Thank you for sharing this burden so honestly. Your desire to see your former boyfriend healed and to take responsibility for any hurt you caused shows a tender conscience before God, and your desire for healthy separation and peace is understandable.

Guilt is not something we can hide from ourselves. When we try to cover it or excuse it, it stays before us and weighs us down. Scripture shows us through David that the way forward is to acknowledge our transgression openly before God. There is no forgiveness in justifying what we have done. Forgiveness comes when we confess it. God invites us to reason together with Him, and He promises that though sins are as scarlet they shall be as white as snow. When God forgives, it is total and complete. He abundantly pardons through Jesus Christ who died in our place. Nothing else removes the weight of guilt like coming to God, confessing, and receiving His cleansing. That guilt can otherwise create a hidden desire to be punished, to feel we must pay somehow. God does not want you to live under that. He wants to lift that heavy hand of guilt, restore fellowship, and give you joy and gladness again. If you have hurt this man, bring that specifically to the Lord, confess it, and receive His full forgiveness through Jesus. That is the greatest miracle, far greater than any other healing, because it settles your eternity with Him.

God is also able to heal emotional and psychological wounds, and every process of healing is from Him. Sometimes He heals instantly, sometimes gradually, and sometimes His greatest work is the healing of the heart through salvation and forgiveness. The Bible speaks of the river of life and the leaves of the tree for the healing of the nations, and it invites all who will come to receive cleansing and pardon. We do not presume to know exactly how or when God will bring healing in every case, as even Paul prayed three times concerning his thorn and learned to trust God's sovereign will. But we can confidently ask God to bring healing according to His wisdom and mercy, and to do the deepest healing of all, which is the forgiveness of sins and peace with Him through Christ. That is the most important need for any person.

It is right to entrust your former boyfriend to God's care while also asking for wise boundaries. Praying for his healing does not require remaining in contact or reopening what God is calling you to step away from. You can release him into God's hands, asking God to work in his life, to heal trauma, to bring stability to his mind and behavior, and above all to draw him to salvation if he does not know Jesus. At the same time you can ask God to guard your own heart, to give you peace, and to establish clear boundaries that protect both of you. This is not about punishment, but about wisdom and wholeness as you each walk forward separately with the Lord.

Let me pray for you both.

Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this sister before You and thank You that You see her heart. I ask that You would give her the grace to confess fully any way she has sinned against You and against this man, and to receive Your total and complete forgiveness. Wash her and make her clean, lift the burden of guilt, and restore to her the joy of Your salvation. Heal her heart where it has been wounded, and give her peace as she trusts You.

I also lift this man to You. You know his trauma and every emotional and psychological struggle. I ask for Your healing hand upon him according to Your will. Heal what is broken, bring clarity and health to his mind and emotions, and lead him to know Jesus Christ as Savior if he does not yet know Him. Do the eternal work of forgiving his sins and bringing him into Your family.

I ask for Your protection and wisdom over both lives going forward. Establish healthy boundaries and keep each one in Your care. Let there be no contact that would cause harm or confusion, but let both find wholeness in You alone. May Your will be done in each life, and may both come to know the blessed happiness of the one whose transgression is forgiven and whose sin is covered. Amen.
