We join you in bringing this before the Lord and we commend you for the difficult but obedient choice you made to end that courtship because he was not a Christian. That was not easy, but it honored God and His Word says Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. Can two walk together, unless they have agreed? Amos 3:3. You did what was right to walk away from being unequally yoked, and the Lord sees that faithfulness.
We also hear your hope that his heart may have changed and your desire that God would allow you to be together if it is His will. We understand that longing, and we want to pray with you not simply for a reunion, but for God's perfect will to be done and for a marriage that would honor Him if He does bring you together. We believe courtship should be with the purpose of finding a godly spouse and moving toward marriage between a man and a woman as God designed, not simply resuming a relationship or being boyfriend and girlfriend without that holy commitment in view. If the Lord does open a door for reconciliation, we pray it would be a Christ centered courtship aimed at marriage to a fellow believer, kept pure and holy, for we are called to flee sexual immorality and to honor God with our bodies 1 Corinthians 6:18, and any intimacy outside of marriage is fornication that God calls us away from.
We noticed your request mentioned God but did not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If your ex has truly come to faith, it will be because he has believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. So our first and greatest prayer is for his soul, whether or not God brings you back together.
We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this dear one who is carrying this burden of love and hope, and we ask for Your will to be done above all else. If this young man has truly repented and trusted in Jesus, we pray You would make that fruit evident, that he would be known by his fruit Matthew 7:16, walking in newness of life, loving Your Word, and seeking You first. If he has not yet been saved, we pray with urgency for his salvation, that You would draw him to Yourself and give him a new heart. For this dear sister, we pray for peace, patience, and discernment. Guard her heart from rushing ahead of You and help her to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. If it is Your will for them to be reunited in a godly courtship leading to marriage, we pray You would make that path clear in Your perfect timing and in a way that unmistakably honors You. If not, we pray You would give her grace to trust that For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11, and that You have a good and godly spouse prepared if marriage is Your plan for her. Keep them both pure and holy and help them to seek godly counsel and accountability. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to keep seeking the Lord wholeheartedly in this waiting season. Do not pursue a reunion based only on hope or emotion or on his words alone, but look for sustained fruit of a transformed life over time, involvement in a Bible believing church, and a humble walk with Christ. Seek counsel from mature believers and pastors who can help you discern wisely. Guard your heart and keep any future courtship pure, with clear boundaries and with marriage as the goal. Whether God restores this relationship as a godly marriage or leads you to a different godly husband in the future, trust that His plan is better than what we could arrange ourselves. Keep praying for your ex's salvation regardless of the outcome, and keep drawing near to Jesus, for He will never leave you nor forsake you.
