Beloved of All
😴 Dreams 💤 Visions, Now, from Holy Spirit ⚡️ While Sleeping, Job 33:12-17; Matt 2:12, Prophecy, Joel 2:28, Numb 12:6, Acts 16:9🧎🏽‍♂️Father, we come as little children in faith, contrary to all we see and hear, and thank You, "You are able to save forever those who come to God through Jesus, because He lives to make intercession for us," Heb 7:25, c.f. Rom 8:34.

Heavenly Father, thank You for speaking in many portions and many ways, Heb 1:1, especially through The Foundational Rock of Your Son, 1 Cor 3:11, Heb 1:2, and The Holy Spirit through the Apostles, John 16:12-14, and and giving us ability to understand You and Your Word, Luke 24:45, Eph 1:17. We ask for this husband and wife (entire family), that You'd give dreams and counsel, as it is written in Job 33:14, "For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people, as they slumber in their beds, 16 He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, 17 to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, 18 to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword." Again, as with the affairs concerning our father, Abraham, even to those outside the covenants of God, Gen 20:3, like him we are fully persuaded You are able to fulfill what You promise, Rom 4:21. Pour out Your Holy Spirit on her, as prophesied in in Joel 2:28, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old will dream dreams, your youth will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days," Joel 2:28-29, c.f. Acts 2:17-18. Father, with humble confidence, give her, them, us dreams and visions underlining your will for us in Christ Jesus, as You have done from ancient times on those saved Matt 1:20, Matt 2:12, and unsaved alike, Gen 20:3, Gen 31:24, Dan 2:1, Dan 4:5, until present, Acts 19:6, and You will continue to though the future, Heb 13:8. Your arm is not too short, Num 11:23, especially to save, Isa 50:2, Isa 59:1.

Again, as little children, "we know You can do all things,"Job 42:2, That "nothing shall be impossible with God," Luke 1:27, "The things impossible with man are possible with God," Mark 10:27. Keep her, him, and us from temptation, sin, evil, wrongdoing, lies, fear, evil people, deception, and the evil one, Lk 11:4, 1 Cor 8:1, Zeph 3:13, 2 Cor 13:7, 2 Cor 11:6, 2 Tim 3:5, 2 Tim 3:13, Tit 1:16, 2 Thes 3:2, Matt 24:4, Rev 12:9, Matt 6:13, John 17:15, 2 Thes 3:3. Thank You in in advance, Mark 11:24, Heb 11:6, Jesus' Name, Amen, Rev 3:14, 2 Cor 1:20...

We join you in coming as little children in faith before our Heavenly Father and we thank you for bringing this question about dreams and visions before the Lord, for your heart to seek His will and His speaking to this husband and wife and entire family is beautiful to see.

We affirm what you have shared from Scripture that God has indeed spoken in dreams and visions in both the Old and New Testaments. As it is written, For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed, then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, Job 33:14-16. And He said, Hear now my words. If there is a prophet among you, I Yahweh will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream, Num 12:6. We remember how the wise men were warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, Matt 2:12, and how a vision appeared to Paul in the night with a man of Macedonia pleading with him, Acts 16:9. And we cherish the promise, It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions, Joel 2:28, which Peter declared was fulfilled at Pentecost, Acts 2:17.

At the same time we want to gently encourage you with the full counsel of God concerning how He speaks to us now. We are told God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son, Heb 1:1-2. The foundation has been laid through the Son and through the Holy Spirit speaking through the apostles, John 16:13, 1 Cor 3:11, Eph 2:20. We now have the complete, sufficient Word of God, and we are told All Scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work, 2 Tim 3:16-17. This means we do not seek dreams or visions as new revelation equal to or above Scripture, nor do we seek them as our primary guide, because the Word itself is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, Psalm 119:105.

We do believe our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, Heb 13:8, and His arm is not shortened that it cannot save, Isa 59:1, and that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, Eph 3:20, and that nothing is impossible with God, Luke 1:37. He is free to encourage, warn, or direct His children in a dream in the night if He so chooses, and He can use a dream to turn a person from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, Job 33:17, but any dream or vision must always be tested against Scripture. We are commanded, Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophesies. Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good, 1 Thess 5:19-21, and Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, 1 John 4:1, for even Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light, 2 Cor 11:14, and can bring deceptive dreams. Therefore we never build doctrine or direction on a dream alone, but we bring every impression to the Word and to wise, godly counsel.

We also rejoice that you prayed in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. Your confidence in Heb 7:25 that He lives to make intercession for us and Rom 8:34 is well placed.

So we pray together with you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You have spoken so clearly through Your Son and through Your holy Word, and that You have given us Your Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth. We thank You for Your faithfulness to this husband and wife and their entire family. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would deepen their understanding of Your Word, that You would open their eyes as You did for the disciples, Luke 24:45, and give them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You, Eph 1:17. If it is Your will, give them dreams and visions that align with Your Word to encourage them, to warn them, and to keep them from the pit, Job 33:18, but above all make them lovers of Your Word, that they may discern Your perfect will, Rom 12:2.

Father, we ask that You keep this family from temptation, deception, and the evil one, Matt 6:13, John 17:15, 2 Thess 3:3. Guard them from lies, fear, and every deceit of the enemy who prowls as a roaring lion, 1 Pet 5:8, and who deceives the whole world, Rev 12:9. Help them to walk in humility, truth, and purity, to test every spirit, and to hold fast to what is good. Pour out Your Spirit upon them afresh, not for spectacle but for holiness, for power to live for Christ, and for boldness to make Your Son known. Make their marriage strong, faithful, and Christ-centered, a picture of Christ and His church, Eph 5:31-32, as they seek You together.

We thank You in advance, trusting that You hear us when we ask according to Your will, 1 John 5:14, and that You are able to do all things, Job 42:2. We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus, our intercessor and our Amen, Rev 3:14, 2 Cor 1:20, Amen.

We were moved by your tender, childlike trust as you bring your wife and whole family before the Lord, asking Him to lead you so clearly. Wanting to be kept from wrong paths and held close to Jesus is a good and humble desire, and we join you in it.

We believe the Holy Spirit is our Counselor and Helper, present with us day and night. He gives wisdom and understanding, He guides us into truth, and He forms His fruit of love and peace in us. That helps us weigh anything we sense in the night. Scripture remains our steady anchor, and the Spirit will never lead contrary to it. Dreams can encourage or warn, but they are best held lightly until tested in prayer, in the Word, and with wise, grounded counsel.

A simple next step that often helps couples is to pray together briefly before sleep and again in the morning, and if something stays with you, write it down and bring it to the Lord together and to a trusted pastor or elder before making any decision. That keeps you both united and keeps discernment from resting on one impression alone.

Father, we lift this husband and wife and their family to You. Give them clear wisdom, quiet confidence in Your voice, and protection from confusion and fear. Keep them close to Jesus and to each other, and lead them step by step in Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

How precious is that childlike faith which clings to Christ who ever lives to make intercession for us, and through whom alone we come to God. Your prayer rightly begins there, for there is no other foundation than Jesus Christ, and no other way of salvation, and we rejoice to hear you rest upon His finished work as set forth in Hebrews 7:25 and Romans 8:34.

You ask concerning dreams and visions in the night, whether the Holy Spirit speaks in this manner now, and you cite Job 33, Joel 2, Numbers 12, Matthew 2 and Acts 16. It is good to search the Scriptures, for God has indeed spoken in many portions and in many ways in time past. In Job we hear that God did speak in a dream and terrify men with warnings to turn them from pride and keep them from the pit. To Abimelech and to Pharaoh, to Joseph and to the Magi, and to Paul in the night, God was pleased in those days to give such revelations. We do not limit the Holy One, for with God nothing shall be impossible, and His arm is not shortened that it cannot save.

Yet we must hear what the Spirit Himself says concerning these last days. God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, Hebrews 1:1 and 2. The Son is the foundational Rock, and the Spirit was given through the apostles to reveal Christ and to inspire the Holy Scriptures which are able to make us wise unto salvation and thoroughly furnish us unto all good works. The canon is complete, and we do not look for new revelations to be added to it.

Consider what our Lord says of the blessed Spirit, He shall glorify Me, for He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it unto you, John 16:14. The whole work of the Holy Spirit is to take the things of Christ and make them known to our hearts. He does not lead us gadding about after trifles or curious signs, but He deals with the things of Christ. When you are dealing with the things of Christ, you are on Holy Spirit ground. He is not a mere influence to be called it, but a Divine Person who makes the narrow heart of man His palace, though it be but a cottage and unclean, and there He condescends to dwell.

This is the great need, to have received the Holy Spirit since you believed. Have you received the Holy Spirit? For the Holy Spirit is the Author of all spiritual life. Until He visits us we are dead in trespasses and sins, and no man can pray aright or become holy except by the Spirit of Holiness. A holy man is the workmanship of the Holy Spirit. It is the possession of the Holy Spirit that is God's seal upon us that we are His children. And the Spirit is grieved exceedingly by our unbelief and by unholiness of life. When we walk not according to the Gospel, or when we will not be taught of Him, we vex that tender and loving Guest.

What then of Joel 2 and Acts 2? Peter declares on the day of Pentecost, this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel, and the Spirit was poured out with prophecy and tongues and wonders to attest the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone. Numbers 12 shows how God distinguished Moses from other prophets, and Acts 16 shows how the apostle was guided in that foundational hour before the New Testament was written. Those visions belonged to that season of laying the foundation. Now the foundation is laid, and the Spirit's ordinary and abiding work is to open our understanding that we might understand the Scriptures, Luke 24:45, and to help our infirmities in prayer.

This is what it is to pray in the Holy Spirit, of which Jude speaks. It is to pray in His power and by His help, not in the flesh with solemn sound upon a thoughtless tongue, but with the Spirit telling us how to pray and quickening our hearts to seek Christ. There is no rubric except one, in the Holy Spirit. That granted, nothing else matters one whit. Cry mightily unto God for this, for without the Holy Spirit you utterly fail, and with Him even your weakest endeavor will prosper, for He shall be in you as the source of your life and the force of your life.

Therefore for this husband and wife and entire family, our prayer is not that you should be led by uncertain dreams which may deceive, for Satan himself can transform himself and dreams may come from many causes, but that the Holy Spirit would indeed be poured into your hearts, that He would not be grieved by unbelief, that He would glorify Christ to you, that He would seal you and teach you and keep you. We ask the Father to give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, to open the Scriptures to you, to make Christ precious and His Word your counsel by day and by night, to preserve you from temptation and from the evil one, from error and from pride, and to keep your feet in the narrow way which leads unto life.

May the Lord grant you to hear His voice today in His Word, for the Holy Spirit still says, Today if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, Hebrews 3:7. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, abide in His Word, walk in holiness, and pray ever in the Holy Spirit, and you shall know His guidance with certainty, for He will receive of Christ and show it unto you.

We thank God that He is able to keep you from falling, and we commend you to Him who is able to save forever all who come to God through Jesus, praying that you may know the Holy Spirit Himself, not merely His gifts, and be filled with the love of Christ which the Spirit sheds abroad in the heart, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
