, as with the apostle Paul and his thorn in the flesh, God in His sovereignty does not remove the affliction even after earnest prayer. Every healing process that God has built into our bodies is from Him, and all healing is ultimately from His hand, but physical healing is not promised in every case in this life. What is certain is that salvation is more important than physical healing, and whatever God chooses to do with his body, we pray He will use even this trial to open his eyes to his need for Christ.

You also asked for healing from trauma and for a wake up call to stop dysfunctional ways. That points to the need for true repentance. The Bible makes a clear distinction between a worldly sorrow that simply feels bad about consequences and a godly sorrow that leads to repentance and to salvation. True repentance is not just feeling sorry, it is a change of mind and direction that bears fruit in a changed life. It is a turning from the old life, like a death to what was, and a beginning of a new life. We will pray that God will grant him that kind of godly sorrow, that he will see his sin and his broken patterns honestly, not just weep over the pain they have caused, but turn to Christ for forgiveness and for power to walk differently. That change will be shown over time by the fruit of a transformed life.

We will pray that the Lord will graciously awaken him, heal what is wounded in his heart and mind in the way the Lord knows is best, restore his health if it is the Lord's will, and above all draw him to salvation through Jesus Christ alone. May God also give you peace as you entrust him to the Lord, and strength to continue praying with hope and discernment.
