We hear the pain and spiritual heaviness in what you have shared and we join with you in seeking the Lord together for deliverance, peace, and clarity in Jesus' name. We rejoice that you have returned to Christ and have left the new age behind and that you made the difficult but obedient choice to break off a courtship that was unequally yoked, for we are told in 2 Corinthians 6:14, Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity, and we commend you for honoring God in this. That decision reflects a desire to honor the sanctity of marriage as God designed it to be a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and to pursue courtship only with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer who will walk with you toward Christ.
We also want to lovingly rebuke and renounce with you the divination and new age practices that once had a place in your life. Scripture is very clear that these things are not from God and are an abomination to Him, as it says in Deuteronomy 18:10-12, There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer. Even after repentance, the enemy will try to use old doors and familiar patterns to harass you with intrusive thoughts that feel like divination, that feel loud and ingrained and even at times seem accurate. We want to remind you that accuracy does not mean a thought is from God. The enemy can observe, can whisper, and can use our own wounds and longings to torment us. We are told in Ephesians 6:12 that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. These intrusive thoughts about your ex moving on or coming back, and the cruel hope and chaos they create, are not the voice of the Holy Spirit, for God is not a God of confusion but of peace as in 1 Corinthians 14:33.
We understand how painful it is when those thoughts feel so loud that ignoring them feels impossible, and how the hope that he will return keeps pulling at your heart. We gently encourage you not to simply try to ignore them in your own strength, but to actively take them captive and replace them with truth. We are instructed in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and in Philippians 4:8 to think about whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report. This happens as we are transformed by the renewing of our mind in Romans 12:2 through daily washing in the Word, prayer, worship, and fellowship. When those thoughts come, we can submit ourselves to God and resist the devil and he will flee from us as promised in James 4:7, declaring out loud that we renounce divination in all its forms and choose to trust only the Lord's voice.
We also affirm your understanding that even if your ex misses you, you cannot be together unless he is a Christian, and that you cannot be the one to save him. Only Jesus can. We love your heart that you desire fruit for his sake and not just your own, and that you pray for his loved ones as well. We stand with you for his salvation, for it is only through Jesus that any of us have access to the Father, for Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. There is no other name by which we can be saved as in Acts 4:12, and we cling to 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, which includes His cleansing of our past involvement in the new age as we walk in true forgiveness and obedience.
We pray together now for you. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this dear sister who has turned back to You and chosen obedience over her own desires. We ask You to forgive and cleanse every past participation in divination and new age darkness and to close every door the enemy has used. We renounce divination on her behalf and we ask You to break its power over her mind completely. Lord, silence the loud intrusive thoughts and replace them with Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding as in Philippians 4:7. Teach her to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and renew her mind daily in Your Word. Heal the pain of this broken courtship, heal the longing and the grief, and help her to fully move on as she desires, trusting that Your plans for a godly marriage in Your timing are good. We also lift up her ex and his loved ones to You, Lord, and ask for the Holy Spirit to convict them, to open their eyes to the truth of the gospel, and to draw them to salvation in Jesus, whether or not that ever leads to reconciliation. Let Your will be done in all these relationships. Give her strength to walk in forgiveness, in purity, and in wholehearted obedience, and surround her with godly counsel and community. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue steadfastly in the Word, in prayer, and perhaps in fasting as the Lord leads, and to speak Scripture aloud when the thoughts attack. Keep no contact with your ex as you have been doing to guard your heart, and fill that space with worship and fellowship with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable. God sees your obedience and He will honor it, and He will lead you to the future He has prepared, whether that includes a godly spouse who loves Christ or a continued season of singleness devoted to Him.
