We join with you in bringing this hurt before the Lord, for we know how painful it is when those closest to us, our own family, look down on us and treat us unjustly.
We hear that your cousins are judging you because they have more money and a better job, and that one of them is mocking you because you recorded a song that mentions God. This kind of envy and contempt is something the Lord sees clearly. The Scripture tells us, For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed James 3:16, and A tranquil heart is the life of the flesh, but envy is the rottenness of the bones Proverbs 14:30. Their judgment based on wealth is not God's measure, for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart 1 Samuel 16:7, and Has not God chosen those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him James 2:5. Their mocking you for honoring God is also not new to Him, for Jesus said, Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven Matthew 5:11-12.
We want to gently encourage you as well. It is easy when we are looked down upon to hold onto hurt, bitterness, or to want to repay them with the same contempt. We must guard our own hearts against returning envy for envy or hatred for hatred. We are called to a different way, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44, and Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:17-19. We encourage you not to let their unjust treatment make you bitter, but to commit your cause to the Lord who judges righteously.
We also notice you mentioned God in your song, which is a beautiful desire to use your gift for His glory, yet you did not mention the name of Jesus in your request. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and that our worship is made acceptable. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. To mention God generally can mean many things to many people, but to lift up the name of Jesus is to proclaim the one who shed His blood for our sins, died, and rose again so that we might be reconciled to God. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, confessing your sins and believing in Him, for then your songs and your life become a true testimony of His grace. Continue to sing boldly for Him, for If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you 1 Peter 4:14.
We pray together for you and for your family.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You together for our dear one who is hurting from envy and mockery within his own family. Lord, You see the way his cousins have judged him and looked down on him for worldly measures of money and position, and how he has been mocked for seeking to honor You with his music. We ask You to comfort his heart and remind him that his worth is not in wealth or status but in being Your child, created for Your purpose. Help him to find his contentment in You, knowing that godliness with contentment is great gain 1 Timothy 6:6, and that You will supply all his needs according to Your riches in glory Philippians 4:19. Give him strength to endure this reproach with grace, to not grow weary in doing good, and to continue to use the gift of music You have given him to glorify the name of Jesus without shame or fear, for we know if God is for us, who can be against us Romans 8:31. Soften the hearts of his cousins, Lord. Remove envy and pride from them and open their eyes to see that they are sinners in need of Your mercy just as we all are. Bring them to repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ, and where possible, bring reconciliation and peace to this family. Help our brother to love them, to pray for them, and to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to leave all justice in Your righteous hands. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to keep your eyes on Christ and not on their approval. Keep recording and singing for the Lord if He has put this on your heart, and do so boldly in the name of Jesus. Pray daily for your cousins by name, blessing them rather than cursing them, and entrust your reputation to God. He saw Joseph envied and rejected by his own brothers, and yet God meant it for good Genesis 50:20. He will use even this trial to refine you and to make you more like Christ if you remain faithful.
