Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for me. I got into a relationship I shouldn't have even though I knew we were unequally yoked and he believed wrong things about Christian faith. I broke up with him a month ago but I'm really struggling. I don't know how I'll ever get over him. Please pray for others experiencing the same thing. I know God doesn't want me to marry him. The answer from God has clearly been no. Thank you.

We hear your heart and we thank you for your honesty before the Lord, and we rejoice with you that you obeyed God by ending a relationship you knew was not His will even though it is so painful right now. It takes real courage and faith to say no to something your heart still wants because you love and trust God more, and He sees that obedience and He honors it.

You were right to recognize that you were unequally yoked. Scripture warns us very clearly for our own protection, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. And also, Do not be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals. 1 Corinthians 15:33. When a man believes wrong things about the Christian faith, he cannot lead a home in truth or help you grow closer to Christ, and that foundation would only bring greater sorrow in a marriage. God says no because He loves you and has something better, not to punish you. His no is mercy.

We also understand how deep the struggle is a month after a breakup. Grief, loneliness, and even second guessing are normal, but God is near to you in this pain. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. We encourage you to draw near to Him daily, to guard your heart, for out of it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23. Fill your mind with His Word, stay in fellowship with other believers, and do not isolate yourself or keep open doors of communication that will make healing harder. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

We want to gently point out that you mention God but not the name of Jesus Christ in your request. We want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, place your full faith in Jesus Christ, that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. He has forgiven your decision to enter that relationship knowingly, and He will cleanse and restore you as you walk in obedience now.

We also want to encourage you in how you view future relationships. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman designed by God, and any courtship should be entered with the purpose of discerning marriage to a fellow believer who loves Jesus wholeheartedly. A boyfriend or girlfriend is not just a partner or companion for a season, but a potential godly spouse. Seek a man who will lead you toward Christ, not away from Him, and keep yourself pure and set apart for that marriage, for God calls us to flee sexual immorality and to honor Him with our bodies.

We lift you and others who are walking this same difficult road before the Lord together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear sister to You. We thank You for her obedience to Your voice when You said no, even through tears. We ask You to forgive her for knowingly entering an unequally yoked relationship and to wash her clean by the blood of Jesus. Lord, heal her broken heart and bind up her wounds. Comfort her in her loneliness and take away the confusion and longing that still lingers. Help her to cast all her anxiety on You because You care for her, and guard her heart and mind with Your peace which surpasses all understanding. Philippians 4:7. Draw her close to You as she draws near to You. James 4:8. Renew her hope and remind her that You know the plans You have for her, plans for peace and not for evil, to give her hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. For every other person experiencing this same struggle, we pray You would give them strength to obey, comfort in their grief, and faith to trust that Your way is best. Prepare for our sister, in Your perfect timing, a godly husband who loves You above all else, if it is Your will for her to marry, and help her to become the godly wife You have called her to be. Keep her eyes on Jesus until that day. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep walking forward, even when your feelings pull you backward. Do not dwell on what might have been, but fix your eyes on what God is doing now. Stay rooted in the Word, in prayer, and in your church family. God will bring healing day by day, and He will redeem this season for your good. Romans 8:28. We are praying for you to find joy and wholeness in Christ first, trusting that He will lead you to the right godly marriage in His perfect time.

We are so glad you shared this honestly with us. Saying no to a relationship you knew was not right before God takes real courage, and it makes sense that obedience and heartache are living side by side right now. A month is still very tender, and wondering how you will ever get over him is a normal part of grief, not a sign you made the wrong choice.

Healing after a breakup is rarely a straight line. Some days may feel steadier and other days the longing comes back strong. Giving your heart consistent space to heal can help. For many that means keeping kind but clear boundaries for a season, like not checking his updates or meeting alone, and instead letting one or two trusted Christian friends or a pastor know how you are really doing week by week so you are not carrying this alone. When painful memories or loneliness surface, simply inviting Jesus to be with you in that moment, honestly and quietly, can slowly bring more comfort than trying to push the feelings away on your own.

We hear your heart for others walking this same road and we will join you in praying for them as well.

Father, we lift our sister to You and thank You for her willingness to obey You even when it hurts. Comfort her in her sadness, steady her when the longing feels heavy, and bring healing to the places that still ache. Surround her with wise and caring companions and guide her steps in the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a tender mercy that you have obeyed the voice of the Lord though your heart still trembles and aches. To know that a path is not of God and yet to feel the sorrow of leaving it is a deep wound, and the Lord does not despise that sorrow. He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds, and He will not leave you to heal yourself.

You have done well to heed that precept, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers. The yoke of Christ may seem hard when it calls us to turn from what our nature craves, yet our nature often craves what would be our poison. The Lord Jesus denies to those who take His yoke nothing but that which would be injurious to them. That first loss which obedience requires will be vastly less than the after losses you would incur by seeking to avoid it. You thought rightly that to be joined to one who believes wrong things concerning Christ and His salvation could not lead to peace in the home or faithfulness in the soul, for how can two walk together except they be agreed. Your obedience now, though painful, is the path of safety and of rest.

There is abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing. His leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. You value now the wound, but you shall yet value the Physician. The same hand that pardons also heals, for when Jesus said, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee, pardon and healing were made one. Come to Him daily with this wound. Tell Him plainly that you still feel the pull of affection and the loneliness that follows, and ask Him to let the healing virtue of His grace work in you till you are made whole. He can make the heart that has been humbled in the dust to look for all in Christ and to find there a fullness that no earthly companionship could give.

I will pray for you, and for others who bear the same burden. I pray that the Lord will keep you in this holy resolve, that He will forgive what needs forgiving and heal what has been wounded, that He will guard your mind by His Word and your heart by His Spirit, and that He will give you patience to wait upon Him for all good things in His time. For those who are likewise struggling after such a parting, I pray that they may find that the yoke of Christ is easy and His burden light, and that they may prove that to lose a little for obedience is to gain Christ Himself, who is better than all.

May the Sun of Righteousness rise upon you with healing in His wings, and may you be kept close to Him who alone is salvation, till your sorrow is turned into strength for His service.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this so honestly and with such humility before God. Your willingness to obey Him even when it costs you deeply is evidence of His grace at work in you, and He sees both your obedience and your pain.

It is right that you stepped away from a relationship that was unequally yoked and built on different beliefs about Christ and His gospel. Scripture is clear that we are to walk in unity of faith, and that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. To recognize that God has said no and to submit to that answer, even while your heart still aches, is faithful and wise, though it does not make the ache any less real.

It is normal to struggle a month after a breakup, even when you know it was the right decision. Grief, loneliness, and questions about the future do not mean you made the wrong choice. They mean you are human and you loved someone, and now you need time for the Lord to heal and restore you. Do not be discouraged if healing feels slow. As you continue to bring your sorrow to Him, stay rooted in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with faithful believers who can walk with you, He will strengthen you day by day and cleanse and renew your heart.

I will pray for you, and for others who are walking through the same kind of loss.

Father, we thank You for Your mercy and for the work You have already done in this heart that desires to obey You. We ask You to pour out Your comfort and peace that passes understanding. Heal the hurt and loneliness, guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and give strength to continue to trust Your good and loving no. Help to keep roots deep in Your Word and to find hope not in a relationship but in You. Give wisdom for the days ahead, and surround with godly community and counsel. We pray also for all others who are grieving the end of an unequally yoked relationship, that You would draw them close, remind them of Your faithfulness, and lead them to trust Your perfect will for marriage and for life. Restore joy and hope in You, and guide each step forward according to Your grace. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
