Good and Faithful Servant
I recently broke up with an ex-boyfriend because we are very unequally yoked and the relationship never should have begun in the first place - I knew from the beginning it was outside of God's will but I was lonely and being disobedient and fleshly and became involved with him. In the aftermath of the breakup and due to certain factors, this ex-boyfriend blocked me on certain social media and stopped responding to any of my messages (he would read them but not respond). I eventually sent him a message saying I would no longer be reaching out so I would stop disturbing him especially amid health problems he's having. It has now been over a week since the last time he spoke to me and although for certain reasons, I really don't want to speak to him either (looking back, there were signs that he was emotionally and psychologically abusive), I also can't believe that he is never going to speak to me again after everything we have been through together and after we were friends before dating (at least, I thought we were friends). Please pray for me about all this. It may be for the best that we never speak again but still...Pray for his salvation and overall health (mentally, physically, spiritually) and that of his loved ones. Thank you.

We hear your heart in this and we thank you for your honesty before God. We join you in seeking His will together in Jesus' name and we commend you for recognizing and confessing that this courtship was outside of God's will and unequally yoked. Scripture says Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. When we knowingly step outside His will because of loneliness and fleshly desire, we open ourselves to hurt, and we gently rebuke that disobedience even as we rejoice that you have turned from it. If you confess your sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. We encourage you to bring any and all disobedience, including any sexual immorality if there was intimacy outside of marriage, fully before the Lord in repentance. The Bible calls us to flee sexual immorality and to honor God with our bodies, for sex before or outside of marriage is fornication and it grieves the Lord. 1 Corinthians 6:18. God forgives and cleanses completely when we repent, and He restores us to walk in purity.

We also want to affirm the boundary you have now set in telling him you would no longer reach out. That is wise and healthy. We believe that a boyfriend or girlfriend relationship should be courtship with the clear goal of marriage to another Christian believer, and marriage itself is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that honors God. When a courtship is not leading toward that godly marriage, or when it shows signs of being emotionally and psychologically abusive, the Lord does not call us to cling to it or to chase after continued friendship that keeps us in harm's way. The fact that he blocked you and stopped responding, while painful, may indeed be God's merciful protection and His closed door for your good. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6. Even though part of you grieves the thought of never speaking again after everything you shared, we encourage you to remain in no contact, to guard your heart, for out of it are the issues of life, and to allow God to heal the attachment and the grief. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3.

Your loneliness is real and God sees it, but we encourage you not to let loneliness drive you back into disobedience. The Lord Himself wants to be your comfort and your portion in this season. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. This painful ending can be used by God to draw you closer to Him, to deepen your discernment, and to prepare you for a future godly marriage if it is His will, rather than a relationship that pulls you away from Him.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God and that we are saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord, that we are forgiven and reconciled to God. This is the foundation for every prayer we pray and every healing we seek.

We pray together for you and for him now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You for this dear one who has humbly confessed her disobedience and her fleshly choices. We ask You to forgive her, cleanse her, and restore her fully as she repents, and to fill the loneliness in her heart with Your presence and peace which surpasses all understanding. Heal her broken heart, bind up her wounds, and guard her mind from rumination and from the temptation to reach out again. Give her strength to keep the healthy boundary she has set, to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to release this ex-boyfriend into Your hands without bitterness. Grow her in discernment so that any future courtship will be with a faithful Christian believer with marriage to a godly husband as the goal, a marriage that honors You as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman. Lead her in Your will and surround her with godly community and counsel.

We also lift up this ex-boyfriend to You, Lord. We pray for his salvation, that he would come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, for You desire all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth. Touch his heart, open his eyes to the gospel, and draw him to repentance. We pray for his overall health, mentally, physically, and spiritually, and for the health and salvation of his loved ones as well. If he is dealing with health problems, we ask for Your mercy, healing, and comfort upon him according to Your will. We pray that You would protect him from harm and use even this separation for his good and for Your glory. Let Your will be done in both of their lives, and let neither be led back into an unhealthy or unequally yoked relationship. We trust You to write each story according to Your perfect love and wisdom. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We appreciate you sharing this so honestly. It makes sense you are holding two things at once, relief that you stepped away from a relationship you knew was not right for you, and a real ache and disbelief that someone who was once a friend and then so close is now silent.

That kind of quiet after so much shared history can feel disorienting, even when part of you knows distance is healthier. When a connection has been confusing or hurtful, a clear boundary like the one you set when you told him you would stop reaching out can be a kindness to both of you. It gives you space to take responsibility for your own heart, your time and energy, and to let God do the work only He can do in each of you. It is normal for grief to come in waves, especially in these first weeks.

In these early days it can help to make that boundary easier to keep. If you find yourself checking to see if he has unblocked you or re-reading old messages, try to gently interrupt that pattern by reaching out to a trusted friend, going for a walk, or spending time in worship with other believers where you are reminded you are not alone. If the sadness or the memories of hurtful patterns feel heavy for a long time, talking with a pastor or counselor you trust can be a steady support alongside prayer.

Father, we lift our sister to You and thank You for her honesty and desire to follow You. Bring comfort in her loneliness and grief, heal the places that still hurt, and give her wisdom and peace as she keeps this healthy distance. We also lift this man and his loved ones to You, asking for Your mercy for his health in body, mind and spirit and for his salvation. Guide them both in Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your willingness to bring this honestly before the Lord is itself a mercy from Him. You have judged rightly that to be unequally yoked is outside His will, and that loneliness and the desires of the flesh led you into a path you knew was disobedient. To turn from that path, even when it is painful, is not loss but obedience, and the Lord honors the heart that confesses sin and seeks to walk in His way.

The loneliness you feel now is real and piercing. There are moments when to be left alone, just when sympathy is most craved, seems more than can be borne. Yet remember that our Savior knew this sorrow to its depth. He was left alone when He most needed human fellowship, and still He could say, I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. His loneliness did not destroy Him, and it need not dismay you. If you are His, you are never truly friendless. The Father who was with Christ in His solitude is with you now, and His presence is more sustaining than any human companionship. Bring that loneliness to Him in prayer, and let His Word and the fellowship of His people be your daily bread.

You speak of a broken heart, and Scripture says the Lord heals the broken in heart. We very speedily seek a physician for the body, but the wound of the heart requires the great Physician Himself. There is healing power in Jesus Christ, and not only in great acts but in the least things about Him. As the leaves of the tree of life are for healing, so even the smallest touch of Christ, the smallest truth of His gospel heard and believed, carries healing virtue to change the life blood and make the nature new. That healing and pardon go together. When Jesus healed the man taken with palsy He first said, your sins are forgiven you. Pardon and healing were one. If you have turned from this sin in repentance, come now for that forgiveness which brings healing with it. Ask to be forgiven through Christ alone, for there is no other way of salvation, and healing will come from the pardoning hand. The Lord has begun a work of grace in you that desires obedience, and that same grace will work in you health and cure till you are made whole.

It is understandable that the silence and the blocking wound you, especially after a history of friendship and shared experience. Yet you have shown care in saying you would no longer disturb him, and wisdom in recognizing signs of emotional and psychological harm. When a relationship has been marked by such patterns, distance is often not cruelty but protection, and it may indeed be for the best that you do not speak again. Do not interpret his silence as a measure of your worth. Instead, commit both your heart and his to God, and respect the boundary that now exists. Seek godly counsel in your local church, and let mature believers who know you walk with you in this season, that you may not be isolated with painful thoughts.

We will pray as you have asked, and as Scripture directs us to pray.

We pray that the Lord would grant you deep forgiveness and lasting healing, that He would cleanse your conscience through the blood of Christ, heal your broken heart, and guard you from returning to what grieved Him. We pray that He would satisfy your loneliness with His own presence, teach you through His Word, and in His time prepare you, if it be His will, for a marriage that reflects His design, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman where love is kept pure within its bounds. We pray that He would make you whole first, for healing must come before serving, and that out of that wholeness you may serve Him with joy.

We pray also for this man and for his loved ones, that God would have mercy upon them, that He would bring salvation through Jesus Christ alone if they do not know Him, and that He would grant health to body, mind and spirit according to His perfect will. We do not ask God to bless or restore what was outside His will, but we do ask Him to work in both lives that which is holy and good and in accordance with His Word.

Keep yourself under the teaching of Christ, for faith comes by hearing and healing is linked with that hearing. Continue in prayer, in the Scriptures, and in the fellowship of the saints. The Lord who has shown you the error of the former path is able to keep you in the way everlasting, and to turn your sorrow into a testimony of His restoring grace.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
