We join with you in prayer and we commend you for recognizing the biblical truth about being unequally yoked and for desiring to honor God in this area even though it is painful.
The Lord calls us to guard our hearts in relationships, for as it is written, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship do righteousness and iniquity have? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. We also take to heart the warning that evil companionships corrupt good morals 1 Corinthians 15:33. Your obedience in stepping away from a relationship that could pull you away from Christ is an act of faith, and God honors that faithfulness even when your heart still aches.
We understand that getting over someone you cared for deeply is not instant. God sees your heartache and He is near to heal it, for He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. We pray that you will allow Him to do that complete healing work in you, not by clinging to the past, but by trusting Him with your future.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is through His name we pray and are heard.
Let us pray together.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You on behalf of our dear one who is hurting. Lord, we thank You for giving this heart the wisdom to recognize an unequally yoked relationship and the courage to walk away in obedience to You. We ask that You would bring complete healing and closure. Remove any lingering soul ties, fantasies, or longing that keeps this heart bound to the past. Renew the mind and purify the heart, and help our friend to take every thought captive to Your will. Fill the empty places with Your love, Your peace, and Your purpose. We pray that You would guard this life in purity, and if there was any fornication or compromise in the past, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing as there is confession and repentance, for You are faithful to forgive. Help our friend to walk in holiness as You call us to.
Father, we pray for comfort in loneliness and strength in temptation to look back. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard the heart and thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. Teach our friend to trust You with all the heart, and not to lean on our own understanding, but in all ways to acknowledge You, so that You will direct the paths Proverbs 3:5-6. In Your perfect timing, if it is Your will, provide a godly spouse, a fellow believer, for marriage as You designed it to be a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that honors You. Until then, help this life to be content and whole in You, seeking first Your Kingdom. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to stay rooted in the Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers who will support your walk. Do not pursue a boyfriend or girlfriend relationship lightly, but see courtship as a path toward godly marriage with another Christian believer. Guard your heart, set boundaries with your ex including limiting contact and social media if needed, and fill your time with things that build you up in Christ. The Lord has good plans for you, and as you delight yourself in Him, He will give you the desires of your heart according to His perfect will Psalm 37:4.
