Thank you for sharing so honestly about this painful season and for your desire to walk in obedience to God even when it hurts. What you have done in stepping away from a relationship that was outside of God's will is an act of faith, and God sees both the obedience and the grief that comes with it.
Scripture gives clear wisdom about this when it says, do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. It asks what fellowship righteousness can have with unrighteousness, and what communion light can have with darkness. That principle is not limited to marriage alone, but to any close yoke where two lives are bound together and pulling in the same direction. When that yoke is unequal, you are always in an uneven place because you are not living by the same standard or guided by the same Lord. What may not trouble one person deeply will trouble the other, because your conscience and your ethic are shaped by Christ. Many people believe their love is strong enough to overcome that difference, or that the other person will change, but love itself cannot make two fundamentally different foundations blend. They remain separate, like oil and water, and the burden does not get carried equally.
Because of this, God calls His people to come out and be separate, not to be harsh or unkind, but to be holy and to belong fully to Him. He promises that when we walk in that separation out of obedience, He receives us and is a Father to us. Your decision reflects that call, and while it is right, it is also understandably very difficult, especially when a friendship is ending along with the romantic relationship.
It is also right to grieve that loss. Ending a close relationship leaves real wounds, and healing is needed. The Bible shows that Jesus bore our infirmities and our sorrows, and healing is part of His compassionate work. That healing is truly from God, whether it happens in the body, the mind, or the heart. Sometimes God heals instantly, and sometimes healing comes gradually, like a process He has built into us. In either way it is still His work. He alone is sovereign over how and when healing comes, and we do not always understand His ways. What we can be sure of is that He is able to heal the hurt, the loneliness, and the scars that are left behind, and He does not place guilt on you for feeling the pain of this obedience.
I am praying for you now that God will bring that healing to your heart in His perfect way and timing. May He comfort you in this loneliness, guard your mind and emotions with His peace, and give you strength to remain separate as He has called you to. May He draw you closer to Himself as your Father, help you to walk in the light with others who share your faith and love for Christ, and lead you in His will for your future. May He use this difficult time to deepen your fellowship with Jesus and to restore joy to you as you trust Him.
You are not alone in this. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and He will be faithful to carry you through this season as you continue to seek Him.
