Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray: I was over my ex who I broke up with because we are unequally yoked and he is not a Christian. But he contacted me this week and everything that happened sent me totally backward. I feel like I will never get over him. He kept saying I never really loved him. He can be manipulative (I believe he has a behavioral/emotional disorder) and he may have been manipulating me in saying that but it still HURT. Please pray. God has made it clear that Satan sent him into my life as a distraction. Thank you.

We hear your hurt and we thank you for sharing so honestly with us. We want to affirm you first for obeying God in ending a relationship that was unequally yoked because he is not a Christian. That was a painful but obedient and godly decision. Scripture says Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity, or what fellowship has light with darkness 2 Corinthians 6:14. When we choose to walk in obedience, even when our heart aches, God honors that obedience and He sees your sacrifice.

We also understand how disorienting and painful it is when contact is reestablished and old emotions flood back. You said you feel you will never get over him and that his words deeply hurt you. We want to gently rebuke that lie from the enemy, because with God you will heal and you will get over him as you keep your heart surrendered to Christ. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3 and Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. Your feelings are real but they are not your future. God has not left you in this place.

We also want to speak with love and clarity about the manipulation you experienced. To be told you never really loved him when you made a difficult decision out of obedience to God is not love, it is manipulation and an attempt to bring guilt and confusion. True love does not manipulate or coerce. Even if he does struggle with a behavioral or emotional disorder, that does not give permission for manipulative words or for you to remain entangled. We encourage you to guard your heart with great diligence. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life Proverbs 4:23. For your protection and for your healing, we encourage you together before the Lord to cut off unnecessary contact, to not answer messages that pull you backward, to seek accountability from a mature Christian sister or pastor, and to fill your mind with worship and the Word instead of revisiting old conversations. The enemy seeks to distract and divide, but Scripture tells us Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7. You rightly discerned that this distraction is from Satan, so we must close the door he is trying to reopen.

We also want to lovingly address something we noticed. You mentioned God and Satan in your request but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to remind you with great tenderness that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord. It is in His name that our prayers are heard and our hearts are healed.

We also want to encourage you about what lies ahead. Being a boyfriend or girlfriend in God's eyes is courtship with the goal of discerning marriage to another Christian believer, and marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that honors God. We pray that God will guard you from any fornication, which is any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, and we pray you will walk in purity as you wait for Him. If there was any sexual sin in that past relationship, we encourage you to bring it fully to the cross in repentance and receive His forgiveness, for God is faithful to cleanse us. Now as you heal, we pray you will look not for a partner but for a godly spouse, a man who loves Jesus first and who will lead you closer to Christ in marriage.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We lift up our sister to You and we thank You that You see her tears and You know the pain she feels. We ask You to heal her broken heart and to bind up her wounds. We ask You to quiet the hurtful words that still echo in her mind and to replace them with Your truth that she is loved, chosen, and valued by You. Lord, we ask You to give her strength to resist the enemy and to keep no contact where contact brings confusion and manipulation. Give her wisdom to set firm and loving boundaries and give her a community of believers to stand with her. We pray You would help her to forgive him as You have forgiven us, not to reopen the relationship but to release bitterness and to walk in freedom. We pray for this young man as well, that You would have mercy on him and draw him to salvation in Jesus if he does not know You. But we pray our sister will not be drawn back into an unequally yoked courtship. Lead her in Your peace that surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:7 and guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Prepare for her, in Your perfect timing, a godly husband who is a faithful believer, that together they may honor You in a Christ centered marriage. Help her to keep her eyes on You, to trust that You will bring her through this valley and that You have good plans for her future. We pray all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how hard this week has been for you, and how confusing it feels to have made a clear, faithful decision and then feel pulled backward by one conversation.

It makes sense that his words hurt so deeply, even when you can see they may have been meant to pull you back in. When someone says you never really loved them, it can stir guilt and second guessing, and leave you questioning what was real. Feeling like you will never get over him does not mean you have failed or lost your progress, grief often comes in waves and an unexpected contact can bring a lot of it back at once.

We are grateful you recognized this relationship was not the right path for you and that you are wanting to guard your heart going forward. One practical step that helps many people in this place is to put a clear boundary around contact before the next message comes. That might mean deciding now not to reply if he reaches out again, removing the message thread, and letting one trusted friend or mentor know so they can help you stay steady if he tries again. Having someone else in the loop makes it much harder to be drawn back into a manipulative conversation alone.

We are praying for you and with you.

Father, we lift our sister to You in her hurt and confusion. Comfort her where those words wounded her, steady her thoughts, and give her wisdom and strength to keep healthy boundaries in place. Remind her daily that You are near and that You will guide her step by step as she heals. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your hurt has been heard, and your desire to obey the Lord in this painful place is precious in His sight. To turn away from a relationship because you are unequally yoked together with an unbeliever is not unkindness, it is obedience to the precept, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, and though that yoke of Christ may have felt hard at first, to reject it would have brought a far heavier yoke in time. The Lord honors the step you took, even when the heart still aches for what was left behind.

It is no wonder that his words have sent you backward. When one who can be manipulative tells you that you never truly loved him, the accusation cuts deeply, even when you discern that it may be manipulation. The wound is real, and the enemy indeed uses such distractions to unsettle the soul. Yet the very sting you feel is a sign that your heart needs the Physician, not the return of the distraction.

Scripture says, He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ, not only in His great acts but in the least thing about Him, for the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. The smallest touch of Christ, the faintest apprehension of His love and pardon, has healing virtue to change the lifeblood and make the nature new again. What you feel now, that you will never get over him, is the voice of present sorrow, not the truth of Christ's power to heal. He who forgives sin also heals the sickness of the soul, and pardon and healing are joined together in His hand.

Do not hear his accusation as the verdict of God. Your love was shown in wanting what was holy and right before the Lord, and true love does not ask another to disobey Christ. If contact with him opens the wound and invites confusion and manipulation, it is wise and right to set a firm boundary and to keep it, seeking the counsel and watchful care of mature believers in your church who can walk with you and help you guard your heart.

May the Lord lift this burden and heal you fully, so that you may serve Him with a whole heart again, for healing must come before serving, and He delights to take the sick one by the hand and raise her up.

Let us pray for you. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, who alone is the way of salvation, we ask for Your pardoning and healing grace upon this dear one. Heal the broken heart and bind up the wound that has been reopened. Wash away the hurtful words that were spoken and let her hear instead Your voice of truth and love. Grant strength to stand firm in obedience, to be not unequally yoked, and to keep marriage and all that belongs to it within Your holy design of one man and one woman in lifelong covenant. Protect her from distraction and from the adversary's schemes, give discernment to recognize manipulation and courage to keep needful distance, and fill the empty place with Your own presence. Restore joy, renew hope, and let the healing leaves of Christ bring freshness and wholeness again, that she may walk in Your yoke which is easy and Your burden which is light. In Jesus name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this so honestly and for asking for prayer. I hear how painful this week has been, and how confusing it is to feel that you had moved forward and now feel pulled backward again. Your decision to end a relationship because you are unequally yoked was a faithful and difficult obedience to God, and it is right to honor that conviction even when emotions are still tender.

It is understandable that his words hurt you deeply. When someone says you never really loved him, especially someone who has learned how to use words to control or to wound, it can shake your heart. That accusation does not define the truth. Love in the Christian sense is not measured by staying in a relationship that pulls you away from Christ, but by wanting what is good and holy for the other person and by walking worthily of the calling God has given you, with lowliness and patience and love for God first. You can have cared for him sincerely and still have been right to step away because the foundation was not shared faith in Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation.

The feeling that you will never get over him is very common after contact is renewed, but it is not the end of the story. Healing is rarely a straight line. As one of the old teachings says, a desire can be like a cloud over the eye that keeps us from seeing clearly, and we recover sight when we learn how we were blinded and turn again to God for clear vision. God often makes it clear afterward why a distraction came, and then calls us to guard our sight. When we bear a loss thankfully and trust God with it, He is faithful to restore us, and even if He does not restore what was lost, He gives a greater reward in closeness to Himself.

It would be wise to protect the healing God has begun. That may mean limiting or ending contact so that you are not continually reopened to manipulation, and leaning on trusted Christian community, a pastor or mature believing women who can walk with you, pray with you, and help you keep boundaries. If you believe he struggles with patterns of manipulation or emotional instability, you can have compassion for him without allowing those patterns to direct your life. Pray for his good, that he would come to know Christ, but do not place yourself back under his influence to do so. Resist the enemy by submitting yourself to God, turning quickly to prayer and Scripture when the old thoughts return, and filling your mind with what is true.

I will pray for you now.

Father, I lift this sister to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Thank You that You have seen her obedience and her pain. Comfort her heart where she has been wounded by harsh words and confusion. Heal the hurt and quiet the lie that she will never be whole again. Give her clear sight to see this relationship as You see it, and strength to walk worthily of Your calling with humility and patience. Guard her from manipulation and from the distraction of the enemy, and help her to stand firm in Your truth. Surround her with faithful believers who will bear with her in love and keep her accountable. Restore to her joy in You, and in Your time, according to Your will, lead her in the path You have for her life. Make her more and more rooted in Christ, her only hope of salvation, and help her to trust that You will supply all she needs. Amen.

Keep bringing your heart to the Lord each day, even in short prayers, and keep His word before you. If the contact continues to unsettle you, seek counsel from a pastor soon and let others help you hold the boundary. God is near to the brokenhearted and He will not leave you without help.

Thank you for sharing so honestly about what you are going through, and for asking for prayer. The pain you are feeling after that contact is real, and it makes sense that you feel set back. Wanting to move forward and then suddenly feeling pulled backward does not mean you have failed or that you will never heal.

You made a difficult and right decision to end a relationship where you were not sharing the same faith. Scripture is very clear when it says not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers, asking what fellowship righteousness can have with unrighteousness, or light with darkness. That principle is not limited to one situation. Whenever a believer is bound closely to an unbeliever, the yoke is unequal. You do not live by the same standard, you do not follow the same Lord, and what may not trouble their conscience will trouble yours. Many people think their situation is the exception because the feelings are so strong, but love alone does not make an unequal yoke equal. Two who are pulling in different directions cannot carry the load together. They remain like oil and water, they do not truly mix.

Because of that, God calls His people to come out and be separate, to not touch what is unclean, and He promises in that place of separation to receive us and to be a Father to us. Your obedience in stepping away, even though it hurts, is part of walking in that separated life He desires for you, a life where your closest bonds are with those who share your faith in Jesus Christ, who alone is the way of salvation.

It is also understandable that his words hurt you so deeply. To be told you never really loved him cuts to the heart, especially when you know you did care. When someone uses words that way, it can be a form of manipulation meant to create guilt and pull you back in. Even if you can see that possibility, the wound still stings. The Lord understands that hurt. He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, and His Word at times cuts like a sharp sword, but His cutting is never to destroy. It is like a surgeon who must cut to remove what is harmful. The cut hurts and there is a time of recovery, but the hurt has a purpose, which is healing. Faithful are the wounds of a friend because they are intended to heal, even when they are painful at first.

Healing in our hearts is often not instant. In Scripture we see Jesus heal some immediately and others gradually, and all healing comes from Him. Emotional healing is divine healing too. God has built processes of healing into us, and He heals the scars and wounds in our minds and emotions over time. Feeling that you have gone backward after contact does not mean you are not healing. It often means the healing is still in process and needs to be protected.

Please hear too that God is not waiting to hurt you when you struggle. The true fear of the Lord is not being afraid that He will harm you, but growing to love Him so much that you do not want to grieve Him. Your choices do matter to Him because He loves you deeply, and a self destructive path does grieve His heart, just as a loving parent grieves to see a child walk toward pain. He is for you, not against you, and He wants to spare you the deeper hurt that comes from being bound to someone who does not walk with Him.

I will pray for you, that the Lord will comfort you and guard your heart, that He will heal your emotions day by day and give you strength to remain separate as He has called you to be. I pray He will help you set firm boundaries and not be drawn back into conversation that confuses and wounds you, and that He will surround you with believing community to support you. I also pray for your former boyfriend, that God would draw him to salvation through Jesus, but that your healing would not depend on his response.

If he contacts you again, it is wise to not engage at length. Step away, bring the hurt to the Lord in prayer, open His Word, and reach out to a mature believing friend or pastor who can remind you of truth when emotions are loud. Over time, as you stay close to Christ and walk in obedience, the pain will lessen and His peace will grow stronger.
