We join with you in this beautiful childlike faith and we thank you for bringing this request before the Lord with such reverence for His Word and such confidence in His power to speak.
We agree that our God does indeed still speak and that He has spoken in dreams and visions from ancient times until now. As you have quoted, For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed, then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man Job 33:14-17. And we remember the promise, It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions Joel 2:28 which was poured out at Pentecost as Peter declared in Acts 2:17. We also remember how the Lord said, If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision, I will speak with him in a dream Num 12:6, and how Joseph was warned in a dream Matt 1:20 and the wise men were warned in a dream not to return to Herod Matt 2:12, and how Paul saw a vision in the night in Acts 16:9.
At the same time we gently remind ourselves and you that while God can and does give dreams, His chief and final and most sure speaking to us now is through His Son and through the Holy Scriptures given by the Holy Spirit through the apostles and prophets. God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son Heb 1:1-2. The Scriptures are our sure foundation and our test for every dream, vision, and prophecy, for Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work 2 Tim 3:16-17. For this reason we are told, Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophesies. Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good 1 Thess 5:19-21 and Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God 1 John 4:1. A dream from the Lord will never contradict His written Word, will always exalt Christ, will call us to holiness and humility, and will be confirmed by the Spirit and the Word together. The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream, and he who has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat, says Yahweh Jer 23:28.
We love your humble confidence that nothing is impossible with God Luke 1:37 and that what is impossible with men is possible with God Mark 10:27 and that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think Eph 3:20. We also love that you come only through Jesus, for you rightly thanked Him who is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them Heb 7:25, for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Tim 2:5 and In no other is there salvation, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12.
So we pray together now for this husband and wife and their entire family, and for ourselves as well,
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son we come as little children, and we thank You that You desire to lead and counsel Your people. We ask that You would pour out Your Spirit upon this husband and wife and their household and upon us, and that You would give wisdom and understanding and reveal Your will in Christ Jesus. If it pleases You, speak to them even in the night as they slumber, as You did for Your servants of old, to turn them from wrongdoing and to keep them from pride and to preserve them from the pit Job 33:17-18, and to guide them in the way they should go. Give them dreams and visions that are clearly from You if You so will, and give them also the discernment to test all things against Your holy Word.
We pray that You would seal Your instruction upon their hearts, that You would speak to them most of all through Your Word as Your Spirit opens their eyes, as You opened the minds of the disciples that they might understand the Scriptures Luke 24:45. Grant to them the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You Eph 1:17. Lead them into all truth as Your Spirit guides John 16:13, and keep them from temptation, from evil, from deception, and from the evil one Matt 6:13, John 17:15, 2 Thess 3:3. Let no lying vision or deceiving spirit have place among them, for You have warned that false prophets and deceivers will arise Matt 24:4, Rev 12:9, and we ask You to guard this family under the shadow of Your wings Psalm 91:1.
We thank You in advance, believing that You hear us when we ask according to Your will 1 John 5:14 and that whatever we ask in prayer, believing, we will receive Mark 11:24. We entrust this family to You, that their marriage and their home would honor You, that they would walk humbly and faithfully before You all their days, and that whether by Your Word, by Your still small voice 1 Kings 19:12, or by a dream in the night, they would hear and obey. We ask this with thanksgiving, trusting that You who began a good work in them will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ Phil 1:6, and we pray all these things in the saving and mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
