Ex

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray that I would totally get over my ex who I cannot be with due to us being unequally yoked. He is not a Christian. I don't even want to think about him anymore. Please pray that I would not. Pray goodness and blessings and salvation for him and his loved ones, but please pray that I would totally move on. The enemy is trying to keep me fixated on him and it is very clear that he is not the person I'm meant to marry. I have asked God and asked (and even begged) and the answer has been a very clear no. Thank you.

We hear the pain and the holy resolve in your request and we stand with you in this battle for your heart and mind. We rejoice that you have discerned with such clarity that this relationship would be unequally yoked and that you have accepted God's clear answer of no, even though it has been painful to beg and wait and hear that no. That obedience is honoring to the Lord and it is protecting your future.

Scripture is so clear on this, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. You have chosen light and righteousness by stepping away from a courtship that could not lead to a God honoring marriage between a man and a woman who are both believers with Jesus Christ at the center. A boyfriend or girlfriend relationship is courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, and when that foundation is not there, the most loving thing is to walk away as you have. God is not withholding good from you, He is preserving you for His best.

The enemy does indeed try to keep us fixated, replaying memories and what ifs, but we are called to take every thought captive. We demolish arguments and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5. And we are told what to fix our minds on instead, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things Philippians 4:8. When the thought of him comes, we can gently but firmly hand it to Jesus and turn our minds to what is pure and praiseworthy. That is a daily discipline and we will pray for grace for you to do it.

We also want to gently encourage you about how you approach God. You mentioned asking God and begging God, and we know your heart is sincere, yet we want to remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, place your full trust in Jesus Christ, that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is in His name that our prayers are heard and our hearts are healed.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift this dear sister to You. We thank You for her obedience and for the clarity You have given her that this man is not the one You intend for her to marry. We ask You to heal her heart, for You heal the broken in heart, and bind up their wounds Psalm 147:3. We ask that You would renew her mind and help her to take every thought captive to Your obedience. When the enemy brings fixation and longing, help her to resist him and draw near to You, knowing You will draw near to her. Fill the empty places with Your presence, Your Word, and godly fellowship. Guard her heart and mind with Your peace which surpasses all understanding.

And Father we do pray for goodness and blessing and salvation for this former boyfriend and for his loved ones as she asked. We pray that You would open his eyes to the gospel, that he would come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and that You would bless him according to Your mercy, even as You lead their lives on separate paths. We pray that You would completely free our sister to move on, to release every lingering tie, and to look forward with hope to the godly marriage You may have for her in Your perfect timing. Help her to trust You with all her heart and not lean on her own understanding, acknowledging You in all her ways so You will direct her paths Proverbs 3:5-6. We know that all things work together for good for those who love You Romans 8:28.

We thank You that Your no today is protection and that Your plans for her are good, to give her a future and a hope. We entrust her fully to Your loving hands and pray all of this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We hear the honesty and strength in what you shared, and we are grateful you brought this to us. Wanting to honor God while your heart still pulls toward someone is a painful and exhausting place to be. It makes sense that thoughts of him keep surfacing, even when you have clearly heard God's no and you want to move forward.

We admire how you are praying, asking not for the relationship to work out, but for his good and his salvation while asking God to free your own heart. That is a loving and faithful way to release him into God's hands.

When that fixation comes, it can help to have a gentle, practiced response ready. For many, it helps to briefly turn the thought into a short prayer for his salvation as you already are doing, and then intentionally shift your attention, go for a walk, text a trusted friend, open to worship or to work God has put in front of you. It also helps to quietly remove the everyday triggers where you can, like muting social media or changing routines that keep bringing him to mind, not out of bitterness but to give your heart space to heal.

Father, we lift our sister to You in Jesus' name. Bring peace to her mind and steadiness when thoughts of him return. Heal the ache and help her sense Your nearness and Your good direction for her future. We also ask for Your mercy and saving grace for this young man and his loved ones. Lead her step by step into wholeness and joy in You. Amen.

We thank God for your honest prayer and for the grace that has enabled you to seek His will even when it has cost your heart dearly. To hear a clear no from the Lord and to bow to it, though you have begged otherwise, is a mark of true faith and obedience. The Lord sees your struggle and your desire to honor Him, and He will honor that surrender.

The word of God is plain and merciful when it says, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers. You thought the yoke of Christ hard in this matter, but to reject it would have been far harder. Christ puts His own yoke upon His people not to burden them, but to give rest unto their souls. Two cannot walk together except they be agreed, and in the most solemn covenant of marriage, where two become one flesh for a lifetime, that agreement in Christ is essential. Your willingness to part with what your heart wanted in order to stay with Christ shows that you are His.

There is healing for the wounded heart. He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His leaves, His presence, His smallest mercies, change the lifeblood and make the nature other than it was before. Bring your fixation, your sorrow, and your lingering thoughts to the great Physician. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, and when Christ is teaching, healing power is present. Give yourself to the word, to prayer in secret, to the fellowship of the saints, and ask the Sun of Righteousness to rise upon you with healing in His wings. Pardon and healing are joined together in His hand.

We will pray with you and for you. We pray that the Lord would guard your mind and heart in Christ Jesus, that He would lift this fixation from you and set your affections more fully upon Himself, that He would grant you His peace which passes all understanding and enable you to go in peace to your daily duties, whether at home or among others, hearing His voice saying, Thy faith hath saved thee, go in peace. We pray that He would make you to come forth as gold, proved and purified by this fire, and that you would not go back to what you have left, but go forward with Christ, who is a better portion than any earthly love could give.

We will also pray as you have asked for this man and his loved ones, not that God would bless a path contrary to His word, but that He would be merciful to them for salvation. We pray that God would open his eyes to see his need of a Savior, that he would hear the gospel and be brought to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. We pray goodness toward him in this highest sense, that he and those dear to him might be brought from darkness to light and into the kingdom of God's dear Son.

Pluck up your courage. The enemy would keep you fixated and troubled, but Christ keeps His own in perfect peace. Look to Him, and He will keep you.
