Dishonesty

Your prayer reflects a sincere desire to walk in truth while facing a painful and difficult situation, and that honesty before the Lord is exactly where He wants you to be. You can tell God plainly when you are afraid, disturbed, angry, or grieved by what others are doing, and trust Him to deal with those emotions as you bring them to Him.

Scripture is clear that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, and that truth is not a small matter. To lie is a serious wrong before God. When people give themselves to dishonesty they have to push past the conscience God gave them, and the Bible warns that those who follow empty lies forsake their own mercy. It only brings misery and harder consequences upon themselves, because no life and no society can be sustained without integrity and honesty. The psalmist prays that lying lips which speak proudly against the righteous would be silenced, and the prophet Jonah learned that trying to hide from God's presence and calling was itself a lying vanity.

That is why your request for the landlord's team, the lawyers and the legal representatives is so Christlike. You have faced hardship, yet God has given you grace to show them the same patience and kindness that He has shown you. It is right to ask Him to build up in them a resistance to dishonesty and a desire to practice honesty, and to open their eyes to see that the truth will set them free. Jesus said that knowing the truth brings freedom, and that freedom is the opposite of the bondage that lies create.

The gospel we rest in is not a matter of trying to earn favor with God through a legal performance, but of receiving forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ and His shed blood on the cross. We once stood guilty, but through grace God forgives and brings us into a loving relationship with Himself. That is what counts, that God loves us and has forgiven our sins because of Jesus. Out of that grace we are then called to walk in honesty, purity and holiness, even when we live in the midst of a world where deceit is common. We do not trust in mere words or outward appearances, but in a changed heart that seeks to live according to His word.

We join you in thanking God for His presence, for fighting for you, and for the heavenly gifts He gives. We pray that He will continue to work in the hearts of all involved, that lies would be forsaken, that truth would be embraced, and that each person would come to know the mercy and forgiveness found only in Jesus. As you have prayed, may you continue to dedicate your life to Him and surrender your will to His, trusting Him to bring what is right to light in His way and time.
