Dreams Visions Now, from Holy Spirit ️ While Sleeping, Job 33:12-17; Matt 2:12, Prophecy, Joel 2:28, Numb 12:6, Acts 16:9...Father, we come as little children in faith, contrary to all we see and hear, and thank You, "You are able to save forever those who come to God through Jesus, because He lives to make intercession for us," Heb 7:25, c.f. Rom 8:34.

Heavenly Father, thank You for speaking in many portions and many ways, Heb 1:1, especially through The Foundational Rock of Your Son, 1 Cor 3:11, Heb 1:2-3, and The Holy Spirit through the Apostles, John 16:12-14, and and giving us ability to understand You and Your Word, Luke 24:45, Eph 1:17. We ask for this husband and wife (entire family), that You'd give dreams and counsel, as it is written in Job 33:14, "For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people, as they slumber in their beds, 16 He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, 17 to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, 18 to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword." Again, as with the affairs concerning our father, Abraham, even to those outside the covenants of God, Gen 20:3, like him we are fully persuaded You are able to fulfill what You promise, Rom 4:21. Pour out Your Holy Spirit on her, him, me, us, them, all flesh, as prophesied in in Joel 2:28, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old will dream dreams, your youth will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days," Joel 2:28-29, c.f. Acts 2:17-18. Father, with humble confidence, give her, them, us dreams and visions underlining your will for us in Christ Jesus, as You have done from ancient times on those saved Matt 1:20, Matt 2:12, and unsaved alike, Gen 20:3, Gen 31:24, Dan 2:1, Dan 4:5, until present, Acts 19:6, and You will continue to though the future, Heb 13:8. Your arm is not too short, Num 11:23, especially to save, Isa 50:2, Isa 59:1.

Again, as little children, "we know You can do all things,"Job 42:2, That "nothing shall be impossible with God," Luke 1:27, "The things impossible with man are possible with God," Mark 10:27. Keep her, him, and us from temptation, sin, evil, wrongdoing, lies, fear, evil people, deception, and the evil one, Lk 11:4, 1 Cor 8:1, Zeph 3:13, 2 Cor 13:7, 2 Cor 11:6, 2 Tim 3:5, 2 Tim 3:13, Tit 1:16, 2 Thes 3:2, Matt 24:4, Rev 12:9, Matt 6:13, John 17:15, 2 Thes 3:3. We join with you in this beautiful childlike faith and we thank you for bringing this request before the Lord with so much Scripture and trust in His power.

We agree that our God is living and active and able to speak in many ways. As it is written, God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son Heb 1:1-2. And we rejoice that He still works according to His will. You have rightly remembered that For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction Job 33:14-16. We also remember how God warned the wise men in a dream not to return to Herod Matt 2:12 and how He warned Abimelech in a dream Gen 20:3 and Laban Gen 31:24 and how He spoke to Nebuchadnezzar Dan 2:1 and how Peter saw the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy, It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams Acts 2:17 which was first promised in Joel 2:28.

We want to gently encourage and also give counsel together about dreams and visions now. Yes, we believe God is the same yesterday, today, and forever Heb 13:8 and His arm is not shortened that it cannot save Isa 59:1 and nothing will be impossible with God Luke 1:37. He is able to give dreams, visions, and counsel in the night to turn a person from wrongdoing and to preserve his soul from the pit Job 33:17-18. Yet we also know from Scripture that His most sure and final word to us is the written Word and His Son. We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place 2 Pet 1:19 and All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness 2 Tim 3:16. Therefore any dream, vision, or prophecy must be tested and must agree with Scripture and must exalt Jesus Christ. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God 1 John 4:1. And if a dream or vision ever contradicts the Bible, we must cling to the Bible, for the prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he who has my word, let him speak my word faithfully Jer 23:28.

So we do not seek dreams as our foundation, we seek Christ and His Word, and we humbly ask the Lord if it pleases Him to also confirm and comfort and warn through dreams as He wills, always with discernment and humility.

We pray together for you and for this husband and wife and their entire family.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we come to You as little children and we thank You that You are able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them Heb 7:25. We thank You that Jesus lives and intercedes for us at Your right hand Rom 8:34. Lord, we thank You that You have spoken most clearly through Your Son who is the radiance of Your glory Heb 1:3 and that You have given us Your Spirit to guide us into all truth John 16:13 and that You have opened our minds to understand the Scriptures Luke 24:45.

We ask now for this family, for this husband and wife and their children, that You would pour out Your wisdom and counsel upon them. Grant them deep understanding of Your Word. If it is Your will, speak to them even in the night, in dreams and visions, to turn them from pride, to keep them from evil, to make Your will in Christ Jesus clear to them, and to preserve them from temptation and from the evil one Matt 6:13 and John 17:15. Give them discerning hearts to test all things and to hold fast what is good 1 Thes 5:21. Keep them from deception, from false prophecy, from fear and from the deceiver who deceives the whole world Rev 12:9. Guard them by Your faithfulness, for You are faithful, who will establish and guard them from the evil one 2 Thes 3:3.

We ask You to fulfill Your promises in their lives as You did for Abraham, for we are fully assured that what You have promised, You are also able to perform Rom 4:21. Let them walk by faith and not by sight, with confidence that You do all things well and that with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible Mark 10:27. We pray that they would be rooted and built up in Christ, established in the faith, abounding in thanksgiving Col 2:7.

We thank You in advance, believing that whatever we ask in prayer, believing, we will receive Mark 11:24, for without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to You Heb 11:6. We ask all this in the faithful and true Name of Jesus, the Amen Rev 3:14, in whom all the promises of God are Yes and Amen to Your glory 2 Cor 1:20. Amen.

We appreciate the tender way you came as little children before the Father, asking Him to watch over your family and lead you. That posture of trust is precious to Him, and we join you in it.

We hear your longing for clear guidance for you, your husband and your whole household, and for the Lord to make His will known even as you sleep. We love that you want to stay close to Jesus and be kept from anything that would pull you away from Him.

As you continue to seek Him, we have found it helps to keep the main things central together. Stay rooted in prayer and in God's Word as your sure guide, and when a dream or strong impression comes, bring it before the Lord together, weigh it gently against what you know of His character and Word, and talk it through with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you. The Holy Spirit is our Helper and Counselor, and He delights to give wisdom, peace and discernment as we walk with Him day by day, not only in the night.

We are praying for you both for restful sleep, for protection, and for quiet confidence in His leading.

Father, thank You for this family who wants to follow You with childlike faith. We ask You to guard them, give them wisdom and peace, and lead them step by step in Your will. Keep them close to Jesus and help them sense Your presence and direction. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your coming as little children before the Father is itself a gracious work, for except the Holy Spirit quicken us we are dead in trespasses and sins and cannot so come. We thank God with you that He is able to save forever those who come to God through Jesus, because He lives to make intercession for us, and we rest upon that one Mediator who alone is the way to the Father.

You ask concerning dreams and visions in the night, whether the Holy Spirit speaks thus now, and you cite Job and Joel and Matthew and Acts. It is true that God did speak in times past in many portions and many ways, and in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, He did warn and turn them from wrongdoing to preserve them from the pit. It is true also that Joel prophesied, your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and Peter declared that word fulfilled when the Holy Spirit was poured out at Pentecost. And yet the same Scripture tells us that God has in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, and that the Holy Spirit when He is come will receive of Mine and show it unto you, for He shall glorify Me.

Here we must learn entire dependence upon the Holy Spirit and what His blessed office truly is. The Holy Spirit does not come to magnify outward signs or curious trifles, nor to lead us gadding about after new revelations apart from Christ. His delight is to deal with the things of Christ, to take the things of Christ and reveal them to our hearts, to make the narrow heart of man, though it be but a cottage and unclean, His palace and continual abode. He awakens the mind, He gives love for God where there was hatred, He alone can make a man holy, He alone can teach us and enable us to pray in the Holy Spirit and not in the flesh. Without Him there is no life and no power, and with Him even our weakest endeavor prospers because He is the source and force of our life within.

Therefore we would not have you grieve the Holy Spirit by unbelief on the one hand, nor by seeking visions above the Word on the other. The Spirit is grieved when we walk not according to the Gospel and when we put confidence in anything save Christ. Do not be among those of whom it must be said, we have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Spirit, but neither seek to extol a dream above the sure Word which the Spirit Himself inspired. If God in His sovereignty does give a dream to warn or comfort, it will never contradict the Scripture and it will always glorify Christ, for that is the test, that teaching is not of the Holy Spirit which does not glorify the Lord Jesus. The safest and most blessed way is to ask the Holy Spirit to open your understanding that you may understand the Scriptures, as He opened the disciples minds, and to seal your faith by His own impress, so that you know Him not as an it but as a Person dwelling in you.

So we pray for this husband and wife and entire family, and for you who intercede for them, that you may indeed receive the Holy Spirit since you believed, that you may know Him and be known to be His, that the seal be not torn away by sin or unbelief. We ask the Father to keep you all from temptation and from evil and from the evil one, to keep you from wrongdoing and pride and deception, to preserve you from the pit, and to cause His Word to dwell richly in you. May He grant you not so much strange sights in the night as a clear sight of Christ in the Word by day, and a heart that hears His voice today and hardens not, for the Holy Spirit still says, Today if you will hear His voice. May you be kept praying in the Holy Spirit, in His power and by His help, and may Christ be glorified in you above all.

We join our Amen to yours, trusting not in dreams but in Him who is the same yesterday and today and forever, and asking all in the name of Jesus, who ever lives to intercede for us.

We have received your prayer and thank God for your childlike trust in His power and in the intercession of His Son, who indeed lives to save forever those who come to God through Him.

You ask that God would speak to this husband and wife and their family through dreams and visions in the night, and you rightly remember that God has spoken in many portions and many ways, and that in Scripture He at times warned and directed souls even in sleep, as with Joseph and the wise men, and as Elihu describes in Job. We rejoice that you believe God is able to do all things and that nothing is impossible with Him, for His arm is not shortened that it cannot save.

Yet we would counsel you with care from the Scriptures. The same Word that tells us God spoke in dreams also tells us that in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, and that the Holy Spirit speaking through the apostles has given us the sure and sufficient Word of God. Joel's promise that sons and daughters would prophesy and old men dream dreams was poured out at Pentecost, and its fulfillment is seen in the apostolic foundation of the Church, with Christ Himself as the rock. We do not now seek new revelations beyond what God has given, but we seek understanding of what He has already spoken, praying as you did that God would open our eyes to understand the Scriptures.

For this reason we urge you not to set your hope on pursuing dreams or visions as a guide, nor to measure God's nearness by whether such things occur. Dreams can be uncertain, and the heart can be deceived. The Scriptures call us instead to sobriety, to a collected and orderly soul, to holiness and peace. When the heart is not burdened and the life is ordered in fear of God, sleep itself is composed and restful, and the mind is not filled with wild fancies and monstrous visions. So it is with the soul that walks closely with Christ. True guidance comes through His Word read, prayed over, and obeyed, through the faithful teaching of the Church, and through prayer in the Spirit.

For this husband and wife we pray that God would keep their marriage honorable and pure, as He ordained it. Marriage is a bond ordained of God, and holiness in marriage is chaste and faithful love, each belonging wholly to the other, forsaking all others, and living in peace. If you are given leisure or quietness, use it for prayer, for service to the saints, and for every good work, for that is the purpose of Christian freedom, not to condemn what God has called good, but to use all things with moderation and thanksgiving.

Therefore let us pray together for them in this way.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that Jesus Christ ever lives to intercede for us. Give to this husband and wife and their household a love for Your Word and a clear understanding of it. Grant them wisdom to discern Your will in Christ, to follow peace with all and holiness without which no one will see the Lord. Keep them from temptation, from deception, from fear, from the evil one, and from every false way. Let their home be adorned not with display but with gentleness, modesty, faithfulness, and order. If it is Your will to warn or comfort them in any way, do so according to Your perfect wisdom, but above all let them hear the sure voice of Your Son in Scripture and be kept from the pit and from pride. Make them steadfast in faith, trusting not in dreams but in Your promises which are Yes and Amen in Christ. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.

Thank you for bringing this request with such faith and with so much Scripture. It is good to come as little children, trusting that Jesus lives to intercede for those who come to God through Him, and that nothing is impossible with God.

You asked about dreams and visions now, while sleeping, and whether the Holy Spirit still speaks in that way. Scripture shows that God at many times and in many ways has spoken to people through dreams and through visions. A dream comes when a person is asleep, a vision comes when a person is awake and suddenly sees what God shows him, sometimes in a trance, sometimes as a night vision that is like a dream and yet not a dream. In both cases the message has often been symbolic and has needed an interpretation that only God can give.

You see this all through the Bible. God warned Abimelech in a dream, spoke to Jacob and to Laban in dreams, gave Joseph dreams about his future, gave the cupbearer and the baker each a dream in one night with one meaning for each, and gave Pharaoh two dreams that were really one message about seven years of plenty and seven years of famine. Joseph was careful to say it was not in him to interpret, but God would give the answer. In the same way Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar that God had shown the king what would come to pass, and God gave the interpretation. In the New Testament Joseph was warned in a dream to take the child and go to Egypt because Herod sought His life, and the wise men were warned in a dream not to return to Herod. The prophets also declared what they had seen, Ezekiel and Daniel and Zechariah who describes seeing by night a man riding on a red horse and other visions that needed the Lord to explain them. Where God interprets, we can understand. Where He does not, we can only guess, though Scripture does show a consistency in symbols, for example the field often pictures the world and oil pictures the Holy Spirit.

Some have taught that once the Scriptures were complete God no longer speaks through dreams and visions. Yet the prophet Joel promised that in the last days God would pour out His Spirit on all flesh, and sons and daughters would prophesy, young men would see visions and old men would dream dreams, and Peter quoted that promise on the day of Pentecost. That promise looks forward even to the time of tribulation. So we remain open. God is able to speak in this way if He chooses, and He has preserved people from the pit, turned them from wrongdoing and kept them from pride through a warning in the night, as Job 33 describes. At the same time God has spoken most fully and finally through His Son, and through the Holy Spirit working through the apostles whose teaching we have in Scripture. The foundation is Christ, and the Scriptures are the sure and clear way God makes His will known and gives us understanding.

For you as a husband and wife and for your whole family, the best place to seek counsel is first in the Word of God, with prayer that the Lord would open your understanding as He opened the understanding of His disciples. If the Lord does give a dream or vision, it will never contradict Scripture, it will always agree with what He has already said and it will point to Christ and to holiness. Every such impression should be tested by the Word, prayed over, and weighed with wise counsel.

So we pray with you in that humble confidence. Heavenly Father, thank You that You are able to save completely those who come to You through Jesus, because He ever lives to intercede. Thank You for speaking in many portions and in many ways, and above all through Your Son, and by Your Spirit through the apostles, and for giving us the ability to understand Your Word. We ask for this family, that You would lead them clearly, keep them from temptation and from evil and deception and from the evil one, turn them from any wrong way, keep them from pride, and preserve them in Your way.
