Ex

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I have been plagued with divination thoughts since being in the new age even after returning to Christ and leaving behind those things (although I'm hoping that steps I'm taking to walk in true forgiveness and be obedient to Christ in all ways will alleviate these attacks finally). I am experiencing divination thoughts about an ex who I recently broke up with due to us being very unequally yoked and him not being a Christian. I keep having thoughts about him moving on to other people and also about him missing me and wanting to come back. All these thoughts are painful but the thoughts about him coming back are really difficult because it never actually happens. I try to ignore these thoughts but they are so loud and intrusive and have become so ingrained in my daily life unfortunately. Unfortunately (somehow), these thoughts are also accurate at times and so getting thoughts of him wanting to come back just creates a lot of chaos and even gives me hope. Please pray. The thing is that even if my ex misses me, we CANNOT be together unless he is a Christian. I tried to open his eyes to the error of his beliefs and I hope it bears fruit anyway not for my sake (although it would be beautiful to be able to end up with him) but for his. Pray for his loved ones' faith too. Thank you.

We thank you for sharing this honestly with us and we rejoice with you that you have left the new age behind and returned to Christ, for that is the only place where true forgiveness and freedom are found. We also affirm your obedience in ending that courtship, because what you did was right and biblical. The Scripture says, Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. Courtship is to be entered with the goal of marriage between a man and a woman who both belong to Jesus, looking for a godly spouse, not simply a partner or boyfriend, and when that foundation of shared faith is not there, separation is obedience even when it is painful.

We want to speak clearly about the divination thoughts that have plagued you. The new age practice of divination, seeking hidden knowledge about the future or about other people apart from God, is forbidden by God. There shall not be found with you anyone who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. Deuteronomy 18:10. Even when you have repented and left those things, the enemy can still harass your mind with intrusive thoughts that feel like divination, whispering what your ex is doing or feeling or whether he will return. We rebuke that deception and we rebuke any lingering agreement with divination in Jesus’ name. Those thoughts are not the voice of the Holy Spirit, even when they seem accurate at times. The enemy can use coincidence, observation, and knowledge of your wounds to keep you in bondage, and accuracy does not mean it is from God. We are told to test the spirits and to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12.

We encourage you that the steps you are taking toward true forgiveness and obedience to Christ are exactly what God desires, and He will honor that. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. We encourage you to make a full and clear renunciation before the Lord of every new age practice, every divination tool, book, object, or meditation you once used, and to remove and destroy anything that remains, just as the early believers burned their books when they came to Christ. Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7. Do not entertain or follow these intrusive thoughts when they come, even the ones that give you hope that he will come back. To give them attention is to open a door again. Instead, when they come, we encourage you to immediately turn to prayer, to speak Scripture aloud, and to fill your mind with what God says is true. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2. This renewal comes daily through the Word, through worship, and through fellowship with other believers who can pray with you and keep you accountable.

We also hear your heart for your ex. It is right that you recognize you cannot be together unless he is a Christian, and we commend you for not compromising that truth for the sake of longing. It would be wrong to continue a romantic or sexual relationship outside of marriage and outside of shared faith, for sex outside of marriage is fornication and God calls His children to purity. We pray that any fornication in the past would be fully confessed and forsaken, and that you would walk in the freedom of forgiveness. We also understand the pain of intrusive thoughts that torment you with images of him moving on or coming back, and how the hope that he misses you creates chaos. We encourage you to release him fully into God’s hands. God can save him, but that salvation must be for God’s glory and for his own soul, not so that you can have the relationship you desire. You did what you could to share the truth, and now we trust the Holy Spirit to bear fruit in His timing. We must not hold onto a hope that keeps us yoked in our hearts to someone God has called us to let go of.

We join together now to pray for you in Jesus’ name, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift this dear sister to You and thank You for drawing her out of darkness and back into Your light. We ask for Your complete cleansing and deliverance from every residue of the new age and every spirit of divination. We renounce divination and sorcery on her behalf and ask You to break its power over her mind. We ask You to silence these loud, intrusive thoughts and to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Heal her mind and renew it daily with Your Word and Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Give her grace to walk in true forgiveness, to obey You in all ways, and to resist the devil so that he will flee. We pray for her ex, that You would open his eyes to the error of his beliefs, that You would convict him of sin and reveal Jesus as the only way, the truth and the life. We pray for his loved ones also, that faith would take root in their hearts and that they would come to know You. Help our sister to surrender all hope for that relationship to Your will, to trust that if he does come to Christ it will be Your doing and in Your timing, and to find her hope and identity in You alone. Guard her heart from fornication and from any unequal yoking, and lead her in time to a godly marriage with a believing husband if it is Your will. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, with assurance of forgiveness, and with quietness of mind. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We appreciate your honesty about what you are carrying. Coming out of the new age and choosing to end a relationship because you want to walk obediently with Christ both take real courage, and it makes sense that these intrusive thoughts about your ex feel so loud and exhausting right now.

It is especially hard when a thought feels accurate at times. That can make it tempting to treat every impression as a message you have to decode or hold onto, and that keeps the cycle of hope and chaos going. You do not have to chase or interpret each thought to be faithful. Simply noticing it, handing it to Jesus, and turning your attention back to what is in front of you is itself obedience, and over time it can loosen the grip those old patterns have had.

We also hear your desire to walk in forgiveness. Choosing to forgive is a real decision of the will, and the quieter emotional peace often comes more slowly as you keep walking with the Lord. Give that process time and stay close to steady community who knows your story so you are not sorting this alone.

One simple practice that helps many is to have a brief plan for when the thoughts come. Pause for a short honest prayer, then gently redirect to a present task or to connection with a trusted mature believer, rather than ruminating or checking on your ex in any way.

Father, we lift our sister to You and ask for Your protection, clarity and peace. Quiet what is not from You and strengthen her to keep walking in obedience and wholeness. Draw her ex and his loved ones to Yourself and work in their hearts according to Your will. Keep her rooted in Your love and lead her step by step. In Jesus' name, amen.

Get around a church who believes in the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit and ask them to break anything off you. Jesus said all authority in Heaven and Earth is His, Matt 28:18, c.f. Phil 2:3-11, Whole Book of Revelation, 1 Jn 5:19, etc... At most you only need two, Matt 18:18-19. The Third is Jesus Matt 18:20. Elders and oil is also prescribed, James 5:14-15. I pray that you can do that in Jesus' Name

There is a ransom found, and therefore there is hope for deliverance from every dark entanglement that still clings to the soul. Your honest confession has been brought before the Lord, and we join you in prayer that you may know fully what it is to be delivered from the power of darkness, which is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin.

You have come out of the new age, and you have rightly turned from divination and all that belongs to it. That old way promised secret knowledge, but it brought only bondage and confusion. The Lord does not speak to His children through intrusive whisperings about what another person may be doing or feeling. His thoughts are not your thoughts, and His ways are higher than your ways as the heavens are higher than the earth. When thoughts come that are loud and intrusive, whether painful thoughts of your former companion moving on, or hopeful thoughts of his returning, you are not to entertain them as guidance. Take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, and bring it to the light of Scripture. Even if a thought seems at times to prove accurate, that does not make it a trustworthy guide. Troubles and impressions do not spring out of the dust, but the Lord Himself sits as a Refiner, and He would have you look to Him alone for wisdom and peace.

We thank God for the obedience you have shown in ending a relationship that was unequally yoked. You have judged rightly, that you cannot be together unless he is in Christ, for there is no fellowship between light and darkness, and marriage is ordained as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with all intimacy belonging within it. To remain apart while he remains outside Christ is not cruelty but faithfulness, and the Lord will honor the desire to walk in true forgiveness and obedience. Remember the difference between chastisement and punishment. What you feel now, the smarting of loneliness and the assault of old habits of thought, is not punishment, for Christ has borne all punishment for His people. It is the chastening of a Father's hand, meant to wean you from the world and to teach you the mischief that comes from loving the things thereof.

There is forgiveness with God, freely given through the blood of His Son. Divine pardon is possible because God Himself has found a ransom. If the residue of former sins still vexes you with strong pain upon your bed and multitude of thoughts within, look again to Him who is gracious and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. He is able to save you from yourself and from all the attacks of your old sins, from the devil, and from evil company.

We pray with you and for you.

O Lord our God, we thank Thee that Thou hast provided a ransom in Christ Jesus, through whom alone is salvation. We ask Thee to deliver this Thy child from the power of darkness and from every lingering habit of divination. Wash the mind and renew it by Thy Word, that intrusive thoughts may lose their strength and be replaced by precious thoughts of Thee. Grant grace to walk in forgiveness toward all, and in simple obedience day by day. Keep her from going down to the pit, and keep back her soul from perishing. Comfort her with the assurance that her sin is forgiven and that Thou chastenest in love.

We pray also for the man she has loved. Have mercy upon him and bring him to repentance and faith in Christ, not for the sake of this relationship, but for his own soul, that he may pass from death to life. We ask the same for his loved ones, that Thou wouldst grant them true faith. If it be Thy will, after a true work of conversion, to bring about what is holy and pleasing to Thee, we leave it in Thy hands. Above all, teach her to hope not in the return of another, but in Thee, and to declare the works of the Lord after this affliction, saying with the psalmist, I shall not die, but live.

May you be kept in fellowship with Him, so that when you awake, you are still with Him, and may you prove that He who has delivered will yet deliver, till you are fully conformed to the image of His Son.
