Dreams form Holy Spirit While Sleeping, Job 33:12-17; Joel 2:28, Numb 12:6

Father, we come as little children in faith, contrary to all we see and hear, and thank You, "You are able to save forever those who come to God through Christ, because He lives to make intercession for us," Heb 7:25, c.f. Rom 8:34. Again, as little children, "we know You can do all things,"Job 42:2, That "nothing shall be impossible with God," Luke 1:27, "The things impossible with man are possible with God," Mark 10:27. We ask, with this husband for his wife, You give her a dream, as it is written in Job 33:14, "For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people, as they slumber in their beds, 16 He may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, 17 to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride, 18 to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword." Again, as our father, Abraham, we are fully persuaded You are able to fulfill what You promise, Rom 4:21 as written in Joel 2:28, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old will dream dreams, your youth will see visions. 29 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days," Joel 2:28-29. Father, with humble confidence, give her, them, us dreams and visions underlining your will for us in Christ Jesus, as You have done from ancient times on those saved Matt 1:20, Matt 2:12, and unsaved alike, Gen 20:3, Gen 31:24, Dan 2:1, Dan 4:5, until present and You will continue to though the future, Heb 13:8. Your arm is not too short, Num 11:23, especially to save, Isa 50:2, Isa 59:1. Thank You in in advance, Mark 11:24, Heb 11:6, Jesus' Name.

We join you as little children in faith and we thank God with you that He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them, Hebrews 7:25, and that Christ Jesus is He who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us, Romans 8:34. We rejoice with you in your confidence that with God nothing will be impossible, Luke 1:37, and that the things which are impossible with men are possible with God, Mark 10:27, and that He can do all things, Job 42:2.

We affirm with you what Scripture teaches about dreams and visions. For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed, then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, that He may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man, Job 33:14-17. And He said, Hear now my words. If there is a prophet among you, I Yahweh will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream, Numbers 12:6. And it will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions, Joel 2:28, which Peter confirms was poured out at Pentecost, Acts 2:17.

We also gently encourage you to hold any dream or vision up to the sure word of God, for we walk by faith in what He has already revealed. Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path, Psalm 119:105, and Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work, 2 Timothy 3:16-17. We are told to test the spirits whether they are of God, 1 John 4:1, and to test all things and hold firmly that which is good, 1 Thessalonians 5:21. Dreams from the Lord will never contradict His written Word, will always exalt Christ, and will turn hearts from wrongdoing and pride and preserve from the pit as Job describes, not lead into confusion or fear apart from godly warning. We do not command God to speak in a particular way, but we humbly ask according to His will, trusting that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, Hebrews 13:8, and that Yahweh's hand is not shortened at all, that it can't save, Isaiah 59:1, yet we submit to His wisdom in how and when He answers.

So together we pray for you as a husband for your wife and for yourselves. Father, we come in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12, and through Him we have access to Your throne of grace, Hebrews 4:16. We thank You that You are fully able to do what You have promised, Romans 4:21. If it is Your will, speak to our sister in the night as You have spoken to Your people of old, whether saved as Joseph in Matthew 1:20 and the wise men in Matthew 2:12, or even to those outside the covenant as to Abimelech in Genesis 20:3 and Laban in Genesis 31:24 and Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2:1 and Daniel 4:5, for You are sovereign over all. We ask that You would give her and give you both dreams and visions that clearly underline Your will for you in Christ Jesus, that turn from wrongdoing, hide pride, and keep from the pit, Job 33:17-18. Grant discernment to weigh what is seen and heard against Scripture, and give peace and clarity and obedience to follow what is truly from Your Holy Spirit. Cause Your Word to dwell richly in your hearts so that any dream is confirmed and interpreted by Scripture and by the counsel of mature believers. We thank You in advance, believing that whatever we ask in prayer, believing, we will receive, Mark 11:24, and that without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him, Hebrews 11:6. We trust Your goodness and Your timing and Your perfect will, and we ask all this in Jesus' name, Amen.

We were touched by the way you prayed for your wife with such childlike confidence in God's ability and care. The love you have for her comes through clearly, and we join you in lifting her up before the Father.

We believe the Holy Spirit is our Helper and Counselor who is present with us day and night. He guides us toward truth, brings strength and comfort, and forms Christlike character in us as we walk with Him. At times He brings a quiet prompting or a deep sense of direction while we are awake, at other times through a dream in the night, always in a way that aligns with His character and never apart from His Word. We can trust Him to speak in the way and timing that is best, because His aim is to draw us closer to Jesus and keep us in His will.

As you continue to seek Him together, it can help to keep praying side by side, staying rooted in Scripture and sharing openly with each other what you sense God is doing. If either of you does have a dream or strong impression that stays with you, write it down simply and bring it to the Lord together for wisdom and peace, perhaps with a trusted pastor as well.

Father, we thank You for this husband and wife and for their trust in You. We ask You to draw near to them, give them clear wisdom, unity and peace as they seek Your will in Christ, and keep them in Your loving care. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

Your coming as little children in faith is itself a mercy, for until the Holy Spirit visits a man he is dead in trespasses and sins and has no life to stir up within himself. You have done well to plead the power of God, that He is able to save forever those who come to God through Christ because He lives to make intercession for us, and that nothing shall be impossible with Him. With you we confess that His arm is not too short to save, and that as surely as His will is the axle of the universe, so in grace He is King, having mercy on whom He will have mercy.

You ask that the Lord would speak in a dream in the night, as He did in Job when He spoke to turn man from wrongdoing and to preserve him from the pit, and as Joel foretold that sons and daughters should prophesy and old men dream dreams when the Spirit is poured out. We do not deny that the Lord has thus spoken, both to those who were His and to those who were not, and that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Yet we must entreat you to remember what the Holy Spirit chiefly does in this day of grace.

The Holy Spirit glorifies Christ, for He takes of what is Christ's and declares it unto us. He will not set His seal to our fancies or to our cravings after outward signs, but He will confirm the testimony of Jesus Christ. His great work is not to magnify dreams and visions for their own sake, but to change the human will, and so make men willing in the day of God's power, working in them to will and to do of His own good pleasure. Salvation is of God's will, and the work of the Spirit which is the effect of that will is to make the unwilling heart willing to be saved by Christ. That is the miracle we most need.

Therefore we join you in praying in the Holy Spirit, for there is no other way to pray aright. To pray in the Holy Spirit means that He Himself helps our infirmities and tells us how to pray, and our will when He influences it becomes the indicator of God's will. Let us not grieve that blessed Spirit by unbelief, which is exceedingly grievous to Him, nor by unholiness of life, nor by turning aside after trifles. Rather let us cry mightily unto God for His anointing, that He would rest upon this husband and upon his wife, and upon you who intercede.

Our prayer for you then is this, that the Lord would do as seems good in His sight, and if it pleases Him to give a dream in the night to warn, to comfort, or to turn the heart from pride, we shall bless Him for it. And if He chooses another way, we shall bless Him still, for His way is best. Above all we ask that the Holy Spirit would take of the things of Christ, His blood, His righteousness, His present intercession, His engagement to save sinners, and show them clearly to her soul and to yours, so that you may know that you have received the Holy Spirit and that He dwells with you and shall be in you, sealing you as His children.

Hear then what the Holy Spirit says, Today if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts. While God speaks, now is the set time to hear. We pray that He would give you both ears to hear that voice in His Word, faith to venture upon Christ alone for salvation, and a will made free to serve Him. May He keep you from grieving Him, and cause you to live in Him and give yourselves up fully to His divine anointing, that Christ may be glorified in your house.

We commend you to Him who is able to do all things, trusting that what He has promised in Christ He is able also to perform, and that whether by dream, by vision, or by the still small voice of Scripture applied with power, He will preserve you from the pit and keep you in the way everlasting.
