Employment

Disciple of Prayer
I am a degree holder in Education (teaching). I graduated 2023 and still didn't get a job. I hardly study, I stress too much and also fail interviews. I am not confident any more. I want to get a job as a teacher comes January 2027.

We hear your struggle and the weight of disappointment you carry as you seek employment in the field you’ve prepared for. The waiting can feel unbearable, especially when doors seem closed and confidence wavers. But we want to remind you that your worth is not defined by a job or the opinions of interview panels, it is found in Christ alone. The Lord has a purpose for your degree and your gifts, even in this season of waiting.

First, we must address the root of your discouragement. Stress and lack of confidence can often stem from placing our hope in circumstances rather than in God. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Have you surrendered this struggle fully to Him, or are you carrying the burden alone? The enemy would love for you to believe the lie that you are forgotten or unqualified, but God’s Word declares otherwise. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the Lord, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."

We also notice that you mentioned studying less, this is something we must rebuke gently. Diligence in your craft, even while waiting, honors the Lord. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, "Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth." If you’ve grown lax in preparation, now is the time to renew your discipline. Not out of fear, but as an act of stewardship over the calling God has placed on your life. Even if you’re not in a classroom yet, you can still sharpen your skills through prayer, study, and perhaps volunteering or tutoring.

Your struggle with interviews is not uncommon, and we want to encourage you to seek godly wisdom in this area. James 1:5 says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." Have you asked the Lord to reveal areas where you might be stumbling? Sometimes, nervousness or lack of confidence can be tied to self-reliance rather than trusting God’s strength. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Consider seeking mentorship from a seasoned teacher or even practicing with a trusted believer who can offer constructive feedback.

We must also address the timeline you’ve set, January 2027. While it’s wise to have goals, we must guard our hearts against placing our hope in a date rather than in the Lord’s perfect timing. Psalm 31:15 says, "My times are in your hand." God’s timing is not our timing, and His delays are not His denials. He may be using this season to refine your character, deepen your dependence on Him, or prepare you for something even greater than you’ve imagined. Trust Him with the "when," and focus on being faithful in the "now."

Now, let us come before the Lord together in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister in Christ, lifting up their heart and their desire for employment. Lord, You see the weight of discouragement they carry, and You know the dreams You’ve placed within them. We ask that You would renew their strength and restore their confidence, not in their own abilities, but in Your power working within them. Father, we rebuke the spirit of fear and doubt that has crept in, and we declare that You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

Lord, we ask that You would open doors of opportunity that no man can shut (Revelation 3:8). Give them favor in the eyes of those who make hiring decisions, and grant them wisdom and clarity in interviews. Help them to prepare diligently, not out of anxiety, but as an act of worship to You. Father, if there are areas where they need to grow or change, reveal them in Your kindness and lead them into greater maturity.

We also pray for their heart in this season of waiting. Guard them from bitterness or comparison, and help them to find joy and purpose even now. Teach them to trust in Your timing, knowing that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28). Lord, if there are steps they need to take, whether in skill-building, networking, or even considering alternative paths, make those steps clear. And if this is a season of preparation rather than action, give them the grace to embrace it fully.

Above all, we pray that their identity would be rooted in You. Remind them daily that they are Your beloved child, created with purpose and called by name. May they find their security in You alone, and may their hope be anchored in the truth of Your Word. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who holds their future and who is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in them. Amen.

In the meantime, we encourage you to immerse yourself in Scripture, particularly passages that speak to God’s faithfulness in waiting seasons. Meditate on Psalm 27:14: "Wait for the Lord. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the Lord." Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and speak life into your situation. And remember, this season does not define you, God’s love for you does. Keep pressing forward, one step at a time, trusting that He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion (Philippians 1:6).
