Dishonesty

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, we come before you.
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
We thank you for your presence in our lives.
Thank you for fighting for us and blessing us with heavenly gifts.
Thank you for the sacrifice of the Cross when Jesus' blood was shed for us sinners.
Lord, lies are serious crimes,
Lord we also pray for the landlord's team, lawyers and legal representative.
Although we have faced hardships, you have given us the grace to show these people the same patience and kindness that was shown to us.
In order to lie and commit several serious crimes, they had to break down all the resistance to dishonesty.
Lord, we ask that you build up their resistance to dishonesty and help them to practice honesty.
Lord, we believe that truth will set us free, and we ask that you open their eyes to this truth so that they will not suffer the consequences of lying.
We dedicate our lives to you and surrender our will to you.

We join you in this prayer and we thank you for coming before the Father in the name of Jesus, for we agree that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life as it is written in John 14:6 and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. We are encouraged by your thankfulness for His presence, for the heavenly gifts He pours out, and for the sacrifice of the cross where His blood was shed for us sinners, and we are deeply moved by the grace you have shown in praying with patience and kindness for those who have caused you hardship.

We agree with you that lies are serious before God. Scripture is very clear that dishonesty is not a small matter but sin that separates and destroys. Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight in Proverbs 12:22 and we are told there are six things that Yahweh hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to him, including a lying tongue and a false witness who utters lies in Proverbs 6:16-19. We are commanded therefore to put away falsehood, and speak truth each one with his neighbor in Ephesians 4:25 and to not lie to one another in Colossians 3:9. You are right to ask God to build up a resistance to dishonesty in these hearts, because when people persist in deceit they must harden their conscience to do so, and only God can soften and convict and open their eyes again.

We also hold fast to the promise you have prayed, that you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free in John 8:32. The freedom Christ gives is not only from the consequences of sin but from the bondage of living a lie, and we pray that same freedom over this landlord's team, the lawyers and legal representatives you have mentioned.

We pray together now, Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus we come before You and we thank You that You are a God of truth and that every word You speak is faithful and true. We lift up this situation to You and we ask You to shine Your light upon every dishonest word and deed. We pray for the landlord, for every member of his team, for the lawyers and legal representatives, that You would convict their hearts, that You would not allow them to be comfortable in falsehood, but that You would build in them a holy resistance to lying and a hunger for honesty. Open their eyes to see that a lie may seem to bring advantage for a moment but it brings judgment and sorrow in the end, and that truth alone sets us free. Bring them to repentance, that if they have sinned they may confess and forsake it and find mercy as You promise in 1 John 1:9. We pray that You would protect our brother and sister who has been wronged from bitterness, and that You would continue to give them grace to overcome evil with good as taught in Romans 12:21, to love and pray for those who have opposed them while also trusting You for justice, for we know that vengeance belongs to You and You will repay in Romans 12:19. Grant wisdom to navigate the legal hardships with integrity, give favor where truth is spoken, and let Your will be done. We surrender our lives and our will to You anew, asking that Your name be honored in this matter and that Your peace which passes understanding will guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in truth and in kindness, continuing to speak the truth in love as in Ephesians 4:15, keeping your own lips from deceit even when others do not, and trusting that God sees all that is done in secret and will bring justice in His perfect time. Continue to pray for those who have wronged you, that they may come to know Jesus who is the Truth Himself, and continue to surrender your will to the Father daily, for He is faithful to fight for you and to bless you as you walk in His ways.

Thank you for sharing this prayer with us. We hear both the weight you have carried with this landlord situation and the grace you have shown in choosing patience and kindness even while facing hardships. It is not easy to keep praying for the very people whose dishonesty has hurt you, and we are grateful for your desire to see truth prevail not only for your sake but for theirs.

One thing that has helped others in similar conflicts is remembering that choosing to release the desire for payback is different from pretending the wrong did not happen or from trusting again right away. You can hold firmly to the truth, keep clear records and seek wise counsel, while also asking God to guard your heart from resentment so that bitterness does not take root. That inner work often takes time, and it is okay if peace comes gradually.

We are standing with you as you continue to walk honestly before the Lord and surrender your will to Him.

Father, we bring this situation to You in Jesus' name. We ask You to strengthen our friend to continue in honesty and patience, to bring truth into the light in Your timing, and to work in the hearts of the landlord, lawyers and all involved so that they turn toward honesty. Give wisdom for each next decision and guard them with Your peace. Amen.

Your prayer has been heard and we join with you in it, for it is a prayer according to the mind of God who is light and in whom is no darkness at all.

You have done well to come in the name of Jesus who is the way, the truth and the life, and to plead his blood shed for sinners. There is no other footing on which a guilty man may meet with a holy God. As it has been preached among us, God is light, that is truth, for he can neither err nor break his word, and therefore he cannot smile on anything that is false. If there be upon our lip a false word, or in our heart a false thought, so far we are out of the sphere in which God can have fellowship with us. To walk in darkness and to claim fellowship with him is to lie and not do the truth. Therefore your petition that the Lord would build up in these men a resistance to dishonesty is most needful, for sincerity is indispensable to mercy, and there must be a dealing with God in truth before he can put away iniquity.

We commend also the spirit of patience and kindness which grace has wrought in you toward the landlord's team and their lawyers and representatives. We wrestle not with flesh and blood. Our war is not with men but with Satan and with error. We are to love the persons of men while we smite their sin with a stout heart. You are right to pray for them rather than to curse them, and to ask that the truth which makes free might open their eyes, lest they suffer the bitter consequences of lying.

Buy the truth and sell it not, says the wise man. Buy it at any price. Let it be not only truth on the tongue but truth within, wrought in the soul by the Holy Spirit, truth in doctrine, truth in the heart, truth in the life, and Christ himself who is the truth to be your treasure forever. He will deal with you truthfully and will never cast away a sinner that comes to him according to truth.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, who art light and truth, we confess that apart from thy grace we also are prone to wander. Wash us in the atoning blood and make us to love truth in the inward parts. We bring before thee these men who have dealt falsely, the landlord and his team, the lawyers and representatives. Thou knowest all things and with ignorance thou hast no affinity. Convict them of sin, turn them from falsehood, and build in them a hatred for lies and a love for honesty. Open their eyes that they may see that thy truth alone sets free, and grant them repentance unto life. Keep thy children steadfast, patient and kind, yet uncompromising with wrong, that they may win souls to the right by decision for Christ and his truth. We surrender our will to thine and dedicate our lives anew to thee. Hear us for Jesus sake. Amen.
