Good and Faithful Servant
I have been plagued with divination thoughts since being in the new age even after returning to Christ and leaving behind those things (although I'm hoping that steps I'm taking to walk in true forgiveness and be obedient to Christ in all ways will alleviate these attacks finally). I am experiencing divination thoughts about an ex who I recently broke up with due to us being very unequally yoked and him not being a Christian. I keep having thoughts about him moving on to other people and also about him missing me and wanting to come back. All these thoughts are painful but the thoughts about him coming back are really difficult and cruel because it never actually happens. I try to ignore these thoughts but they are so loud and intrusive and have become so ingrained in my daily life unfortunately. Unfortunately (somehow), these thoughts are also accurate at times and so getting thoughts of him wanting to come back just creates a lot of chaos and even gives me hope. Please pray. The thing is that even if my ex misses me, we CANNOT be together unless he is a Christian. I tried to open his eyes to the error of his beliefs and I hope it bears fruit anyway not for my sake (although it would be beautiful to be able to end up with him) but for his. Pray for his loved ones' faith too. I don't even want to think/talk about my ex anymore because I want to just move on so I'm trying to ignore it all. Thank you.

We hear the pain and spiritual heaviness in what you have shared and we join with you in seeking the Lord together for deliverance, peace, and clarity in Jesus' name. We rejoice that you have returned to Christ and have left the new age behind and that you made the difficult but obedient choice to break off a courtship that was unequally yoked, for we are told in 2 Corinthians 6:14, Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity, and we commend you for honoring God in this. That decision reflects a desire to honor the sanctity of marriage as God designed it to be a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and to pursue courtship only with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer who will walk with you toward Christ.

We also want to lovingly rebuke and renounce with you the divination and new age practices that once had a place in your life. Scripture is very clear that these things are not from God and are an abomination to Him, as it says in Deuteronomy 18:10-12, There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer. Even after repentance, the enemy will try to use old doors and familiar patterns to harass you with intrusive thoughts that feel like divination, that feel loud and ingrained and even at times seem accurate. We want to remind you that accuracy does not mean a thought is from God. The enemy can observe, can whisper, and can use our own wounds and longings to torment us. We are told in Ephesians 6:12 that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. These intrusive thoughts about your ex moving on or coming back, and the cruel hope and chaos they create, are not the voice of the Holy Spirit, for God is not a God of confusion but of peace as in 1 Corinthians 14:33.

We understand how painful it is when those thoughts feel so loud that ignoring them feels impossible, and how the hope that he will return keeps pulling at your heart. We gently encourage you not to simply try to ignore them in your own strength, but to actively take them captive and replace them with truth. We are instructed in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and in Philippians 4:8 to think about whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report. This happens as we are transformed by the renewing of our mind in Romans 12:2 through daily washing in the Word, prayer, worship, and fellowship. When those thoughts come, we can submit ourselves to God and resist the devil and he will flee from us as promised in James 4:7, declaring out loud that we renounce divination in all its forms and choose to trust only the Lord's voice.

We also affirm your understanding that even if your ex misses you, you cannot be together unless he is a Christian, and that you cannot be the one to save him. Only Jesus can. We love your heart that you desire fruit for his sake and not just your own, and that you pray for his loved ones as well. We stand with you for his salvation, for it is only through Jesus that any of us have access to the Father, for Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. There is no other name by which we can be saved as in Acts 4:12, and we cling to 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, which includes His cleansing of our past involvement in the new age as we walk in true forgiveness and obedience.

We pray together now for you. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this dear sister who has turned back to You and chosen obedience over her own desires. We ask You to forgive and cleanse every past participation in divination and new age darkness and to close every door the enemy has used. We renounce divination on her behalf and we ask You to break its power over her mind completely. Lord, silence the loud intrusive thoughts and replace them with Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding as in Philippians 4:7. Teach her to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and renew her mind daily in Your Word. Heal the pain of this broken courtship, heal the longing and the grief, and help her to fully move on as she desires, trusting that Your plans for a godly marriage in Your timing are good. We also lift up her ex and his loved ones to You, Lord, and ask for the Holy Spirit to convict them, to open their eyes to the truth of the gospel, and to draw them to salvation in Jesus, whether or not that ever leads to reconciliation. Let Your will be done in all these relationships. Give her strength to walk in forgiveness, in purity, and in wholehearted obedience, and surround her with godly counsel and community. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue steadfastly in the Word, in prayer, and perhaps in fasting as the Lord leads, and to speak Scripture aloud when the thoughts attack. Keep no contact with your ex as you have been doing to guard your heart, and fill that space with worship and fellowship with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable. God sees your obedience and He will honor it, and He will lead you to the future He has prepared, whether that includes a godly spouse who loves Christ or a continued season of singleness devoted to Him.

We hear how exhausting this has been for you, and how loud those intrusive thoughts have become. After coming out of the New Age and making the painful, obedient choice to step away from a relationship that was not equally yoked, it makes sense that this cycle of thoughts about your ex would feel especially cruel, giving you hope one moment and leaving you unsettled the next. When a thought sometimes seems to line up with reality, it can be even harder not to treat it as guidance.

One gentle practice that helps many believers in this kind of struggle is learning to notice the thought without treating it as a message you have to decode or follow. When the thought comes that he is missing you or moving on, you can quietly name it for what it is, a thought passing through, not direction, and then turn your attention back to what is actually before you today, your walk with Christ, the forgiveness work you mentioned, simple faithful steps in the present. That steady redirect, practiced over time and with the support of a trusted pastor or mature believer you can talk to honestly, can help loosen the grip these patterns have had.

We are grateful for your heart for his salvation for his own sake, and we join you there. We also admire your desire to move forward and to live obediently.

Father, we lift our sister to You. Quiet the noise that has tormented her mind and guard her heart as she seeks to follow You. Give her clear wisdom, deep peace, and freedom to rest in Your care today. Draw her ex and his loved ones to Yourself and work in their hearts according to Your will. Lead her step by step in healing and hope, in Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request has been read with much care and has been carried to the throne of grace, and there is much in it which calls for thanksgiving as well as for prayer.

There is cause to bless God that He has brought you out of the darkness of the new age and that He has taught you the mischief that comes from loving the world and the things thereof. That deliverance is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He who has delivered you from the guilt of sin must also deliver you from the power of darkness, and this too is altogether the work of God. You are right to turn from divination and to seek to walk in forgiveness and obedience to Christ in all ways, for those former things have no service for you. Turn away from them.

The intrusive and loud thoughts of which you speak are as arrows shot from Satan's bow, and many of the Lord's people have been wounded by them scores of times. They are cruel because they stir hope where there is no promise and pain where there should be peace. You do well to try to ignore them, yet you will find that no power of your own will keep them away. Our thoughts are not God's thoughts, nor are our ways His ways, for as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways higher than our ways and His thoughts than our thoughts. The thoughts of God are precious and rare, and when we are kept near to Him we are kept still with Him. Do not heed these divination thoughts even when they seem to be accurate at times, for to follow them is to leave the sure word of God for a broken cistern. That which comes from the Lord bears the character of a Father's chastening and is meant to refine, not to torment with vain imaginings. Lay hold by faith upon God's thoughts revealed in Scripture, and pray that He will keep your mind stayed upon Him.

You have acted in obedience in breaking the tie with one who is not a Christian, and in this you are to be commended and comforted. The Scripture teaches that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with that union alone as the place for such nearness. To be unequally yoked is to walk in two ways at once, and you have done rightly to refuse it. Though it would be beautiful in your eyes to end with him, you have rightly said that you cannot be together unless he be in Christ, and that your desire for his salvation is first for his own soul. That is a right and holy desire.

Be encouraged that the Lord looks down from the height of His sanctuary to hear the groaning of the prisoner and to loose those that are appointed to death. Then He is gracious unto him and says, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance if God had not thought of it, but He has invented it and He has found it in the gift of His own Son who bore the penalty of all our iniquities. God has given commandment to save you and you shall be saved, saved from yourself and from all the attacks of your old sins, saved from the devil, saved from evil company. He keeps back the soul from the Pit and the life from perishing. May you prove this and live to declare the works of the Lord, for the believer's conduct after affliction and after deliverance is to say, I shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord.

We will pray for you that the Lord will deliver you from these intrusive thoughts, that He will cleanse your mind by His precious blood and by His Spirit, that He will give you grace to walk in true forgiveness and full obedience, and that He will fill your thoughts with His own precious thoughts. We will pray for this man, that the Lord who alone can open blind eyes will show him the error of his beliefs and bring him to repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation, not for your sake only but for his own soul's sake, and that it may bear fruit to eternal life. We will pray also for his loved ones, that faith may be found in that house and that they may know the same ransom. And we will pray that you may be kept from going back to that which God has called you from, and that you may know quietness of mind as you wait upon the Lord, trusting not in thoughts that create chaos but in the sure promise of Him who refines as silver and keeps His own.

May the Lord grant you to see even this sharp trial as from a Father's hand, and to find it profitable as He delivers you and establishes you in Christ.

Your request reveals a deep and painful battle, and I thank you for sharing it so honestly. The intrusive thoughts you describe, the loud and ingrained sense of knowing or seeing what your former partner is thinking or doing, and the hope and chaos that follows, are a heavy burden. It is good that you have left the practices of the new age behind and returned to Christ, and that you are seeking to walk in forgiveness and obedience. That path is right, and God honors it.

What you call divination thoughts is not a gift to be trusted or followed, even when at times it seems accurate. A mind made turbid by confusion can mistake what is presented to it, like a disordered eye that mistakes the object before it. The enemy works in that confusion, suggesting thoughts that create torment and false hope. The fact that a thought sometimes appears to be true does not mean it comes from God or that you should listen to it. To entertain these thoughts, to dwell on them or to use them to predict what another person will do, keeps you exposed by the wayside where you are trodden down by every passing thought. Scripture calls us to turn away from divination entirely and to trust God with what we cannot see.

Your conviction that you cannot be together unless he is a Christian is true and wise. Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that believers are not to be unequally yoked. Sex and living together belong within that covenant alone. To break off the relationship for this reason was an act of obedience, even though it brought pain. It is right to desire his salvation not for the sake of a reunion, but for his own soul, and it is right to pray for the faith of his loved ones as well. We do not ask God to bless a reunion that would be outside His will, but we do ask Him to have mercy and to draw your former partner to Himself.

Healing from these patterns does not usually happen at once, but by degrees. The way forward is a careful hearing and continual recollection of the word of God. When you come continually to hear the Scriptures and let them be written not on a pillar of brass but on your heart, as tablets where the Holy Spirit stamps His law, the enemy will not be able even to look upon that heart but will turn away. When the heart and mind are bound to Christ, other bonds lose their power. If there are thorns, let the fire of the Spirit burn among them. If the heart has become hard, let that same fire make it soft. If you have been lying exposed to every thought, seek the more sheltered place of prayer, Scripture, and fellowship, so that you are not plundered by intrusive ideas.

In practice this means refusing to engage the divination thoughts when they come. Do not argue with them, follow them, or test them. Turn at once to what you know to be true from Scripture, pray, and set your mind on divine matters. Write down in your mind what you hear from the word, and return to it through the day. Continue in forgiveness as God enables you, and in simple obedience in all things. Over time, with this steady care, you will feel your progress by experience and enjoy greater calm even while the storm still tries to press in.

Let us pray together.

Father, we thank You that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone and that You have brought this soul back to Yourself from darkness. We ask for Your mercy and cleansing from all former practices of divination, and for strength to renounce them completely and to trust You with the future. Lord, quiet these loud and intrusive thoughts. Renew her mind by Your word, write Your law upon her heart, and guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Grant her peace, freedom from torment, and the ability to move forward in wholeness and obedience.

We pray for this man who does not yet know You. Have mercy on him and bring him to true faith in Jesus, not for the sake of a relationship, but for his eternal good. Work also in the lives of his loved ones, that they may know You and walk in Your truth. For our sister, grant wisdom to keep the boundary she has set, to not return to what is unequally yoked, and to trust Your good will for her life, whether that includes marriage in the future according to Your design or a different path of faithfulness. Give her a community that hears Your word with her and encourages her daily. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
